[001] - Adaptive Quality of Service Architecture 1.0.0-rc1 (qosres)
  by cucinotta (http://freshmeat.net/users/cucinotta/)
  Fri, Dec 7th 2007 11:15

Multimedia
System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux

About: AQuoSA is an open architecture for the provisioning of adaptive
Quality of Service functionality into the Linux kernel. The project
features a flexible, portable, and lightweight software architecture for
supporting QoS-related services on top of a general-purpose operating
system as Linux. The architecture is well founded on formal scheduling
analysis and control theoretical results. At the core of the software is
an adaptive Resource Reservation layer that is capable of dynamically
adapting the CPU allocation for QoS-aware applications based on their
run-time requirements.

Changes: This release fixes a few configuration issues and minor bugs, and
introduces the ability to reserve a certain amount of spare bandwidth in
the supervisor configuration (useful for adaptive reservations).

[003] - Arno's IPTABLES Firewall Script 1.8.8j
  by Arno (http://freshmeat.net/users/arnova/)
  Fri, Dec 7th 2007 01:22

System :: Networking
System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: Arno's IPTABLES Firewall Script is a secure stateful firewall for
both single and multi-homed machines. It supports NAT and SNAT, port
forwarding, ADSL ethernet modems with both static and dynamically assigned
IPs, MAC address filtering, stealth port scan detection, DMZ and DMZ-2-LAN
forwarding, protection against SYN/ICMP flooding, and extensive user
definable logging with rate limiting to prevent log flooding. It has
plugin support to add extra features (like SSH Brute Force protection and
(Racoon) IPSEC support). It is easy to configure and highly customizable.
A filter script that makes your firewall log more readable is also
included.

Changes: Antispoof for the DMZ and INTERNAL networks are now only enabled
when INT_IF and DMZ_IF are set. The DEFAULT_POLICY_DROP option was added
to allow users to disable setting the iptables default policy to DROP. An
invalid rule for UDP was fixed. A minor bug in the NAT forwards was fixed:
the FORWARD rule was missing the host destination. PLUGIN_CONF_PATH was
added to the plugin code. Minor cosmetic fixes were made.

Database :: Front-Ends
Office/Business
Software Development :: Code Generators

About: Aubit 4GL compiler is an Informix-4GL compatible compiler and
runtime environment. It translates 4GL source into executable programs,
enabling very fast creation of screen/form-based applications. With
support for SQL statements forming an intrinsic part of the language, it's
especially suitable for developing database-oriented applications. Database
connectivity is provided for PostgreSQL, MySQL, Informix, and ODBC. It
supports both ncurses (console mode) and GTK+ (GUI mode) output.

Changes: This release adds improved SQL translation, better BLOB handling,
"INITIALIZE LIKE", proper handling of non-numeric aggregates in reports, UI
improvements (including Shift-Tab implementation), better ACE Report
handling, substantial changes to DECIMAL handling, and an initial
implementation of BIGINT.

[006] - autocrc 0.3
  by Jonas Bengtsson (http://freshmeat.net/users/JB2/)
  Fri, Dec 7th 2007 17:06

Communications :: File Sharing
System :: Archiving
Utilities

About: autocrc uses 32-bit CRC-sums to verify the integrity of files. The
CRC-sums are parsed both from filenames and from sfv files. autocrc can
perform CRC-checks recursively. After it's done, it prints summary of the
result.

Changes: This release fixes a bug that made all CRC checks fail on 64-bit
systems. The CRC checking code has been separated from the output code,
which makes it easy to add new user interfaces. A simple optional wxpython
interface has been added. The console interface now sets the exit status,
which makes it easy to call autocrc from shell scripts. A distutils
setup.py script has also been added.

[061] - rsyslog 1.20.0 (Development)
  by Rainer Gerhards (http://freshmeat.net/users/rgerhards/)
  Fri, Dec 7th 2007 08:09

System :: Logging

About: Rsyslog is an enhanced multi-threaded syslogd. Among other
features, it offers support for reliable syslog over TCP and RFC 3195,
writing to MySQL databases, fully configurable output formats (including
great timestamps), the ability to filter on any part of the syslog
message, and on-the-wire message compression. It is designed as a drop-in
replacement for stock syslogd and thus is able to work with the same
configuration file syntax. Of course, some enhanced features require
changing the configuration file, but in general, this should be fairly
easy.

Changes: Native support for PostgreSQL databases has been added, allowing
the user to store syslog data in PostgreSQL tables with a single
configuration line. The module unload interface has been improved, though
this is not visible from the users' point of view. There has also some
code cleanup and portability enhancements. Users are not yet urged to
upgrade to the new release, unless interested in the new functionality.

[062] - Safe and SafeDesktop 2.4.1
  by daywalker (http://freshmeat.net/users/ddaayywallkkkeeeer/)
  Fri, Dec 7th 2007 13:06

About: The idea behind Safe is that a user need not remember all her login
names and passwords. Instead, the user utilizes her cell phone to store
sensitive data in an encrypted way. Only one root password is required to
be remembered to get access to the data. The cell phone in question needs
to support J2ME applications. SafeDesktop is a cross-platform desktop
application that provides the same features as Safe, and has a mechanism
to keep the data synchronized between the two.

