  by Joe Croft (http://freshmeat.net/users/croftj/)
  Wed, Oct 17th 2007 07:01

Office/Business :: Financial :: Point-Of-Sale

About: Ah3 is an invoicing and inventory system for repair shops. It comes
configured for an auto repair shop but can be configured to handle any shop
with customers who have things to be repaired. It includes a customer and
vehicle database, the ability to generate invoices, and the ability to
track the repair history of a vehicle. It also tracks inventory, allowing
for parts with multiple vendors and costs and other information. Ah3 is
the successor to Autohouse II.

Changes: Sales reports were added. Configuration sections were added to
the user documentation. The input types for reports were enhanced. A
backup script was added. The Dialogs which cover the main window were made
slightly darker to help them stand out. The spec file was fixed to include
the real example database in the RPM file. Builds are now available for
openSuSE 10.2 and openSuSE 10.3.

Software Development :: Internationalization
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: Akelos is an MVC framework for PHP that tries to bring the magic of
Ruby on Rails to the PHP world. Akelos based applications can run on most
shared hosting service providers since Akelos only requires a standard PHP
installation on the server. Akelos is designed to make developers lives
simpler by solving complex problems with unusual speed and productivity.
Favoring "convention over configuration" leads to the creation of uniform
and simpler-to-understand code.

Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: Beanlet is an IoC container that was inspired by EJB3 and Spring.
Beanlet's programming model looks similar to that of EJB3, but offers much
of the flexibility of Spring. The Beanlet architecture supports JTA
transactions, JMX, the Java Persistence API, Web integration, and the
Spring Framework. It is meant for software projects that only require a
subset of the features of a full blown EJB server. Beanlet brings many of
the features of EJB to the world of the Java Standard Edition without the
restrictions and limitations of EJB.

[005] - BFilter 1.1.2
  by jart (http://freshmeat.net/users/jart/)
  Wed, Oct 17th 2007 14:06

Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: BFilter is a smart filtering HTTP proxy. Its primary purpose is
removing banner ads. Unlike the majority of similar tools, it doesn't rely
on a list of blocked URLs, but instead parses HTML on the fly, and detects
ads using a set of heuristic rules. BFilter has a built-in Javascript
engine that detects js-generated ads.

Changes: Two serious bugs were fixed. One of them could cause crashes, and
the other one prevented some pages from loading completely.

[006] - bftpd 2.0.2 (Development)
  by Slicer (http://freshmeat.net/users/slicer/)
  Wed, Oct 17th 2007 18:26

Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)

About: bftpd is a very configurable Linux FTP server which can do chroot
without special configuration or directory preparation. It will work
out-of-the-box with almost no configuration required, and works on all
Unix variants tested. Most FTP commands are supported, and user
authentication is done via passwd/shadow or PAM. tar/gzip on-the-fly is
supported.

Changes: This release reverses the policy of using a variable transfer
buffer size. The transfer buffer size now stays static, which makes
transfers faster. Variable buffers is an option in the configuration file.
Bftpd now shows hidden files on the system if the configuration file option
show_hidden_files is set to "yes".

[007] - C++ Mork Parser 1.0
  by Yuriy (http://freshmeat.net/users/jurasik/)
  Wed, Oct 17th 2007 14:28

Software Development :: Libraries

About: MorkParser is an efficient C++ implementation of a Mork database
format reader. The Mork format is used in most Mozilla-based projects,
including the Mozilla browser suite, SeaMonkey, Firefox, and Thunderbird.
In Firefox, it is used for browsing history data and form history data. In
Thunderbird, it is used for many things, such as address book data (.mab
files) and the mail folder summaries (.msf files). The MorkParser class
uses Qt, therefore it is cross-platform.

[008] - check_logfiles 2.3.1
  by lausser (http://freshmeat.net/users/lausser/)
  Wed, Oct 17th 2007 07:00

System :: Diagnostics
System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring

About: check_logfiles is a plugin for Nagios which checks logfiles for
defined patterns. It is capable of detecting logfile rotation. If you tell
it how the rotated archives look, it will also examine these files. Unlike
check_logfiles, traditional logfile plugins were not aware of the gap
which could occur, so under some circumstances they ignored what had
happened between their checks. A configuration file is used to specify
where to search, what to search, and what to do if a matching line is
found.

Changes: Templates are a new kind of tag which can be set at runtime. This
feature relieves you from configuring the same search for every single
hostname. Support for bzip2 archives was added. A scriptparam bug was
fixed. Threshold counters are inherited from the last run.

