Software Development
Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: Perl Modules

About: AnyEvent provides an identical interface to multiple event loops.
This allows module authors to utilize an event loop without forcing module
users to use the same event loop (as only a single event loop can coexist
peacefully at any one time). The interface itself is vaguely similar but
not identical to the Event module. On the first call of any method, the
module tries to detect the currently loaded event loop by probing for an
already-loaded event loop, such as Glib or Event. The first one found is
used. If none is found, the module tries to load an event module.

Changes: The Glib/GTK+ support is now functional again. A Perl bug that
caused spurious problems when loading the module at the wrong time has
been worked around.

Documentation
Education
Scientific/Engineering

About: DB Visual Architect (DBVA) is a powerful tool that provides
support for Object Relational Mapping (ORM) and Entity Relationship
Diagrams (ERD), which assist with realizing UML designs as relational
database implementations. By drawing a class diagram for the system, you
can generate the required database tables and persistent source code for
database manipulation. It can also be used with existing software.

Changes: Improvements were made to database modeling, code engineering,
modeling, interoperability, and team collaboration. This release supports
modeling, reverse and forward engineering of stored procedure and database
triggers, bookmarking diagrams and shapes, batch processing through running
command-line operations, mass selection of shapes through Handi-Selection,
and much more. Other useful features include exporting revisions from
Teamwork server/SVN/CVS, managing pre-written documentation templates, and
jumping to a diagram via the Jump To dialog box.

  by EDT (http://freshmeat.net/users/bigbird/)
  Sun, Oct 14th 2007 23:49

Software Development :: Libraries

About: edtFTPj is an FTP client library that allows any Java application
to have full embedded FTP functionality. It includes a straightforward but
comprehensive API with functions such as put (), get(), chdir(), dir() and
pwd(). Active and passive modes are supported.

Changes: In dirDetails(), English is now always tried first for date
parsing locale, followed by the default locale. Other locales can also be
specified. Also, date parsing exceptions are no longer propagated; the
relevant field is now set to null. FTPException from size() is now ignored
if resume is being tried for an upload (which occurs if the file does not
exist). The parsing code for Connect:Enterprise UNIX was fixed. Accessors
were added for message fragment collections used in parsing server

Communications
Information Management
Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: JSON::XS implements JSON for Perl. Unlike other modules, its
primary goal is to encode to syntactically correct JSON and flag invalid
JSON while decoding. It ensures round-trip integrity of data types while
being intuitive to use. Currently being the fastest of the JSON encoders
available for Perl, it supports a variety of format options, such as
single-line, ASCII-only, or pretty-printed, and can be tuned for speed or
memory usage. It comes with a wealth of documentation describing usage and
implementation details.

Changes: This release adds a new decode_prefix method that allows some
forms of incremental processing. Speed has been further improved compared
to the 1.0 release. Booleans can now be distinguished after decoding and
forced in the encoded output. A new Latin1 encoding option has been added.
Tied hashes are now supported. The documentation has been vastly improved.
Large integers are decoded without loss of precision, and myriad minor
issues and bugs have been fixed.

production, and can produce monolithic or paginated HTML and DocBook
natively. Includes are supported. The file format is CVS friendly and
easily diffable. It is suitable for software manuals and documentation,
technical publishing, scientific papers, books, legal documents, and
presentation slides.

[036] - SRESI 0.19.14.1

  Sun, Oct 14th 2007 03:41

Information Management :: Metadata/Semantic Models
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Browsers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search

About: SRESI is a smart bookmark manager. It currently sports both a
command-line and a PHP interface. It works with both the standard
hierarchical trees and the new and fashionable tagged bookmarks. It was
developed as a way to interface both representation systems. SRESI can use
Del.icio.us, Mozilla, Opera, and XBEL bookmarks, and handles a few more
exports besides. Directories and tags are used equivalently, and the final
hierarchies are inferred from actual tag use.

Changes: This is a new stable branch, replacing the 0.19.8.x series. It
features all the development enhancements to date, and all known bugs have
been fixed. Hints have been split between hierarchical hints and tag
shortcuts. Hierarchical hints help build trees, while shortcuts mask
implied tags from the display.

Communications
Internet
Internet :: Proxy Servers

About: Tor is a network of virtual tunnels that allows people and groups
to improve their privacy and security on the Internet. It also enables
software developers to create new communication tools with built-in
privacy features. It provides the foundation for a range of applications
that allow organizations and individuals to share information over
public networks without compromising their privacy. Individuals can use
it to keep remote Websites from tracking them and their family members.
They can also use it to connect to resources such as news sites or
instant messaging services that are blocked by their local Internet
service providers (ISPs).

Changes: This development snapshot fixes a crash bug that's been around
since February 2007. Bridge authorities may now store a list of bridge
descriptors they've seen. v3 directory voting is closer to working.
Caching of v3 directory consensus documents on directory mirrors was
started. A variety of smaller issues were fixed, including some minor
memory leaks.
