[001] - 'Q' DVD-Author 1.0.0 RC2
  by 'Q' DVD-Author (http://freshmeat.net/users/QDVDAuthor/)
  Sun, Oct 7th 2007 08:01

Desktop Environment :: K Desktop Environment (KDE)
Multimedia :: Video
Multimedia :: Video :: Conversion

About: 'Q' DVD-Author is a GUI frontent for dvdauthor and related tools.
The goal is to provide an easy-to-use, yet powerful and complete interface
to generate DVD menus, slideshows, and videos to burn on a DVD under Linux.

Changes: This release fixes crashes on DualCore machines, adds the ability
to add multiple audio tracks to a DVDMenu, and automatically marks audio
files for transcoding if the format is not DVD compliant.

[002] - AutoGen 5.9.3
  by Bruce Korb (http://freshmeat.net/users/bkorb/)
  Sun, Oct 7th 2007 17:10

Other/Nonlisted Topic
Software Development
Software Development :: Build Tools

About: AutoGen is a tool designed for generating program files that
contain repetitive text with varied substitutions. Its goal is to simplify
the maintenance of programs that contain large amounts of repetitious text.
This is especially valuable if there are several blocks of such text that
must be kept synchronized. Output is specified with a Scheme-enhanced
output template. Input, if required by your template, may come from
AutoGen definitions, CGI data, or XML files.

Changes: Minor tweaks. Mostly the vehicle for AutoOpts.

  by Bruce Korb (http://freshmeat.net/users/bkorb/)
  Sun, Oct 7th 2007 17:14

Software Development
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Libraries

About: AutoOpts is an integrated part of AutoGen. Based on a very simple
option description file, it will process configuration files, environment
variables, command line options, text strings passed by client programs,
and will make the results easily accessible to the client program. It will
also produce a man page and the info-doc invoking section automatically.

Changes: libopts requires strsignal, so the config test has been moved. A
"--save'' option bug has been fixed. Programs may now choose to have
config files kept in cannonical form ("C" locale), even if long option
names are translated. The option definition file must contain "no-xlate =
opt-cfg;'' or "no-xlate = opt;''.

[004] - butt 0.1.2
  by bipak (http://freshmeat.net/users/bipak/)
  Sun, Oct 7th 2007 09:14

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Capture/Recording

About: butt (broadcast using this tool) is a Linux tool that grabs audio
data from your sound card (line-in, CD, wave, etc.), encodes the PCM data
into MP3, and sends it to a streaming server (only Shoutcast is currently
supported).

Changes: A GUI for configuring butt was added. Comments behind
configuration entries are not allowed anymore. The network init part was
removed since it was nonsense. Mono playblack was fixed. Recording
problems were fixed. ICY entries can now be empty without causing butt to
crash. butt now shows the real port in its "connecting to..." information
line and the "pseudeo" port in parentheses. A bug which causes PCM data
loss in some cases was fixed.

[005] - COllaborative DEvelopment SHell 0.8.2
  by Trump Coup (http://freshmeat.net/users/bourilkov/)
  Sun, Oct 7th 2007 18:01

About: The CODESH (COllaborative DEvelopment SHell) project provides an
automatic persistent logbook for sessions of personal command line work
by recording what and how is being done, for private use/reuse and for
sharing selected parts with collaborators. It is an intelligent shell
that automatically logs a user's command line (shell) session: commands,
scripts executed, output produced, changes to environment variables, alias
creation, and other information needed to recreate the session later.
Sessions are uniquely tagged and stored in local or distributed backend
repositories (flat file - ASCII - or CVS based) and can be extracted and
reproduced at any time by the user who created the session or by
collaborators located anywhere in the world.

Changes: The case when bash is the underlying shell and the user has no
bashrc file in the home directory is handled properly, thus avoiding
warning messages. The test suite is made more robust by eliminating a
dependency on the user setting of the PATH environment variable for tests
05 and 06.