Changes: Export and import have been improved. Minor bugs have been fixed
(mainly typos).

Text Processing :: Indexing

About: Sman is "The Searcher for Man Pages", an enhanced version of
"apropos" and "man -k". Sman adds several key abilities over its
predecessors, including stemming and support for complex boolean text
searches such as "(linux and kernel) or (mach and microkernel)". It shows
results in a ranked order, optionally with a summary of the manpage with
the searched text highlighted. Searches may be applied to the manpage
section, title, body, or filename. The complete contents of the man page
are indexed. A prebuilt index is used to perform fast searches.

Changes: Documentation updates, updates to the TODO file, and
documentation and sample code changes.

Communications :: Email

About: smtptrapd is a high performance, multi-threaded daemon that
provides an RFC 2821 compliant SMTP service that always returns a 4xx soft
error to the RCPT TO verb. This is useful to run as a secondary MX service
to reduce the amount of spam received.

Changes: The correct response is now returned to the SMTP RSET command.

[065] - Sylbi 0.04
  by arbingersys (http://freshmeat.net/users/arbingersys/)
  Fri, Dec 7th 2007 11:12

About: Sylbi is a conversation system that is not a forum and not a
blogging platform, but a combination of the two. It grew from the idea
that a blog with comments and a forum only differ in their perspective of
 the conversation. Both provide a chronological set of postings, initiated
by someone, and, (potentially) replied to by others. The main difference
is the perspective they present: a blog presents the perspective of the
blog owner(s), while a forum presents the perspective of the forum and a
topic defined in the forum. Sylbi allows you to look at conversations
either way.

Changes: This release adds moderator functionality. Now you can delete
individual posts and delete conversations. The "Moderator.pm" module has
been added, since site moderation is a subset of administrator duties, and
users with the "moderator" flag, not just admins, will be able to perform
these functions.

[068] - Tokyo Cabinet 1.1.0
  by Mikio Hirabayashi (http://freshmeat.net/users/mikio/)
  Fri, Dec 7th 2007 00:53

Database :: Database Engines/Servers
Software Development :: Libraries

About: Tokyo Cabinet is a library of routines for managing a database. It
is the successor of QDBM. Tokyo Cabinet runs very fast. For example, the
time required to store 1 million records is 1.5 seconds for a hash
database and 2.2 seconds for a B+ tree database. Moreover, the database
size is very small. For example, the overhead for a record is 16 bytes for
a hash database, and 5 bytes for a B+ tree database. Furthermore, the
scalability of Tokyo Cabinet is great. The database size can be up to 8EB.

Changes: A record cache of the hash database API was added. Test tools
were enhanced.

  Fri, Dec 7th 2007 11:14

Software Development

About: TOPCASED (Toolkit in OPen source for Critical Applications and
SystEm Development) is a system/software engineering workshop based on
Eclipse. It aims to provide the tools required to go from requirements to
the implementation stages. The current version includes several graphical
editors: ECORE, UML 2, structured analysis, AADL (Architecture Analysis
and Design Language), etc. These editors are partially generated from
ECORE models and models can be checked (OCL and EMF checks are currently
supported). External tools can be easily connected to the workshop.

Changes: This release includes mainly bugfixes (diagram exports, a
graphical editor interface, model imports, etc.) and a few improvements
(code generation from UML state machines and class diagrams, SAM graphical
properties, etc.).

[070] - TurtolCMS 0.5.20
  by Turtol LLC (http://freshmeat.net/users/turtol/)
  Fri, Dec 7th 2007 11:02

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: TurtolCMS is a powerful, flexible Web content management system.
With it, you can manage every aspect of your Web content directly from
your Web browser with intuitive editing tools. TurtolCMS does not restrict
you with a template, but allows a designer full freedom to build any
desired look and then gracefully re-use that design consistently for any
new content that is added.

Changes: Several bugs were fixed in this release. A security issue was
resolved that could have potentially allowed malicious code to run when
logging in to the TurtolCMS. Pages and widgets with blank data can now be
saved. Links that launch a window can no longer launch more than one
window if clicked multiple times. During an upload, editing functionality
is suspended so that status on the completion of the file upload is always
provided. A forward slash is prepended to a file name being uploaded if the
first character specified wasn't a forward slash.

[071] - XHTML Family Tree Generator 2.3.7
  by Ferenc Bodon (http://freshmeat.net/users/bodon/)
  Fri, Dec 7th 2007 16:56

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries

About: XHTML Family Tree Generator is a CGI Perl script together with some
Perl modules that will create views of a family tree. Data can be stored in
a database or in a data file. The data file is either a simple text (CSV),
an Excel, or GEDCOM file listing the family members, parents, and other
details. It is possible to show a tree of ancestors and descendants for
any person, showing any number of generations. Other facilities are
provided for showing email directories, birthday reminders, facehall, and
more. It has a simple configuration, makes heavy use of CGI (and other
CPAN modules), generates valid XHTML, and has support for Unicode and
multiple languages.

Changes: Romanian language support has been added, and the code has been
cleaned up.
