Database :: Database Engines/Servers
Software Development

About: bonddb is an object orientated wrapper for PostgreSQL. It's a fast
data abstraction layer written in C for C/C++ applications, to allow easy
access to class objects. You can use existing PostgreSQL databases without
any modification or additional tables needed in the backend.

Changes: Several venerabilities have been fixed. The administration role
has been enabled for controlling what users have access to what
tables/fields which are used in bond. A module for interfacing with Visual
Basic was added. Many improvements were made to the error handling,
especially with regard to firewalls and SQL query failures. Many memory
leaks and odd memory errors were fixed. Support for large object fields
(like binary data) was added. Notify/listen support was added within
bonddb, so you can listen for object changes. Integration with
bondreplicate was added.

keyboard. Writer-dependent, CellWriter learns your handwriting for
reliable recognition. Correcting preprocessor algorithms account for
digitizer noise, differing stroke order, direction, and number of strokes.
Unicode support enables you to write in any language.

Changes: Many command line options have been added. The on-screen keyboard
has been improved, and key event generation bugs have been fixed. The main
window is now dockable, and can be embedded into gnome-screensaver.

[011] - Elixir 0.4.0
  by Gaetan de Menten (http://freshmeat.net/users/gedeon/)
  Mon, Oct 29th 2007 07:13

Database :: Front-Ends
Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules

About: Elixir is a declarative layer on top of SQLAlchemy. It is a fairly
thin wrapper that provides the ability to define model objects following
the Active Record design pattern, and using a DSL syntax similar to that
of the Ruby on Rails ActiveRecord system. It does not intend to replace
SQLAlchemy's core features, but instead focuses on providing a simpler
syntax for defining model objects when you do not need the full
expressiveness of SQLAlchemy's manual mapper definitions.

Changes: A new attribute-based syntax to declare fields and relationships,
several kinds of inheritance (polymorphic or not), and a data versioning
extension were implemented. Many other new features, improvements, and
bugfixes were added. The documentation was also greatly extended.

[012] - ExactImage 0.4.1
  by René Rebe (http://freshmeat.net/users/ReneRebe/)
  Mon, Oct 29th 2007 07:07

Multimedia :: Graphics

About: ExactImage is a fast C++ image processing library. Unlike
ImageMagick, it allows operation in several color spaces and bit depths
natively, resulting in much lower memory and computational requirements.
Some optimized algorithms operate in 1/20 of the time ImageMagick
requires, and displaying large images can be as fast as 1/10 of the time
the "display" program takes.

Changes: Support for lossless and fast JPEG cropping was added. The TIFF
codec was improved for interoperability with Apple's TIFF framework to
utilitze G4 compression if requested and to zero initialize the x/y
resolution if not specified by the file. A tiny memory leak was fixed in
the JPEG codec. Edentify was fixed to compute the correct physical image
size. The crop_and_rotate function was improved to allow negative start

[013] - Expect-lite 3.0.0
  by Craig Miller (http://freshmeat.net/users/cvmiller/)
  Mon, Oct 29th 2007 12:04

Software Development :: Quality Assurance

About: Expect-lite is a wrapper for expect, created to make expect
programming even easier. The wrapper permits the creation of expect script
command files by using special character(s) at the beginning of each line
to indicate the expect-lite action. Basic expect-lite scripts can be
created by simply cutting and pasting text from a terminal window into a
script, and adding '>' '

Changes: The entire command script read subsystem has changed. The
previous system read directly from the script file. The new system reads
the script file into a buffer, which can be randomly accessed. This
permits looping (realistically only repeat loops). Infinite loop
protection has been added. Variable increment and decrement have been
added to support looping.

[014] - Extended Module Player 2.4.1
  by Claudio Matsuoka (http://freshmeat.net/users/cl/)
  Mon, Oct 29th 2007 07:10

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players

About: The Extended Module Player is a command-line mod player for
Unix-like systems that plays over 70 mainstream and obscure module formats
from Amiga, Atari, Acorn, Apple IIgs, and PC, including Protracker (MOD),
Scream Tracker 3 (S3M), Fast Tracker II (XM), and Impulse Tracker (IT)

Changes: This release implements correct logarithmic interpolation of the
player periods, software mixer frequencies, and sample rate to fine tune
conversion, fixing many fine tuning problems. Other fixes include correct
implementation of Protracker sample loops required by some (rare) modules,
improved detection of Ultimate Soundtracker and UNIC Tracker modules, and
proper sample offset after the note cut effect.

[017] - GNU ddrescue 1.6-rc5 (Development)
  by Antonio Diaz Diaz (http://freshmeat.net/users/ant_diaz/)
  Mon, Oct 29th 2007 06:42

System :: Recovery Tools

About: GNU ddrescue is a data recovery tool. It copies data from one file
or block device (hard disc, cdrom, etc) to another, trying hard to rescue
data in case of read errors. GNU ddrescue does not truncate the output
file if not asked to. So, every time you run it on the same output file,
it tries to fill in the gaps. The basic operation of GNU ddrescue is fully
automatic. That is, you don't have to wait for an error, stop the program,
read the log, run it in reverse mode, etc. If you use the logfile feature
of GNU ddrescue, the data is rescued very efficiently (only the needed
blocks are read). Also you can interrupt the rescue at any time and resume
it later at the same point.

Changes: This version uses a better resumability criterion for retrying
and fill mode. The fill mode code has been simplified and made more
efficient. A small bug in one of the consistency checks has been fixed.