[006] - CrossFTP Server 1.07
  by Tony Zhou (http://freshmeat.net/users/morningboat/)
  Sun, Oct 7th 2007 23:23

Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)

About: CrossFTP Server is a professional FTP server for multiple
platforms. It offers a high-performance, easily configurable, and, most of
all, secure-enabled FTP server. Its main advantage is that it is very easy
to get started by novice users, and meets advanced users' requirements as
well. It supports user virtual directories, write permissions, idle
time-out, and upload/download bandwidth limitations. You can monitor all
user activities. Both upload and download files are resumable. A database
and LDAP can be used to store user data. "MODE Z" is supported for faster
transfers.

Changes: This version starts to support the Bonjour (ZeroConf) service
discovery protocol, as well as international character-encoding for
directory lists. A user database bug was fixed to avoid Oracle database's
column name conflict.

[012] - GSTorrent 0009
  by Kumosan (http://freshmeat.net/users/kumosan/)
  Sun, Oct 7th 2007 11:37

Communications :: File Sharing

About: GSTorrent is a Bittorrent client/server system. A daemon program
handles all the file transfers as a Bittorrent client. The GSTorrent
daemon also acts as a server for an external GUI client. The objective is
to have a relatively small Bittorrent client, which runs on a small
computer without a graphical interface and to control this server from a
different machine. An example of this type of architecture is the mldonkey
client/server system for the edonkey protocol.

Changes: The GSTorrent server can now connect to private trackers, which
use the passkey authorization. The default server port has been changed.

[016] - Java Classic RPG 2007-10-06
  by skrionius (http://freshmeat.net/users/skrionius/)
  Sun, Oct 7th 2007 17:11

Games/Entertainment
Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing

About: Java Classic RPG is an RPG framework, engine, and game that uses
OpenGL, a challenging AI, huge territories, and classic pen-and-paper
turn-based combat. It is in the tradition of games like Wizardry 7 and

[017] - justniffer 0.2
  by Oreste Notelli (http://freshmeat.net/users/onotelli/)
  Sun, Oct 7th 2007 18:01

System :: Diagnostics
System :: Logging
System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: justniffer is a TCP packet sniffer. It captures TCP packets,
reassembles and reorders them, performs IP packet defragmentation and
displays the TCP flow in the standard output. It is useful for logging
network traffic in a "standard" (Web server like) or in a customized way.
It can log timings (e.g. response time), which is useful for tracking
network service performance. The main differences with other sniffers is
that it captures TCP/IP traffic and handles all TCP/IP issues (reordering,
retransmissions, defragmentation), and that it reports timing information.

Changes: No more checksum (it gives problems when sniffing some
interfaces). This release trusts kernel checks. More keywords. Simple
encoding for unprintable characters.

[018] - Kirocker Music Display 4.0 Beta 2
  by Sebien (http://freshmeat.net/users/Sebien/)
  Sun, Oct 7th 2007 17:59

Desktop Environment :: K Desktop Environment (KDE)
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio

About: Kirocker is a Kicker applet that displays what you listen to in
Amarok. With this panel applet, you always know what you are listening to,
and can watch its cover and star rating: it is always visible. It allows
you to rate your music with one click: you can quickly change the number
of stars of your music from anywhere on your desktop. Finally, it let you
remotely control Amarok with one click from anywhere on your desktop: play
next or previous track, pause, play, and seek to another position in the
current track.

Changes: This version adds lyrics display in full-screen mode. Usability,
as always, has been the key while designing this feature: lyrics
automatically scroll to follow the song. You can manually scroll if it is
not very well synced, and the automatic scrolling will continue where you
wanted. The second major feature is enhanced theming: themes can contain
shadowed texts and customizable frames (27 are provided). This allows more
variety in themes, and more importantly, more readability of texts over
complex background images. Themes have been updated to take advantage of
the new possibilities.