[009] - commonc++ 0.4
  by Mark Lindner (http://freshmeat.net/users/mesmerism/)
  Wed, Oct 17th 2007 14:00

Software Development :: Libraries

About: commonc++ is a C++ class library for developing cross-platform
systems software for POSIX and Windows systems. It provides an intuitive,
object-oriented abstraction and portability layer around common operating
system facilities like threads, concurrency mechanisms, sockets,
networking, shared memory and other IPC mechanisms, regular expressions,
files, streams, logging, process execution, scheduling, and more. It also
includes a collection of common abstractions like strings, buffers, and
object pools.

Changes: Many new classes were added, the XML API was rewritten, the JVM
API was refactored, support for symbolic stack traces was added, a new
JavaScript interpreter API was added, many of the existing classes were
enhanced, and several bugs were fixed.

[010] - Config::General 2.36
  by Tom (http://freshmeat.net/users/zarahg/)
  Wed, Oct 17th 2007 07:11

Software Development :: Libraries

About: With Config::General you can read and write config files and access
the parsed contents from a hash structure. The format of config files
supported by Config::General is inspired by the Apache config format (and
is 100% compatible with Apache configs). It also supports some
enhancements such as here-documents, C-style comments, and multiline
options.

Changes: Makefile.PL was enhanced. Release 2.35 is broken and should not

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Software Development :: Libraries

About: Data.FormValidator's aim is to bring all the benefits of the Perl
module Data::FormValidator over to JavaScript, using the same input
profiles. They can be dumped into JavaScript objects using the Perl module
Data::JavaScript. Profiles declare the required and optional fields and any
constraints they might have. They may be shared between your backend Perl
code. Frontend JavaScript validation may be done, allowing for consistent
and thorough validation on both the backend and frontend. The results are
provided as an object, which makes it easy to handle missing and invalid
results, return error messages about which constraints failed, or process
the resulting valid data.

Changes: A tinymce 2.x-specific getContent bug when more than one tinymce
editor was on the page has been fixed.

[029] - Grester 1.0
  by Michael Nyika (http://freshmeat.net/users/PrometheusBound/)
  Wed, Oct 17th 2007 07:23

Software Development :: Quality Assurance
Software Development :: Refactoring
Software Development :: Testing

About: The Maven-Grester plugin is a Maven2 plugin for Jester, the JUnit
tester tool. It enables Jester to be executed at any valid Maven lifecycle
phase in a Maven Project. It saves developers from constructing cumbersome
Java classpath entries on the commandline every time they need Jester to
run against JUnit Tests in the project. It can also help to dispense with
a suite of scripts that may have been written to handle complex Java
classpath executions for Maven projects.

Changes: A major change was made to the project's group ID so that the
folks at codehaus.org can upload grester to maven's public repo. The
org.apache.maven.plugins group ID is reserved for Apache folks, though it
makes it easier to run locally without specifying group+artifactIds. The
Readme file was changed to reflect changes.

  by Benny (http://freshmeat.net/users/bennygr/)
  Wed, Oct 17th 2007 06:36

Software Development

About: hashlib++ is a simple and very easy-to-use library to create a
cryptographic checksum called a "hash" in C++. hashlib++ is written in
plain C++ and should work with every compiler and platform. hashlib++
allows you to create a hash (for example MD5 or SHA1) with only one method
call.

Changes: SHA256 support has been added. A Linux/FreeBSD makefile and a
"Setup.exe" for Windows were added to build or install hashlib++ as a
static library. All files have been renamed using the prefix "hl_" to
prevent name collisions. Sprintf was replaced by using an ostringstream to
format the hash to a hex string.

About: ipt_pkd is an iptables extension implementing port knock detection.
This project provides 3 parts: the kernel module ipt_pkd, the iptables user
space module libipt_pkd.so, and a user space client knock program. For the
knock packet, it uses a UDP packet sent to a random port that contains a
SHA-256 of a timestamp, small header, random bytes, and a shared key.
ipt_pkd checks the time window of the packet and does the SHA-256 to
verify the packet. The shared key is never sent.

Software Development

About: NoMachine NX is a fast terminal server and desktop virtualization
system based on the X11 protocol. NX is an order of magnitude faster than
VNC or X11 and can run on bandwidth as narrow as 10 kBit/sec. In addition,
NX translates and embeds the MS Windows Terminal Server and VNC protocols
into X/NX, enabling users to compress and accelerate remote Windows and
VNC sessions. The NX project provides a suite of libraries and X11proxying
agents implementing efficient compression and optimized transport of X11,
SMB, IPP, HTTP, and arbitrary protocols like audio and video over the
Internet.

