[001] - AgileWiki 0.8.1 (CowDb)
  by Bill la Forge (http://freshmeat.net/users/laforge49/)
  Wed, Dec 5th 2007 09:29

Database
Documentation
Information Management

About: AgileWiki is a program that explores new knowledge representation.
It is an attempt to implement, at least in part, Norm Kashdan's Rolonic
Theory. This is a profoundly different approach to time and knowledge
representation.

Changes: CowDb is a light-weight, crash-proof transactional object store.
Each database is a single disk file (multiple databases can be open at the
same time.) Branches (virtual copies) are also supported. The threading
model permits multiple readers and a writer at the same time in the same
db, so long as the readers are not accessing the branch being updated.

[002] - Astaro Security Linux 7.100 (Stable 7.X)
  by astaro (http://freshmeat.net/users/astaro/)
  Wed, Dec 5th 2007 09:39

System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: Astaro Security Linux is an all-in-one network security gateway
that includes a firewall, intrusion protection, virus protection, spam
protection, URL filtering, and a VPN gateway. Features include stateful
packet inspection, deep packet filtering, intrusion detection and
prevention, portscan detection, content filtering, virus detection for
email and Web traffic, profile handling, IPSec, SSL, and PPTP VPN
tunneling, spam blocking, proxies for HTTP, FTP, POP3, SMTP, DNS, VoIP,
SOCKS, and Ident, logging, and reporting. The WebAdmin, the Install
Wizard, and Up2Date service make it easy to install, manage, and update.

Changes: This release integrates Web security features like Active
Directory SSO native mode, improved performance, lower resource usage
(without squid now), and intelligent caching. It re-adds black/whitelist
and audio/video streaming support. It supports interface-based packet
filter rules, offers a detailed network accounting report, and much more.
There are also convenience changes and performance improvements.

[003] - axTLS 1.1.8
  by Cameron Rich (http://freshmeat.net/users/cameronrich/)
  Wed, Dec 5th 2007 02:14

About: axTLS is a highly configurable client/server TLSv1 SSL library
designed for embedded platforms. It comes with a small HTTPS server and
additional test tools. It features a very small footprint, use of TLSv1
(an improvement on SSLv3), session resumption, AES128/AES256 (as well as
RC4), portability across many systems, variable RSA key sizes, a very
simple API, peer client/server verification, certificate chaining, session
renegotiation, highly configurable compile-time options, and interfaces for
C#, VB.NET, Java, and Perl. It also implements a Web server.

Changes: axTLS now includes an automatic certificate generator which can
be used to create self-signed certificates when the SSL context is
initialized (a private key still needs to be provided). This should make
SSL on embedded devices more flexible (and reduce the nasty messages that
a browser produces).

Multimedia :: Graphics :: 3D Rendering

About: BRL-CAD is a powerful constructive solid geometry solid modeling
system that includes an interactive geometry editor, ray-tracing support
for rendering and geometric analysis, path-tracing for realistic image
synthesis, network distributed framebuffer support, and image and
signal-processing tools.

Changes: A major productivity enhancement introduced in this release is
tab-completion in 'mged'. Also included is a major change to the default
behaviors of the ray-tracers and framebuffer tools where the windows will
now linger by default. Similarly, Z-clipping is now disabled by default in
'mged'. Bugs were fixed in a variety of tools including in 'benchmark',
'dbconcat', 'mged', and 'rt'. The output precision of 'nirt' was increased
for improved geometric interrogation. This release also adds a new 'beset'
tool that uses evolutionary computation to detect geometric shapes.

  by Andreas Neuper (http://freshmeat.net/users/aneuper/)
  Wed, Dec 5th 2007 02:37

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Analysis
System :: Archiving :: Compression
System :: Filesystems

About: Freedup eliminates duplicate files by linking them, and thus
reduces the amount of used disk space within one or more file systems. By
default, hardlinks are used on a single device, symbolic links when the
devices differ. A set of options allows you to modify the methods of file
comparison, the hash functions, the linking behavior, and the reporting
style. You may use batch or interactive mode. Freedup usually only
considers identical files, but when comparing audio or graphics files, you
may elect to ignore the tags.

