System :: Monitoring

About: akkda is a simple network monitoring system designed for small and
medium size computer networks. Its purpose is to quick detect system or
network faults, and to display information about detected problems for the
administrator. It is designed as a pro-active network monitor. It does not
wait for information from any agents, systems, etc. It collects
information itself every minute (you can decrease this period to as little
as 1 second if needed). Almost all services of the monitored hosts are
discovered automatically.

Changes: This release fixes a major bug with ignoring discover excludes by
the windows_service probe.

[004] - Apache SpamAssassin 3.2.3 (Stable)
  by Justin Mason (http://freshmeat.net/users/jmason/)
  Thu, Aug 9th 2007 13:48

Communications :: Email :: Filters
Software Development :: Libraries :: Perl Modules

About: Apache SpamAssassin is an extensible email filter that is used to
identify spam. Once identified, the mail can then be optionally tagged as
spam for later filtering. It provides a command line tool to perform
filtering, a client-server system to filter large volumes of mail, and
Mail::SpamAssassin, a set of Perl modules allowing Apache SpamAssassin to
be used in a wide variety of email systems.

Changes: The new setuid code has been fixed to work with Perl 5.6.1 and to
support DCC and Pyzor in all releases of Perl. The default
'user_scores_ldap_username' is now the null string, allowing anonymous
binding. A 'schema' syntax error in LDAP config support has been fixed,
along with an error where zeroing an 'eval' rule's score did not stop it
from running. The new message ID format seen from Vista or Windows 2003
Server MAPI is now allowed to avoid false positives, and several issues
with RDNS_DYNAMIC have been fixed.

[029] - OpenFOAM 1.4.1
  by imipak (http://freshmeat.net/users/imipak/)
  Thu, Aug 9th 2007 11:34

Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization

About: The OpenFOAM (Open Field Operation and Manipulation) CFD toolbox
can simulate anything from complex fluid flows involving chemical
reactions, turbulence, and heat transfer, to solid dynamics,
electromagnetics, and the pricing of financial options. It uses finite
volume numerics to solve systems of partial differential equations
ascribed on any 3D unstructured mesh of polyhedral cells. The fluid flow
solvers are developed within a robust, implicit, pressure-velocity,
iterative solution framework, although alternative techniques are applied
to other continuum mechanics solvers.

Changes: The program now uses OpenMPI by default. Converters support
translation from Fluent format to OpenFOAM, and from OpenFOAM into a
generic user-specified format. New solvers have been added for
incompressible Newtonian fluids, with either turbulent or laminar flows,
and new turbulence models for compressible flows. Mesh motion solvers have
been extended to include displacement as well as velocity. A scheme was
added to remove high frequency modes with ‘staggering’ characteristics.
Parallel compilation has improved. The program shows a speedup on the
Itanium2 processor, and support for asymmetric matrices was improved.

Utilities

About: tcpscript is a tool that easily allows other people to see your
terminal session screen in a way similar to the classic Unix command,
"script". It opens a TCP port that allows anyone to connect to it using
telnet and see in real time what you see on the terminal. For example, you
can use "vim" in it as a blackboard or as a chat system.

Changes: xterm-resize commands are now sent to telnet clients. Those using
telnet in a xterm will get the proper terminal size at connection and when
the server resizes its window. 'curses' applications will start correctly
at once in this case. The server now disables the client's telnet local
echo.

[042] - UFRaw 0.12.1
  by Udi Fuchs (http://freshmeat.net/users/udifuchs/)
  Thu, Aug 9th 2007 23:15

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Graphics Conversion

About: UFRaw is a utility for converting and manipulating raw images from
digital cameras. It can be used as a stand-alone tool or as a Gimp plugin,
and images can be batch processed using the commandline interface. UFRaw
reads most existing raw formats using Dave Coffin's raw conversion utility
DCRaw, and it supports basic color management using Little CMS, allowing
the user to apply color profiles. For Nikon users, UFRaw has the advantage
that it can read the camera's tone curves. Even if you don't own a Nikon,
you can still apply a Nikon curve to your images.

Changes: This is a bug correction version. Non-integer shrink factors are
now handled. A crash which occurred when the spot selector reached an
image boundary was fixed. Some TIFF images are no longer wrongly
identified as raw files.

[044] - vlock 2.0 (Stable)
  by Frank Benkstein (http://freshmeat.net/users/toidinamai/)
  Thu, Aug 9th 2007 08:26

Desktop Environment :: Tools
Security
Terminals

About: vlock is a program to lock one or more sessions on the Linux
console. This is especially useful for Linux machines which have multiple
users with access to the console. One user may lock his or her session(s)
while still allowing other users to use the system on other virtual
consoles. If desired, the entire console may be locked and virtual console
can be switching disabled.

Changes: A major rewrite was undertaken, though the user interface is
nearly the same. A new "-n,--new" command line switch was added. This
makes vlock switch to a new virtual console before locking and thus makes
it possible to use vlock from an X session.

System :: Diagnostics
System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring

About: yacpi is yet another configuration and power interface. It shows
acpi information (battery status, etc.) from your proc filesystem in an
ncurses interface.

Changes: The program was completely rewritten with libacpi, and new
options were added for every feature (along with an option to enable every
feature). Interactive input for delay in ncurses mode was removed in favor
of just restarting yacpi. The program instantly reacts on user input in
the ncurses interface and select loop. The -m optin was removed so that
you always get all batteries without a performance deadlock, and samples
are no longer used.

About: Zile is a small, fast, and powerful Emacs clone. It is useful for
small footprint installations (e.g. on floppy disk) or quick editing
sessions.

Changes: This release makes Zile more like Emacs in various ways. Two
preferences were renamed: "skip-splash-screen" becomes
"inhibit-splash-screen", and "beep" is now "ring-bell". The modeline looks
like Emacs 22's default modeline. Boolean variables are no longer treated
specially, as they are not in Emacs. The build system has been tweaked.
