System :: Monitoring
About: akk
da is a simple network monitoring system designed for small and
medium size computer networks. Its purpose is to quick detect system or
network faults, and to display information about detected problems for the
administrator. It is designed as a pro-active network monitor. It does not
wait for information from any agents, systems, etc. It collects
information itself every minute (you can decrease this period to as little
as 1 second if needed). Almost all services of the monitored hosts are
discovered automatically.
Changes: This release adds some new functions and fixes a few bugs.

System :: Networking :: Monitoring
About: arpalert uses ARP address monitoring to help prevent unauthorized
connections on the local network. If an illegal connection is detected, a
program or script is launched, which could be used to send an alert
message, for example.
Changes: A minor OpenBSD bugfix. Very minor code optimization. This
release checks the string representation of MAC address memory size,
allocates static memory for many buffers, and has OpenBSD Makefile
compatibility.

[005] - BeanKeeper 2.3.1
by Robert (http://freshmeat.net/users/demonofthesystem/)
Fri, Aug 3rd 2007 11:07
Database :: API
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: BeanKeeper (formerly Simple Persistence for Java) is a full
featured, powerful object/relational persistence and query library. It has
a unique philosophy of simpleness and ease of use: it does not require
config files, annotations, code generation, code "enhancing", or any kind
of tools to be used. It handles simple Java beans (or POJOs) and its query
service returns lists. Despite its simpleness, under the hood the library
takes care of all the necessary logic: transaction visibility, result list
paging, keys and ids, table creation/modification, class relations,
inheritance/polymorphism, case sensitiveness, and much more. It currently
supports: Oracle, HSQLDB, MySQL, and PostgreSQL.
Changes: All known bugs were fixed. Primitive type handling was enhanced,
so container types (Set, List, and Map) can now contain boxed primitive
types too. This also means that JDK5 generics are now handled correctly.
List member attribute implementation was corrected, so it preserves
ordering and can contain duplicate objects. The library was relicensed to
the LGPL v3.

[006] - Blitz templates for PHP 0.4.25
by Alexey Rybak (http://freshmeat.net/users/alexeyrybak/)
Fri, Aug 3rd 2007 13:58
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
About: Blitz templates is a fast PHP template engine written in C and
compiled as a PHP extension. It started as a php_templates replacement,
but developed into much more. It is based on extensible template
controllers (custom view classes in PHP) and weakly-active templates
(simple logic in HTML). Benchmarks show that it is one of the fastest
template engines for PHP, even though it's not trivial and makes Web
application closer to a smart MVC-like architecture model with maximal
separation of HTML from your code. It was designed for big high-load
Internet projects with a lot of complex presentation logic.
Changes: Predefined loop variables were added: $_total, $_num, $_even,
$_odd, $_first, and $_last. They can be used in any context. The variable
$_total is the total number of context iterations, $_num is the current
iteration number starting with 1, $_even and $_odd are 1 when the current
iteration is even or odd and 0 otherwise, and $_first and $_last are 1
when the current iteration is first or last and 0 otherwise. Bug#68
(nonexistant context iteration "cleans" previous data set in the root
iteration) and bug#69 (problems with date() function tests and optional
second parameter) are fixed.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
About: Camera Life is a self-maintaining photo gallery system. It allows
for powerful organization of photos by albums, keywords, and directory
structure. It supports users with different privileges and rolling back
unwanted changes to the site. Installation is simple and done online
through a wizard, without editing configuration files. It supports themes.
Changes: This version adds support for Gallery Remote API, microformats,
sitemaps, OpenSearch, and RSS feeds, and supports iPhoto photocasting.
There are now photo keywords with a del.icio.us-like keyword editor.
Checkpoints allow you to review and approve changes to the site. Your
users can now order prints online. There are also big changes under the
hood and some security enhancements.

[008] - Concurrent Hierarchical State Machine 4.3
by Paul J. Lucas (http://freshmeat.net/users/pjl/)
Fri, Aug 3rd 2007 01:20
Software Development :: Code Generators
About: CHSM is a language system for specifying concurrent, hierarchical,
finite state machines (a realization of "statecharts") to model and
control reactive systems. It uses its own statechart specification
langauge annotated with either C++ or Java code fragments in the tradition
of yacc grammars with C code fragments. The generated code is fully
object-oriented allowing multiple state machines to exist concurrently.
The run-time library is small, efficient, and thread-safe. It has been
used successfully in production environments such as CERN for controlling
high-energy physics experiment equipment.
Changes: The "dominance" rule has been extended from parent/child
transitions to sibling transitions. This allows "if-else" transitions to
be done more efficiently.