Changes: Symbolic linking was broken if first a partial and later a full
pathname for the initial trees were given. This release corrects this and
supplies the missing HTML files for Cygwin RPM builds. The spec file
description was renewed, too.

  Wed, Dec 5th 2007 09:32

Internet
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Browsers

About: kReiSSy is an integrated RSS feed reader and Web browser
implemented in pykde. Its distinctive feature is that you can tag any
article you read in the Internet and it becomes an article you can view,
search, and tag in the main interface.

Changes: Browsing does not open new tabs. This release can show any file
types KDE can handle via embedding KParts. There are many bugfixes.
Support has been added for both sqlalchemy 0.3.x and 0.4.x. There are
fixes in post-per-feed counting. This release has more and better post
states: new, unread, read, read later/important, and delete. DCOP support
has been added.

[026] - libmicrohttpd 0.1.2
  by Christian Grothoff (http://freshmeat.net/users/grothoff/)
  Wed, Dec 5th 2007 23:07

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
Software Development :: Libraries

About: libmicrohttpd is a small C library for embedding HTTP server
functionality into other applications. It is reentrant, fast, supports
HTTP 1.1, and permits listening on multiple ports. The API is simple and
still powerful enough to allow programmers to use the entire HTTP feature
set.

Changes: This release fixes an off-by-one in HTTP status code text error
message selection. The new code should no longer generate SIGPIPE signals
(on platforms that support this). A bug causing problems with processing
of POST requests with "Connection: close" headers was fixed. A (very rare)
data race causing connection drops in multi-threaded mode was resolved.

[027] - Low-Level Virtual Machine 2.1
  by Misha Brukman (http://freshmeat.net/users/brukman/)
  Wed, Dec 5th 2007 02:59

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers

About: Low-Level Virtual Machine (LLVM) is a compiler infrastructure
designed for compile-time, link-time, run-time, and "idle-time"
optimization of programs from arbitrary programming languages. It
currently supports compilation of C and C++ programs, using front-ends
derived from GCC 3.4 and 4.0.1. There is a demonstration front end,
Stacker, which provides a simple Forth-like language. Work is currently
under way to provide a Java class file front-end, as well as other
significant improvements.

Changes: Two new beta C front-ends were added: a new version of llvm-gcc
based on gcc-4.2, and LLVM's own native C and Objective-C front-end, code
named "clang". This front-end has a number of great features, primarily
aimed at source-level analysis and speeding up compile time. This release
includes new optimization passes: memory dependence analysis and global
value numbering, and code generator improvements for X86, PPC, and ARM.
C++ zero-cost exception handling now works in llvm-gcc-4.0 and
llvm-gcc-4.2 on Linux/x86-32.

About: CuteGod is a casual god game where the player arranges the world to
answer the prayers of the occupants of a small universe. As the game
progresses, the prayers get more complicated and it becomes harder to
arrange the blocks in a given time frame before they run out of health.

Changes: This release adds animated tiles and some graphical changes. It
updates the image and sound loading to handle a separate data file (now
required but updated less often) and to reduce the package size. It adds a
Linux startup script that performs some validation. A display for the
currently selected stack has been added. Characters now move around.

  by Thomas Orgis (http://freshmeat.net/users/sobukus/)
  Wed, Dec 5th 2007 02:51

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players :: MP3

About: Mpg123 is a fast, free and portable MPEG audio player for Unix. It
supports MPEG 1.0/2.0/2.5 layers 1, 2 and 3. For full CD quality playback
(44 kHz, 16 bit, stereo) a fast i486, Pentium, SPARCstation10, DEC Alpha
or similar CPU is required. Mono and/or reduced quality playback (22 kHz
or 11 kHz) is even possible on slower 486 CPUs.

