  by Pilot (http://freshmeat.net/users/infrastation/)
  Fri, Oct 19th 2007 02:47

System :: Boot :: Init
System :: Networking
System :: Systems Administration

About: /etc/net represents a new approach to Linux network configuration
tasks. Inspired by the limitations of traditional network configuration
subsystems, /etc/net provides built-in support for configuration profiles,
interface name management, removable devices, full iproute2 command set,
interface dependencies resolution, QoS, and firewall configuration
frameworks. /etc/net provides support for the following interface types:
ethernet, WiFi (WEP), IPv4/IPv6 tunnels, PSK IPSec tunnels, VLAN, PLIP,
ethernet bonding and bridging, traffic equalizer, PentNET, PentVALUE,
SkyStar-2, TUN/TAP, OpenVPN TUN/TAP, usbnet, and PPP. Due to its modular
structure, support for new interface types can be added without overall
design changes.

Changes: This release features a LINKDELAY option and bugfixes for
wpa_supplicant, firewall; OpenVPN and OpenSSH tunnels. There are some
other minor maintenance fixes.

[004] - Big Faceless PDF Library 2.8.5
  by BFO (Big Faceless Organization)
  Fri, Oct 19th 2007 03:04

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation

About: The Big Faceless PDF Library is a Java class library for creating
PDF documents. The Extended Edition offers the ability to create and edit
AcroForms, PDF's answer to the HTML form. Like HTML forms, PDF forms can
contain text boxes, radio buttons, and can call JavaScript functions. The
Extended Edition also includes a PDF reader for importing and editing,
along with FDF support, verification for digital signatures and text
extraction. Both variations offer full Unicode support, encryption,
embedded TrueType and Type1 fonts, barcodes, hyperlinks, and spot and
calibrated color.

Changes: Documents with Reader Extensions (Usage Rights) will have those
rights preserved if possible. Rendering bitmap images in PDFs has been
rewritten to support tiling and low-resolution thumbnails. This means
documents containing very large images should no longer require an equally
large amount of memory to render, and will render much faster at low
resolutions. New methods were added to the PDFViewerApplet class to
support LiveConnect, allowing the viewer applet to communicate with

  Fri, Oct 19th 2007 05:55

About: ckkl-core is a collection of Java classes developed for personal
projects and research. Its implemented features include but are not
limited to Java type handling with aliases and equality testing, easy
discovery and accessors for JavaBeans properties, functional-oriented
collections (list with map(), filter(), and others), and an API to support
an easy toString() implementation even for the most complex cases.

Changes: This release adds a functional-oriented list implementation under
the package org.ckkloverdos.collection. For now, it supports head(),
tail(), map(), and filter(), and has a lot of utility methods especially
for collections/arrays of strings. Abstractions for functions and filters
are under the packages org.ckkloverdos.{function, filter}. Pairs and
tuples are under the package org.ckkloverdos.tuple. This release
introduces the idea of hints as generic parameters to methods, under the
package org.ckkloverdos.hint. Hints are what the author calls

integrated systems that embed symbolic manipulations together with more
established areas of computer science (like computation-intense numeric

not try to provide extensive algebraic capabilities and a simple
programming language but instead accepts a given language (C++) and
extends it by a set of algebraic capabilities.

Software Development :: Libraries

About: GNU C library (glibc) is one of the most important components of
GNU Hurd and most modern Linux distributions. It is used by almost all C
programs and provides the most essential program interface.

Changes: More checking functions were added: fread, fread_unlocked, open*,

was added. C99/SUS compliance was made stricter by not recognizing "a" as
a modifier when those specs are requested. New interfaces were added:
mkostemp and mkostemp64. These are like mkstemp*, but allow additonal
options to be passed. New Linux interfaces were added: signalfd, eventfd,
eventfd_read, and eventfd_write. Private futexes are handled in the NPTL
implementation. O_CLOEXEC is supported. Linux/x86-64 vDSO is supported.
SHA-256 and SHA-512 based password encryption was implemented.

[028] - Middle Click Closes Tab Eclipse Plugin 1.0.0
  by Andriy (http://freshmeat.net/users/apa3a/)
  Fri, Oct 19th 2007 03:17

About: The Middle Click Closes Tab Eclipse Plugin makes it possible to
close tabs in Eclipse with a middle mouse button click. This is much
faster than using the tab close button because of the much bigger target
area. This trick especially helps when closing multiple tabs, since during
such an operation the remaining tabs get resized, and, as result, those
little close buttons move around a lot.

About: Zekr is an open platform for research and development on the Holy
Quran. It is a Quran-based project, planned to be a universal, open
source, cross-platform application to perform most of the usual
refererences to the Quran. The main idea is to build as generic a platform
as possible to be capable of having different add-ins for its tasks.

Changes: Quran Recitation support was added. More advanced navigation
through Juzs, Hizbs, et cetera was implemented. An alpha enabled splash
screen was added.
