About: activeQuant (formerly known as CCAPI) is a financial engineering
and financial application library for Java. It provides interfaces for
automated stock exchange trading through IB. Additionally, it provides
functions to retrieve online data from various sources: IB, OpenTick, and
Yahoo. It provides a comprehensive library of technical and mathematical
indicator implementations, like MACD, SMA, EMA, RSI, Williams %R,
Correlation, and more. It also has a Matlab interface.

Changes: This release supports the ability to scan various market
instruments to see if a hammer pattern is present, which can indicate a
falling market. AnalysisKit has been expended in its ability to analyse
and process data. Necessary data for this component is provided by the
HistoryDownload application, which retrieves and stores tick-level data in
various formats, e.g. MySQL 5 and Derby DBs via hibernate. The Charting
Trading Browser is another new feature that is based off of this increased
database functionality. Overall, 2,000 small changes were placed.

About: aria2 is a utility for downloading files. It has completely new
design concept from its predecessor, Aria, and is written from scratch.
aria2 has a segmented downloading engine in its core. It can download one
file from multiple URLs or multiple connections from one URL. This results
in very high speed downloading, much faster than ordinary browsers. This
engine in was implemented in a single-thread model. The architecture is
clean and easy to extend. aria2 currently supports HTTP, FTP, and
BitTorrent. It also supports Metalink version 3.0.

Changes: This release adds HTTP/FTP/BitTorrent integration, the ability to
detect Metalink/torrent file based on the content type, a fast Metalink XML
parser, translations for Brazilian Portuguese, Catalan, Italian, Spanish,
and Swedish, and many more features. Please note that this release cannot
resume downloads of previous versions of aria2 and vice verca.

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Capture/Recording

About: butt (broadcast using this tool) is an easy to use, open source,
multi-OS tool that grabs audio data from your sound card (line-in, CD,
wave, etc.), encodes the PCM data into MP3/OGG, and sends it to a
streaming server. ShoutCast and IceCast are supported.

Changes: Recording runs in its own thread now. This means that your
recording will not mess up if you have connection problems. You can even
record without being connected to a server. Status symbols were added to
the display. You can make your password visible by clicking the button to
the right of the password field.

Games/Entertainment :: Arcade
Games/Entertainment :: Multi-User Dungeons (MUD)

About: Deliantra is a client for Deliantra game servers. It offers an
intuitive user interface for exploring the vast game world, a persistent
minimap, powerful macros and keymaps, dialog-based NPC interaction, and
easy configuration for the skill, spell, and item system. It is based on
Perl, SDL, and OpenGL for high performance on modern systems, and works on
both Unix and Windows. Ports to other platforms should be very easy and are
underway.

Changes: This release has a fix in audio jingle playing (sometimes a
jingle was played repeatedly if there was no server-provided music
available). Some debugging hooks were added, and the code was updated to
follow API changes in some of the modules used.

About: DeVeDe is a program to create video DVDs (compatible with home
players) from nearly any video format. It only uses Python 2.4, MPlayer,
Mencoder, DVDAuthor, VCDImager, and mkisofs, so it has very few
dependencies.

Changes: Compatibility was improved by using CGOP and SC_THRESOLD. A GOP
of 15 frames is now used instead of 18 when creating a NTSC, 24fps disc,
as the standard dictates. A bug in the Italian translation which prevented
the "Not enough disk space" message from being shown was fixed.

[017] - Elixir 0.5.0
  by Gaetan de Menten (http://freshmeat.net/users/gedeon/)
  Sun, Dec 9th 2007 06:08

Database :: Front-Ends
Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules

About: Elixir is a declarative layer on top of SQLAlchemy. It is a fairly
thin wrapper that provides the ability to define model objects following
the Active Record design pattern, and using a DSL syntax similar to that
of the Ruby on Rails ActiveRecord system. It does not intend to replace
SQLAlchemy's core features, but instead focuses on providing a simpler
syntax for defining model objects when you do not need the full
expressiveness of SQLAlchemy's manual mapper definitions.

Changes: This is mostly a bugfix release, but some pretty important
changes were also made to the default values for options.

written to traverse the model and generate code, perform analyses, or
execute the model. The tool supports complex model analysis using Prolog;
Java, OCL, and Prolog constraints, remote model updating via CORBA,
applying CSS styles to models, model-to-model linking, exportable
templates, and more.

separate MySQL installation.