Changes: This is the first release candidate for version 1.0. It includes
a full-featured decoder library and a plugin system for audio output.
Testing is mainly needed for building on different platforms and making
exotic audio outputs work again. Besides fixing bugs and enabling exotic
platforms again, there are no changes to be expected before the final

[037] - Privilege Separation for Apache 0.5
  by Michael Clark (http://freshmeat.net/users/metaparadigm/)
  Wed, Dec 5th 2007 09:38

Communications :: File Sharing
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers

About: The Privilege Separation patches for Apache HTTPD and 'mod_dav'
address the problem that an Apache WebDAV server can only write files as
the non-privileged Web server user (usually something like 'nobody' or
'www'). The patches address this shortcoming in a secure way by adding
privilege separation to the Apache Web server (conceptually similar to SSH
privilege separation). A privilege-separated Apache can be used to provide
secure WebDAV write access to ~user directories and allow the use of
per-user Unix quotas. When combined with mod_ssl, it provides a convenient
and secure remote file serving system, as WebDAV clients are seamlessly
integrated into both Windows and Mac OS X.

Changes: This release fixes a bug with recursive deletion of directories.
Patches have been rebased to Apache 1.3.39.

About: psync is a mirroring utility. Its main goal is to be able to update
a distribution mirror but keep it as consistent as possible. One of the
main problems with updating a mirror is that if the mirroring process is

Security
Security :: Cryptography
System :: Networking

About: strongSwan is a complete IPsec and IKEv1 implementation for Linux
2.4 and 2.6 kernels. It also fully supports the new IKEv2 protocol with
Linux 2.6 kernels. It interoperates in both IKEv1 and IKEv2 mode with most
other IPsec-based VPN products. The focus of the strongSwan project is on
strong authentication mechanisms using X.509 public key certificates and
optional secure storage of private keys on smartcards through a
standardized PKCS#11 interface. A unique feature is the use of X.509
attribute certificates to implement advanced access control schemes based
on group memberships.

Changes: IKEv2 repeated authentication (RFC 4478) was implemented to
force, for example, EAP clients to periodically re-establish an IKE_SA.
Support of IPv6 IPsec connections was fully tested, including seamless
integration of ip6tables firewall rules. The Web-based strongSwan Manager
now allows the interactive starting and stopping of IKE and CHILD SAs.

  Wed, Dec 5th 2007 13:29

About: Sylbi is a conversation system that is not a forum and not a
blogging platform, but a combination of the two. It grew from the idea
that a blog with comments and a forum only differ in their perspective of
 the conversation. Both provide a chronological set of postings, initiated
by someone, and, (potentially) replied to by others. The main difference
is the perspective they present: a blog presents the perspective of the
blog owner(s), while a forum presents the perspective of the forum and a
topic defined in the forum. Sylbi allows you to look at conversations
either way.

[056] - Systems of Ordinary Differential Equations 14 (RubySode)
  by Dennis J. Darland (http://freshmeat.net/users/djdarland/)
  Wed, Dec 5th 2007 09:35

About: Sode.rb generates a Ruby program to use long Taylor series to solve
systems of ordinary differential equations. It generates code to solve the
equations in Ruby. Using the Taylor series, estimates are made of the
location and order of poles. An effort is made to adjust H to control the
error. It has worked well in testing, but needs more testing as there are
so many possibilities.

Changes: Y. F. Chang's Draft Typescript has been added to the Web
documentation. A fixed version of mtest6d (complicated test) has been
added.

[057] - Tellmatic 1.0.7.2
  by vizzy (http://freshmeat.net/users/multiart/)
  Wed, Dec 5th 2007 22:59

Communications :: Email :: Mail Transport Agents
Communications :: Email :: Mailing List Servers
Communications :: Email :: Post-Office

About: Tellmatic is a tool to manage and create newsletters for
personalized mailing or mass mailing. Addresses and newsletters are stored
in groups to handle different user groups and thousands of addresses at a
time. SMTP is used for sending the newsletter to your subscribers to make
sure you get all error and bounce messages. Bounces can be handled
automagically via a small bounce-management module with POP3 access. It
also has a small form-editor and statistics. You can import and export
your addresses in CSV format.

Changes: Some PHP warnings were removed and some small fixes were made.
Support for multipart-mime/mixed/alternative was added. A 'bug' with
viewing newsletters where status was set even if unsubscribed was fixed. A
status of 7:unsubscribed was added for history. A bug when searching for
mixed case emails was fixed. move_uploaded file is now used instead of
copy for uploaded files. A problem with send time being zero was fixed.

