[001] - ASCEND 0.9.5.112
by John Pye (http://freshmeat.net/users/jdpipe/)
Sun, Aug 5th 2007 08:05
Scientific/Engineering
About: ASCEND is an interactive environment for modeling, debugging, and
solving large systems of nonlinear algebraic or differential equations.
Oriented towards chemical engineering applications, it includes a large
Open Source thermodynamic properties database. The interactive design
allows users to inspect and solve very difficult nonlinear systems. It
includes plotting abilities and is scriptable using both Python and

[002] - Bitswash 0.0.4
by Bitswash (http://freshmeat.net/users/errno0/)
Sun, Aug 5th 2007 05:24
Communications :: File Sharing
About: Bitswash is a cross platform Bittorrent client built on wxWidgets
and libtorrent. It supports multiple torrent downloading, automatic queue
management, protocol encryption, peer exchange, upnp, natpmp, lsd, and IP
and file filtering.
Changes: This release fixes couple of bugs in the queue manager. The
logger window was moved to the bottom panel to improve torrent list
visibility. Per torrent settings are working. AUI changes were made, so
users are required to remove the auiperspective entry under
~/.bitswash/bitswash.conf to restore AUI state. libtorrent revision 1418
is bundled with this release.

[003] - Cheese Tracker 0.9.14.1
by J Phelps (http://freshmeat.net/users/jphelps/)
Sun, Aug 5th 2007 04:55
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Sound Synthesis
About: Cheese Tracker is a program to create module music. It aims to have
an interface and feature set similar to that of Impulse Tracker. It works
on Unix systems and on Windows (using cygwin), but all the interface/audio
code is fully modular and abstracted in individual classes, which should
make the porting of this program to other platforms very easy.
Changes: This release adds full support for stereo samples to the
next-most-recent release. Additionally, better-than-stereo samples can be
loaded and saved correctly (in CheeseTracker (*.ct) modules only),
although they are still played back in stereo. There have been 3 prior
releases of CheeseTracker that have gone unannounced on Freshmeat. These
releases add better keyboard support, and the ability to load 24-bit and
greater WAV files (which are however degraded to 16 bits in the process).

[004] - cryptmount 2.1
by rwpenney (http://freshmeat.net/users/rwpenney/)
Sun, Aug 5th 2007 07:58
Security :: Cryptography
System :: Filesystems
About: cryptmount assists system administrators in setting up encrypted
filesystems based on the device mapper (dm-crypt) of GNU/Linux systems
using a 2.6-series kernel. After initial setup, it allows any user to
mount or unmount filesystems on demand, solely by providing the decryption
password, with any system devices needed to access the filing system being
configured automatically. A wide variety of encryption schemes (provided
by the kernel and OpenSSL library) can be used to protect both the filing
system and the access key. The protected filing systems can reside in
either ordinary files or disk partitions. The package also supports
encrypted swap partitions, and automatic configuration on system boot-up.
Changes: A new interactive tool to assist with initial setup of encrypted
filesystems, support for reading/writing OpenSSL key files via libgcrypt,
facilities for translating between key files stored in different formats,
and support for improved dismantling of loopback filesystems during system
shutdown.

Software Development :: Build Tools
System
About: Logapp is a wrapper utility that helps supervise the execution of
applications that produce heavy console output (e.g. make, CVS, and
Subversion). It does this by logging, trimming, and coloring each line of
the output before displaying it. It can be called instead of the
executable that should be monitored; it then starts the application and
logs all of its console output to a file. The output shown in the terminal
is preprocessed, e.g. to limit the length of printed lines and to show the
stderr output in a different color. It is also possible to automatically
highlight lines that match a certain regular expression. The output is
therefore reduced to the necessary amount, and all important lines are
easy to identify.
Changes: Handling of multiple Logapp instances trying to access the same
logfile has been added and the parameter parsing has been improved.
Additionally, usage of threads and PTYs can now be disabled.

[023] - MeTA1 1.0.PreAlpha19.0
by Claus Assmann (http://freshmeat.net/users/casmx/)
Sun, Aug 5th 2007 13:33
About: MeTA1 is a modularized message transfer agent (MTA) consisting of
five (or more) persistent processes, four of which are multi-threaded. A
queue manager controls SMTP servers and SMTP clients to receive and send
email messages, an address resolver provides lookups in various maps
(including DNS) for mail routing, and a main control program starts the
other processes and watches over their execution. The queue manager
organizes the flow of messages through the system and provides measures to
avoid overloading the local or remote systems by implementing a central
control instance. It is simple to configure using a C-like syntax and is
secure and efficient.
Changes: Support for Sun's SASL library has been added. A length check in
smtpc when determining whether the client is talking to a server with the
same host name has been fixed. The handling of DESTDIR in sm.setup.sh
should be correct now. A new option for qmgr: double_bounce_address has
been added.