Changes: Firefox integration has been prepared. Gnuaccounting now allows
for importing from Karm (the time tracker) and exporting to Winston (the
German electronic tax declaration). The "export accounts" feature now
supports periods, and cross platform rendering has been improved. When
creating a transaction, it's now possible to choose a date. The template
designer now allows a signe template for header, items, and footer. Bugs
were fixed in Moneyplex import and in the accounting logic. A workaround

[027] - GtkDatabox 0.8.2.0
  by Roland Bock (http://freshmeat.net/users/rbock/)
  Sun, Dec 9th 2007 16:53

Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization
Software Development :: Widget Sets

About: GtkDatabox is a widget for the GTK+ library designed to display
large amounts of numerical data quickly and easily. It allows for one or
more data sets of thousands of data points (X and Y coordinates) to be
displayed and updated in split seconds. It offers the ability to zoom into
and out of the data, and to navigate through your data by scrolling. In
addition to rulers and a simple coordinate cross, it allows you to add one
(or even more) configurable grids like on an oscilloscope. Data may be
presented as dots, lines connecting the data, or vertical bars. The widget
allows you to easily transform pixel coordinates into data coordinates,
thus allowing you to easily create powerful applications for data
analysis.

Changes: Support for Glade has been added. The API has been changed for
selection signals. It has also been modified where value pairs (like
top-left) are involved. The changes should minimize possible confusion and
reduce the required application code.

[036] - libev 1.72
  by Marc A. Lehmann (http://freshmeat.net/users/pcg1/)
  Sun, Dec 9th 2007 05:55

Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Libraries :: Perl Modules
System :: Networking

About: Libev is a high-performance event loop for C (with optional and
separate interfaces for C++ and Perl), featuring support for I/O, timers
(relative and absolute, cron-like ones), signals, process status changes,
and other types of events. It has both a fast native API and libevent
emulation to support programs written using the libevent API. The libev
distribution consists of libevent with the core event handling parts
replaced by the libev embedded event loop. Differences to libevent include
higher speed, simpler design, more features, less memory usage,
embedability, and no arbitrary limits. libev supports epoll, kqueue,
Solaris event ports, poll, and select.

Changes: The priority system has been finalised and documented. The C++
callback system has been redesigned: C++ method callbacks do not take up
any more memory than C callbacks and can even be inlined into the thunking
code now. Static methods and functions are now also supported by ev++. Two
new functions (ev_clear_pending and ev_invoke) have been added to support
easier integration of other event loops (such as glib). The documentation
has been vastly improved with many additional examples.

[038] - Long Range ZIP 0.19
  by Con Kolivas (http://freshmeat.net/users/conman/)
  Sun, Dec 9th 2007 17:01

System :: Archiving :: Compression

About: LRZIP is a compression program that can achieve very high
compression ratios and speed when used with large files. It uses the
combined compression algorithms of lzma for maximum compression, lzo for
maximum speed, and the long range redundancy reduction of rzip. It is
designed to scale with increases with RAM size, improving compression
further. A choice of either size or speed optimizations allows for either
better compression than even lzma can provide, or better speed than gzip,
but with bzip2 sized compression levels.

Changes: Numerous updates. lzma hanging on incompressible data has been
fixed with improved lzo testing. An output directory option, a greater
verbosity option, a decompression progress indicator, and nice support
have been added. There are numerous minor fixes.

[040] - massXpert mass spectrometry package 1.6.7
  by filippo rusconi (http://freshmeat.net/users/FilippoRusconi/)
  Sun, Dec 9th 2007 12:02

Education
Scientific/Engineering :: Bioinformatics
Scientific/Engineering :: Chemistry

About: The massXpert software package is a mass spectrometry environment
for linear (bio-)polymers. It inherits all the innovations of GNU
polyxmass. It allows the detailed definition of new polymer chemistries in
the XpertDef module. These chemistry definitions are then used in the
desktop calculator-like mass calculator (XpertCalc) and in the
sophisticated polymer sequence editor and (bio-)chemical/mass
spectrometric simulations module (XpertEdit). Available simulations
include polymer and monomer chemical modifications, polymer sequence
cleavage, gas-phase fragmentation, m/z ratio calculations, and more.

Changes: This release fixes a bug with the calculation of polymer net
charges given a pH. The bug would not show up at each calculation. pI
calculations were also affected. The project has been converted from the
qmake build system to the more powerful CMake build system, which is
portable and can build the software for all the Qt-supported platforms.
Note that the documentation still does not reflect the conversion.