[013] - Daikon 4.3.1
by Jeff Perkins (http://freshmeat.net/users/jhpnez/)
Fri, Aug 3rd 2007 05:27
Documentation
Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
About: Daikon is an implementation of dynamic detection of likely
invariants. An invariant is a property (such as "x=2*y+5" or
"this.next.prev = this" or "myarray is sorted by <") that holds at a
certain point or points in a program. Invariants are often seen in assert
statements, documentation, and formal specifications. Invariants can be
useful in program understanding and a host of other applications. Daikon
runs a program, observes the values that the program computes, and then
reports properties that were true over the observed executions. It can
detect properties in Java, C, C++, Perl, and IOA programs, in spreadsheet
files, and in other data sources.
Changes: Bugfixes and minor enhancements were made to Kvasir, DynComp

[016] - ExactImage 0.4.0
by René Rebe (http://freshmeat.net/users/ReneRebe/)
Fri, Aug 3rd 2007 10:54
Multimedia :: Graphics
About: ExactImage is a fast C++ image processing library. Unlike
ImageMagick, it allows operation in several color spaces and bit depths
natively, resulting in much lower memory and computational requirements.
Some optimized algorithms operate in 1/20 of the time ImageMagick
requires, and displaying large images can be as fast as 1/10 of the time
the "display" program takes.
Changes: Image segmentation and fuzzy image contour pattern matching were
added. Support for rendering arbitrary vector pathes and text was added
through Anti-Grain-Geometry integration. The X- and Y-axis flip
optimizations were implemented for 16-bit channels, as well as functions
to change contrast, brightness, gamma, hue, saturation, and lightness, and
invert images. The convolution matrix was exported to the CLI econvert.

[020] - Gujin 2.1
by Etienne (http://freshmeat.net/users/etiennelorrain/)
Fri, Aug 3rd 2007 05:02
System :: Boot :: Init
About: Gujin is a PC boot loader which can analyze your filesystems. It
finds the Linux kernel images available, as well as other bootable
partitions (for *BSD, MS-DOS, Windows, etc.), and displays a graphical
menu for selecting which system to boot. Because it understands the
structure of Linux kernel images, Gujin does not need LILO and can even
load ELF kernels. There is no need to execute anything after making a new
kernel: just copy the kernel image file into the "/boot" directory. Gujin
is written almost entirely in C with GCC, and it fully executes in real
mode to be as compatible as possible.
Changes: The 16-bit entry point of bzImage Linux files is now used by
default (zImage is not supported). This is controlled by the "force
bzImage protocol" tickbox or the "/p" parameter of tiny.exe. 64-bit ELF
files can be loaded if the entry point is a 32-bit one (i.e. the
runadr=0x200000 parameter is used for the gzipped ELF64 file). A longer
timeout (up to 8 seconds) is used to read a CDROM sector so that ultra
speed DVD-RAM drives can be booted. The name of the filesystem is used in
the "root=LABEL=" Linux parameter. More bugfixes were made.

About: The Mobile Web Proxy is a (CGI) tool to make more Web pages
available from some mobile devices (cell phone Web browsers, etc.). It

the portion of the Web available from devices that otherwise display
messages like "413: Page cannot be displayed."

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: This package can be used to emulate class namespaces under PHP 5.
It parses PHP code to extract namespace definition statements. The code is
rewritten to emulate the namespace support in a way similar to the Java
language supports namespaces. This package implements new commands named
package and import. The package command defines the package to which a
class belongs. The import command indicates that the package should be
imported for use in the PHP script on which the import command is used.
Changes: This release supports namespaces in class definitions (with
inheritance and interface implementation), interface definitions (with
inheritance), static class variables and functions, class constants, the
instanceof operator, and type hinting. Errors trapped in rewritten files
are mapped to the right file and line number.

About: Pustefix is a Web application framework that features an

system. The frontend can be built with the help of XSLT templates and can
include parts containing HTML or XML code that is transformed, creating

handler classes, which can be aggregated into complete pages. These
handlers get their input in the form of real Java objects that are already
assembled and checked against user defined rules by the framework.
Changes: IWrappers can now be created automatically using annotated Java

[056] - rsyslog 1.18.0 (Development)
by Rainer Gerhards (http://freshmeat.net/users/rgerhards/)
Fri, Aug 3rd 2007 13:55
System :: Logging
About: Rsyslog is an enhanced multi-threaded syslogd. Among other
features, it offers support for reliable syslog over TCP and RFC 3195,
writing to MySQL databases, fully configurable output formats (including
great timestamps), the ability to filter on any part of the syslog
message, and on-the-wire message compression. It is designed as a drop-in
replacement for stock syslogd and thus is able to work with the same
configuration file syntax. Of course, some enhanced features require
changing the configuration file, but in general, this should be fairly
easy.
Changes: Backup log destinations can be configured. For example, rsyslog
can be instructed to forward messages to a set of secondary log hosts or
database servers if the primary fails. When the primary is back online,
messages are automatically been sent to it again. Backup actions do not
necessarily need to be the same as the primary one. So one could also
configure forwarding messages and writing them to a log file if the
receiver cannot be reached. This is a recommended update for all users.