definitions for tables, views, and stored procedures from the database.
Changes: The way setter and getter methods for rows are defined has been
rewritten. A generic setter and getter method has been added for usage in
custom row methods. The generated SQL now uses the escape string syntax to
get rid of PostgreSQL warnings when text contains backslashes. Momomoto now

by Jan Engelhardt (http://freshmeat.net/users/jengelh/)
Sun, Aug 5th 2007 05:59
Security
System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux
About: The MultiAdmin security framework kernel module provides a means to
have multiple "root" users with unique UIDs. This bypasses collation order
problems with NSCD, allows you to have files with unique owners, and
allows you to track the quota usage for every "real" user. It also
implements a "sub-admin", a partially restricted root user who has full
read-only access to most subsystems, but write rights only to a limited
subset, for example writing to files or killing processes only of certain
users.
Changes: The NetAdmin user class has been removed since it can be handled
in userspace. The code has been updated to work with Linux 2.6.22.

Communications :: Chat
Communications :: Chat :: AOL Instant Messenger
Security :: Cryptography
About: Off-the-Record (OTR) Messaging is a gaim plugin which allows you to
have private conversations over the instant messaging system of your

instant messages from reading them; authentication, which ensures that the
correspondent is who you think it is; and perfect forward secrecy, which
ensures that no previous conversation is compromised if you lose control
of your private keys.
Changes: Support for pidgin 2.x, new translations for English, Dutch,
Spanish, French, and Slovak, a new option to not log OTR conversations,
transparent fragmentation of large messages, and replacement of the "view

[030] - Password Manager Daemon 0.11
by Ben Kibbey (http://freshmeat.net/users/bjk/)
Sun, Aug 5th 2007 04:26
Information Management
Security
Security :: Cryptography
About: Password Manager Daemon serves clients data via a local socket. The
data is stored in an encrypted XML file, and the client must provide the
key to modify it. There is also a library available to make patching
applications to use the daemon easier.
Changes: The GETCONFIG command was added to show the value of a
configuration parameter. The STORE command can now create empty elements
and keep the child node when updating the content of an existing element.
Each element in a specified element path can be prefixed with the literal
character rather than only the first element. The LIST command now
supports the "target" attribute. The data file can now be compressed.

(Internationalized Domain Names) is included. Through its modular design,
various new functions (like RSS, personal file storage, a bookmark
manager, etc.) are easily included.
Changes: The last build introduced two minor bugs. In the first bug,
fetching new mail messages could lead to their status flag not being set
correctly. Additionally, updating the mail list in an IMAP folder could
lead to a JavaScript error. Both bugs have been fixed with this release.

Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization
About: SciDAVis is an interactive application aimed at data analysis and
publication-quality plotting. It combines a shallow learning curve and an
intuitive, easy-to-use graphical user interface with powerful features
such as scriptability and extensibility. It is similar in its field of
application to proprietary Windows applications like Origin and SigmaPlot,
as well as free applications like QtiPlot, Labplot, and Gnuplot. What sets
SciDAVis apart from the above is its emphasis on providing a friendly and
open environment (in the software as well as the project) for new and
experienced users alike, and particularly in providing good documentation
on all levels.
Changes: Handling of custom decimal separators was improved. Many
improvements and additions were made to Python scripting. The user
interface was improved with restructured menus and tool bars and several
restructured dialogs. The script window was removed, since notes offer the
same capabilities. Project loading/saving was made more stable. ASCII
import and export was made easier. Appending of projects and Origin graphs
was improved. Lots of small improvements and bugfixes were made. Exporting
to EPS and PDF can be done without large white borders.

About: SQLgrey is a Postfix greylisting policy service with an SQL
database as storage backend. Its goal is to reduce the amount of spam
reaching user mailboxes. It includes refined auto-whitelisting, and stores
whitelists and connection attempts in a database for easy inspection.
Changes: Many new features have been added. SQLgrey can now reopen its
database connection on request (some databases need this for better
performance). The database cleanup is now more efficient when multiple
SQLgrey instances are used to distribute the load. The greylisting can now
be activated based on user-controlled rules. Clustered database
environments are supported. Finally, a fix for a crash on syslog death is
included.

[044] - SRESI 0.19.10 (Development)
by Priscus (http://freshmeat.net/users/priscus/)
Sun, Aug 5th 2007 05:42
Information Management :: Metadata/Semantic Models
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Browsers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
About: SRESI is a smart bookmark manager. It currently sports both a
command-line and a PHP interface. It works with both the standard
hierarchical trees and the new and fashionable tagged bookmarks. It was
developed as a way to interface both representation systems. SRESI can use
Del.icio.us, Mozilla, Opera, and XBEL bookmarks, and handles a few more
exports besides. Directories and tags are used equivalently, and the final
hierarchies are inferred from actual tag use.
Changes: The tagged data module now requires a "hash" function instead of
a "compare" one. The Tagging functions and functors are now perfectly
generic from the set up to the portal. Bookmarks.ml is now built those
generic functors. The massive refactoring left the code in a messy state.
The APIs are currently quite raw and will change soon.