[059] - PyEphem 3.7.2.2
  by brandonrhodes (http://freshmeat.net/users/brandonrhodes/)
  Sun, Dec 9th 2007 16:58

Scientific/Engineering :: Astronomy
Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules

About: PyEphem provides scientific-grade astronomical computations for the
Python programming language. Given an arbitrary date and location on Earth,
it can compute the positions of the sun, moon, and planets as well as any
asteroids, comets, or earth satellites whose orbital elements the user can
provide. There are additional functions for computing the angular
separation between two objects in the sky, determining the constellation
in which an object lies, and finding the times at which an object rises,
transits, and sets on a particular day.

Changes: This release provides functions for finding the phases of the
moon, and has a modest database of world cities so that people living in
them can avoid having to type in their longitude and latitude manually for
location-specific operations. Some constants omitted from the previous
version are back, and extensive documentation has been added about the
different flavors of coordinate that PyEphem bodies make available when
you ask them their position.

mechanism, and high-dimensional plotting, and provides an easy-to-use
extension mechanism that makes it possible to integrate new operators and
adapt the system to your personal requirements. A command line version is
also included.

Changes: This version provides about 30 bugfixes, together with a set of
new features, including a huge reduction of needed memory, new
visualization techniques for association rules, and improved rule and tree
learners. The connection to databases was improved, and about 10 new
operators were added. The bugfixes include the wizard and building block
bug introduced in version 4.0 and several database connection bugs
(especially for connections to the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 database).

System :: Networking

About: Scannedonly is a samba VFS module that ensures that only files that
have been scanned for viruses are visible and accessible to the end user.
Scannedonly was developed because of scalability problems with
samba-vscan. Scannedonly comes in two parts: a Samba VFS module and (one
or more) daemons. The daemon scans files and marks them when they are
known to be clean. The samba module simply filters out files that aren't
marked clean.

  Sun, Dec 9th 2007 06:55

Information Management :: Metadata/Semantic Models
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Browsers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search

About: SRESI is a smart bookmark manager. It currently sports both a
command-line and a PHP interface. It works with both the standard
hierarchical trees and the new and fashionable tagged bookmarks. It was
developed as a way to interface both representation systems. SRESI can use
Del.icio.us, Mozilla, Opera, and XBEL bookmarks, and handles a few more
exports besides. Directories and tags are used equivalently, and the final
hierarchies are inferred from actual tag use.

Changes: The missing paths bug has been fixed. The Tag interface was
simplified. Tree and Portal have been fused into a Hierarchy functor.
Trees can now distinguish between hint-based branches and free ones.
Neither portal nor actual output use this at this time.

[073] - Test-AutoBuild 1.2.1
  by Daniel Berrange (http://freshmeat.net/users/danielpb/)
  Sun, Dec 9th 2007 16:58

Software Development :: Quality Assurance
Software Development :: Testing

About: Test-AutoBuild is a framework for performing continuous,
unattended, automated software builds. It pulls code from source control
repositories (CVS, Perforce, GNU Arch, Subversion, SVK, and Mercurial are
supported), calculates inter-module dependencies, builds each module, and
then generates HTML status pages, copies binary packages to Web/FTP server
roots, and sends email status alerts. It is written with flexibility and
extensibility in mind to make it easy to integrate with a wide range of
development tools and languages.

Changes: The SCM checkout process is rewritten so that failures in
checking out a module do not cause the entire build engine to abort.
Failing modules are skipped and SCM logs made available for inspection on
the HTML status pages. Other minor portability/stability bugfixes are
included, in particular for portability to non-Linux platforms.

[079] - yet another pak 1.1
  by lacos (http://freshmeat.net/users/lacos/)
  Sun, Dec 9th 2007 06:19

Security :: Cryptography
Utilities

About: Pak transfers multiple, possibly very big, regular files between
possibly different hosts you have shell access to. It transmits segment
IDs instead of file names and uses on-the-fly Blowfish-CBC encryption
while being absolutely restartable with practically no loss of data
already transmitted. Encrypted pak streams can be stored in intermediary
regular files on untrusted hosts. Several stored pak streams, even
truncated ones, can be merged for re-piping without decryption. Integrity
is never checked. File offsets of any magnitude are supported via
recompilation (the default width is 64 bits). Either UNIX 95 or UNIX 98
conformance is required and sufficient.

Changes: The programs "pak" and "pakmerge" were modified to flush stdout
before printing "segment done" messages to stderr. ("Paksplit" and "upak"
already did this for output files.) This way, whenever the user sees a
"segment done" message, she can be sure that even the last chunk of the
segment was passed to the kernel via write().