  Sun, Oct 7th 2007 09:17

Security
System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: Nuface is a Web-based administration tool that generates Edenwall,
NuFW, or simple Netfilter firewall rules. It features a high level
abstraction on the security policy set by the administrator, and works
internally on an XML data scheme. Its philosophy is to let you agglomerate
subjects, resources, or protocols into meta-objects, and use those meta
objects to generate ACLs, which are then interpreted as netfilter rules by
Nupyf, the internal XML parser. This tool may easily be extended to support
firewall implementations other than Netfilter.

Changes: A bug that would stop rules generation when authentication
subjects with no mention of IPv4 networks were used has been fixed. A bug
when a remote IPSEC router is not in a network in the description has been
fixed. A DTD describing desc.xml v1.3 has been added.

[030] - pcal and lcal 2.1.0 (lcal)
  by Bill Marr (http://freshmeat.net/users/marr99/)
  Sun, Oct 7th 2007 17:09

About: Pcal prints nice-looking PostScript (or HTML) calendars (in monthly
or yearly formats) and has a wide variety of useful options. Its real power
is its ability to create personalized calendars by marking 'events' (e.g.
holidays, birthdays, paydays, etc.) and by adding EPS images (photos,
icons, etc.). Lcal generates full-year, colorized lunar calendars in a
one-page or two-page format.

Changes: This version enhances the colorization options available with the
'-s' ('shading') command line switch, and eliminates the now-unneeded '-i'
('invert colors') option.

[034] - SffTools 3.1.1 (SffToBmp)
  by peter (http://freshmeat.net/users/pschaefer/)
  Sun, Oct 7th 2007 17:07

Communications :: Fax

About: SffTools consists of SffToBmp, a little utility that converts
Structured Fax Files to BMP, PBM, JPEG, or single- and multipage TIFF
format, and SffView, a GUI viewer for those files. The tools should be
especially useful to people who are faxing with ISDN cards because the
CAPI interface of these cards generates such files. CAPI support for Linux
is available for the active card AVM B1 and the passive card AVM Fritz!.

[036] - SRESI 0.19.14 (Development)

  Sun, Oct 7th 2007 08:13

Information Management :: Metadata/Semantic Models
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Browsers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search

About: SRESI is a smart bookmark manager. It currently sports both a
command-line and a PHP interface. It works with both the standard
hierarchical trees and the new and fashionable tagged bookmarks. It was
developed as a way to interface both representation systems. SRESI can use
Del.icio.us, Mozilla, Opera, and XBEL bookmarks, and handles a few more
exports besides. Directories and tags are used equivalently, and the final
hierarchies are inferred from actual tag use.

Changes: A pair of old bugs have been either fixed or masked. All Tag.ml
functor-built types are now abstract. The unstable branch is currently not
fit for use.

[037] - tntdb 0.9.4
  by Tommi Mäkitalo (http://freshmeat.net/users/tmaek/)
  Sun, Oct 7th 2007 09:13

Database :: API
Software Development :: Libraries

About: Tntdb is a c++-class-library for database access. It implements a
database-independent layer, which loads the actual driver dynamically when
a connection is made. The classes use automatic resource management with
reference counts. Resources are freed when the classes go out of scope.
Error handling is done with exceptions (derived from std::exception).
There are STL-like iterators for result sets and rows, and also the cursor
is an STL-like iterator. It is written in standard C++ with Linux. Drivers
for PostgreSQL, sqlite3, MySQL, and Oracle are available.

Changes: A driver for oracle is included, which is not built by default,
but needs to be activated with the --with-oracle configure switch. Support
for decimal numbers was added. The driver interface was optimized, which
breaks the interface compatibility. The Doxygen documentation was updated.

Masechta that requires you to choose the correct location for a displayed
Amud of Gemarah. Gemarah charts helps you keep track of how many times

Text Processing :: General

About: Trowser is a browser for large line-oriented text files (such as
debug traces). It's meant as an alternative to "less". Compared to less,
trowser adds color highlighting, a persistent search history, graphical
bookmarking, separate search result windows, and flexible skipping of
input from pipes to STDIN. Trowser has a graphical interface, but is
designed to allow browsing via the keyboard at least to the same extent as
less. Key bindings and the cursor positioning concept are derived from vim.