[058] - The GeoViz Toolkit 0.8
  by GeoVizer (http://freshmeat.net/users/GeoVizer/)
  Wed, Dec 5th 2007 23:17

Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization

About: The GeoViz Toolkit is set of tools developed for the visualization
of multidimensional geographic data. It is an application version of
GeoVISTA Studio in which a sample of these components were adapted to a
more "user-friendly" environment and coordinated to support analysis of
multivariate relationships in geographic space. The components are
coordinated with each other, so if you select a different set of variables
in one component, that change will be reflected in the other components
being used.

[059] - The SirBot Project 0.2.1
  by SirLoon (Sébastien Lelong) (http://freshmeat.net/users/SirLoon/)
  Wed, Dec 5th 2007 23:09

Scientific/Engineering
Software Development

About: The SirBot Project provides an easy way to build, program, control,
and monitor amateur robots. Programming a bot is done writing a Python
class. A declaration protocol syntax is used to define what can be done
(primitive/complex actions). Using a Python CLI, the robot can be
interactively controlled and dynamically programmed. While the bot is
performing several actions, every piece of information is able to produce
events, thanks to the event declaration syntax. Events can also be created
from other events (cascading events), conditionnaly triggered under
specific conditions (pre-condition), and activate user-defined actions
(post-conditions) according to a particular event state. The library
provides detailed instructions to build electronic boards (PIC-based) and
connect them to build a robot.

Changes: 16F88 is now fully supported and integrated (bootloader). A sound
sensor is available, with jal libraries for it (play/record PCM sounds,
text-to-speech, etc.). jal libraries have been migrated to the jal v2.3
compiler, and configuration is now easier. Communication frames can now
have a variable length.

Information Management
Utilities

About: ua is a simple command line tool that finds sets of identical
files. The name is derived from the Hungarian word ugyanaz, meaning the
same. The development of ua was motivated by the disturbingly often
recurring event of waiting too long for a shell script using sorts,
md5sums, diffs, and the like to finish finding identical files.

Changes: This is a bugfix release which fixes an issue regarding 2 stage
hashing.

[068] - VeriTAR 0.3.0
  by gnot (http://freshmeat.net/users/gnot/)
  Wed, Dec 5th 2007 16:47

System :: Archiving

About: VeriTAR [Veri(fy)TAR] is a command-line utility that verifies the
MD5 sums of files within a tar archive. Due to the limitations of the tar
("ustar") format, the MD5 sums are retrieved from a separate file and are
checked against the MD5 sums of the files within the tar archive. The
process takes place without actually exctracting the files. It works even
with corrupted tar archives. The program carries on to the next file
within the archive, skipping the damaged parts. At the moment, this relies
on internal functions of Python's tarfile module.

Changes: Code redesign. Translation of TAR member types. Various minor
fixes. Command line options for message detail. The program now processes
only TAR members that are 'regular files'. Counters and summary, a timer,
an installation script, and a launch script have been added.

Changes: When administrators view the comic, they will be able to see all
comics, even ones that are hidden or haven't aired yet. Comic images can
be changed directly from "Edit Comic", without having to go through the
upload interface. Minor bugfixes and cleanup and reorganization were done.

[074] - ziproxy 2.4.2
  by Daniel Mealha Cabrita (http://freshmeat.net/users/dancab/)
  Wed, Dec 5th 2007 03:03

Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: Ziproxy is a forwarding (non-caching) proxy that gzips text and
HTML files, and reduces the size of images by converting them to lower
quality JPEGs. It is intended to increase the speed for low-speed Internet
connections and it's suitable for both home and professional usage. Ziproxy
is fully configurable and also features transparent proxy mode, preemptive
name resolution, operation in either daemon mode or (x)inetd mode, a
detailed access log with compression statistics, basic authentication, and
more.

Changes: Bugs were fixed related to premature disconnection while
streaming, incomplete data of streaming files (in certain cases), and the
crash while starting ziproxy with the default configuration file. The
debug log now includes proper PID entries. Certain stream routines were
rewritten, providing a very high performance boost in certain cases.
