[001] - ActiveShipping 0.2
  by Jonathan Bartlett (http://freshmeat.net/users/johnnyb/)
  Fri, Aug 31st 2007 16:31

Software Development :: Libraries :: Ruby Modules

About: ActiveShipping is a unified Ruby API (quite useful on Rails) for
shipping information from multiple carriers. It calculates shipping,
handling, finds the best price from multiple sources, etc. It is primarily
focused on rate requests, but may be extended to cover other aspects of
shipping as well. Currently, it includes UPS and USPS modules, and modules
for Fedex and DHL are coming soon.

Changes: This release adds a FedEx gateway and a Con-Way gateway. It adds
a lot of documentation.

Multimedia :: Graphics

About: ALE is an image-processing program used for tasks such as
super-resolution, deblurring, noise reduction, and anti-aliasing. Its
principle of operation is synthetic capture, combining multiple inputs
representing the same scene.

Changes: This release resolves certain build failures occurring under
unthreaded configurations, removes certain debugging output, and adds
support for platforms missing certain floating point macros.

Desktop Environment :: Tools
Internet :: Log Analysis
Security

About: Alerttail monitors a given file and executes a list of actions when
a user-defined text pattern has been written to the file. For example, the
user can pop up a GTK notification window when a certain message is
written to a log file. Actions can be alerttail built in actions (GTK
notify action, geoipLocalization action, or filtering text action) or a
custom user defined shell command action. A Qt 4 GUI frontend helps with
configuration.

  Fri, Aug 31st 2007 06:09

Software Development :: Libraries
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML

About: Arabica is a C++ XML parser toolkit that has a full SAX2
implementation (the Simple API for XML), including the optional interfaces
and helper classes. It also implements the W3C DOM (Document Object Model)
Level 2.0 Core, together with XPath 1.0. It delivers UTF-8 encoded
std::strings or UCS-2 std::wstrings, but can also accommodate custom
string types and alternative encodings. It provides uniform SAX2 wrappers
for the expat parser, Xerces, libxml, and the Microsoft XML parser COM
component.

Changes: This release includes the first release of Mangle, the Arabica
XSLT engine. Still actively under development, mangle passes about 85% of
the OASIS XSLT conformance test suite and covers most common cases. There
are additional incremental improvements to the build system.

  Fri, Aug 31st 2007 02:37

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: Aranea is a hierarchical Model-View-Controller Web framework that
provides a common, simple approach to building Web application components,
reusing custom or general GUI logic, and extending the framework. The
framework enforces programming using object oriented techniques with POJOs
and provides a JSP tag library that facilitates the programming of Web GUIs
without writing HTML. In addition to being a full-fledged Web framework in
its own right, it provides a powerful and simple component system that
allows the framework to be tailored by configuring the reusable modules
and adding modules only for the missing features.

Changes: A FormWidget.restoreBaseState() issue was fixed.

  Fri, Aug 31st 2007 16:38

Multimedia :: Graphics
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics

About: Benoit is a fractal explorer that focuses on easy navigation in a
fractal image and flexible creation of new fractals. Due to its modular
design single components like iterators, renderers, and colorings can be
replaced, making it easy to experiment with individual aspects of the
creation of a fractal image. Using the Java class loading API, new
components can be created from templates and compiled and supplied at
runtime. At the moment, Benoit is in a very early preview state showing
the way it is supposed to work. It is possible to display fractals in the
complex plane created from templates.

  Fri, Aug 31st 2007 10:25

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: User Interfaces

About: php-stl is a templating implementation similar to Java's JSTL. This
is a tag-based template engine with configurable classes to handle various
tags. The templates are written in XML, which differs from the JSTL, but
provides clean output. Note that php-stl does not provide its own template
handling, but instead piggybacks on either PHPSavant (http://phpsavant.com)
or Smarty (http://smarty.php.net/) as a compiler. Note also that php-stl is
designed for PHP 5, though a PHP 4 implementation wouldn't be difficult.

Changes: This release adds HTMLTag, changes the way quoting works, and
adds boolean properties.

[043] - radmind 1.10.0
  by umeditor (http://freshmeat.net/users/umeditor/)
  Fri, Aug 31st 2007 10:17

Security
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks

About: radmind is a suite of Unix command-line tools and a server designed
to remotely administer the file systems of multiple Unix machines. At its
core, radmind operates as a tripwire. It is able to detect changes to any
managed filesystem object, e.g. files, directories, links, etc. However,
radmind goes further than just integrity checking: once a change is
detected, radmind can optionally reverse the change. Each managed machine
may have its own loadset composed of multiple, layered overloads. This
allows, for example, the operating system to be described separately from
applications. Loadsets are stored on a remote server. By updating a
loadset on the server, changes can be pushed to managed machines.

Changes: This release adds a -C option to lapply that will create missing
intermediate directories.

[044] - Rats! 1.13.0
  by Robert Grimm (http://freshmeat.net/users/rgrimmm/)
  Fri, Aug 31st 2007 13:39

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers

About: Rats! is a parser generator for C-like languages (though currently
it only generates parsers in Java). It has been designed so that grammars
are concise and easily extensible. To this end, grammars are organized
into modules that can be easily changed by adding, removing, or modifying
alternatives in individual productions and composed with each other
through module parameters. Furthermore, it relies on ordered choices to
avoid ambiguities, supports syntactic predicates for unlimited lookahead,
and integrates lexing with parsing. Finally, it has extensive support for
automatically generating abstract syntax trees, thus greatly reducing the
need for explicit semantic actions.

Changes: This release introduces automatic variant typing for ASTs and
improved ASTs for Java and C. The larger XTC framework now includes
Typical, a domain-specific language for writing type checker. It also
contains "a compiler contributed to XTC" a.k.a. Jeannie, which combines
Java and C into a single language.

[046] - rsyslog 1.19.3 (Development)
  by Michael Meckelein (http://freshmeat.net/users/mimeck/)
  Fri, Aug 31st 2007 06:09

System :: Logging

About: Rsyslog is an enhanced multi-threaded syslogd. Among other
features, it offers support for reliable syslog over TCP and RFC 3195,
writing to MySQL databases, fully configurable output formats (including
great timestamps), the ability to filter on any part of the syslog
message, and on-the-wire message compression. It is designed as a drop-in
replacement for stock syslogd and thus is able to work with the same
configuration file syntax. Of course, some enhanced features require
changing the configuration file, but in general, this should be fairly
easy.

Changes: This is a cleanup and bugfix release. It fixes a critical bug in
dynamic file generation and a small memory leak. The negative selector for
the program name filter (Blocks in rsyslog.conf) works as expected now. The
rsyslog.conf documentation has been enhanced. This is a highly-recommended
update for all users.

Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence
Scientific/Engineering :: Bioinformatics

About: SHOGUN is a machine learning toolbox whose focus is on large scale
kernel methods and especially on Support Vector Machines (SVM). It
provides a generic SVM object interfacing to several different SVM
implementations, all making use of the same underlying, efficient kernel
implementations. Apart from SVMs and regression, SHOGUN also features a
number of linear methods like Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA), Linear
Programming Machine (LPM), (Kernel) Perceptrons, and algorithms to train
hidden Markov models. SHOGUN can be used from within C++, Matlab, R,
Octave, and Python.

Changes: This release contains many minor fixes, among them fixes for
SVMLin, the python and R examples, and cplex 10 compatibility fixes. It
also includes new methods, such as liblinear and the local alignment
kernel.