Changes: The new packages, besides providing server and node commands such
as alias for executing the setup scripts, fix a number of issues. For
example, a wrong keyboard may be set in KDE sessions displayed on the Mac
OS X platform if KDE sets its own layout, the session can be abruptly
disconnected by the client side due to a decoding error, NX Server may be
not able to add system users on SuSE 10, and a problem with file
permissions may occur during the installation of NX Server if umask is set

[052] - POMStrap 1.0.9
  by Alag (http://freshmeat.net/users/Alag/)
  Wed, Oct 17th 2007 10:23

Software Development :: Build Tools

About: POMStrap is a really simple Java application bootstrap and
classloader trick that allows dependency "classloading" without side
effect. POMStrap uses Maven2 pom files to resolve dependencies required to
launch an application. For example, if your application depends on A-1.0
(and can only work with this version) and B-1.0; and if B-1.0 also depends
on A-2.0, then B-1.0's dependency won't normally be able to be satisfied
without violating another one of your application's dependencies. POMStrap
avoids this kind of dependency conflict.

Changes: This release add 2 new features: the ability to load a dependency
only once (without version distinction), and the ability to find a resource
using classloader on a file in a Maven2 repository.

  Wed, Oct 17th 2007 04:48

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers

About: Rats! is a parser generator for C-like languages (though currently
it only generates parsers in Java). It has been designed so that grammars
are concise and easily extensible. To this end, grammars are organized
into modules that can be easily changed by adding, removing, or modifying
alternatives in individual productions and composed with each other
through module parameters. Furthermore, it relies on ordered choices to
avoid ambiguities, supports syntactic predicates for unlimited lookahead,
and integrates lexing with parsing. Finally, it has extensive support for
automatically generating abstract syntax trees, thus greatly reducing the
need for explicit semantic actions.

Changes: This release fixes several bugs. User-visible changes include
that column counts now start at 1 (instead of 0) and that the C parser now
reports errors relative to the original file name and line number (instead
of the preprocessed code).

languages. Example usages are access and content control (spam filtering)
for CGI scripts, wikis, email, revision control systems, IRC servers and
clients, and so on.

Changes: This release adds a lot new commands and features. The daemon now

Linux 2.6 kernels. It interoperates in both IKEv1 and IKEv2 mode with most
other IPsec-based VPN products. The focus of the strongSwan project is on
strong authentication mechanisms using X.509 public key certificates and
optional secure storage of private keys on smartcards through a
standardized PKCS#11 interface. A unique feature is the use of X.509
attribute certificates to implement advanced access control schemes based
on group memberships.

Changes: Recursive pthread mutexes were removed since uClib doesn't
support them and thus caused a compilation failure.

[061] - Stunnix C and C++ Obfuscator 2.8
  by Stunnix (http://freshmeat.net/users/stunnix/)
  Wed, Oct 17th 2007 04:26

Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Pre-processors
System :: Software Distribution

About: Stunnix CXX-Obfus is a code obfuscator for C and C++ source code.
It converts source code into highly a mangled form, making it extremely
difficult for competitors or customers to study, analyze, reuse, and
re-work, while fully retaining functionality of the original code. It has
many options to control all aspects of code hiding, and has full support
for all syntax constructs. It is designed for multi-file projects with
mixed C and C++ source and arbitrary heavy use of the C preprocessor. It
includes advanced tools to exclude API symbols from mangling.

Changes: The Project Manager GUI has been greatly improved, now it's much
more intuitive to use.

Communications :: Chat
Communications :: Chat :: Internet Relay Chat
Communications :: Conferencing

About: SurrealServices is a full replacement IRC Services package
providing NickServ, ChanServ, BotServ, MemoServ, and OperServ, as well as
LogServ and ConnectServ. Features are loosely based on
ConferenceRoom/Auspice and Anope, as well as NeoStats. Some security
features are also available such as a TOR (http://tor.eff.org/)
detector/banner and a country detector (which checks IP allocation and
optionally bans). It is multithreaded to eliminate lag due to the
asynchronous nature of MySQL and DNS lookups.

Changes: Some bugfixes, new TOR parsing code, and a fix for handling of ~c
extbans.

simplify the directory administration with a graphical interface and neat
features, while remaining a general purpose program (unlike some LDAP
browsers written specifically for managing users on the system).

attribute names no longer cause trouble. Attribute names are no longer
case sensitive.

[067] - YXA 1.0rc2
  by Fredrik Thulin (http://freshmeat.net/users/fredrikthulin/)
  Wed, Oct 17th 2007 10:14

About: YXA is a SIP stack and a set of SIP server applications written in
Erlang/OTP. The SIP stack is RFC3261 compliant. Among the features
implemented are SIP registrar, SIP router, forking, CPL, IPv6, TLS, ENUM,
PSTN gateway access control and modular user database backends. The main
goal of the project is to create a robust SIP server platform that can
scale to tens of thousands of users, be interoperable through standards
compliance, and still have short time-to-market for new features due to
the use of a high level language.

Changes: This release has a few bugfixes, but most notably all
documentation has been converted to edoc format.
