[001] - abcm2ps 5.7.0 (Development)
  by Guido Gonzato (http://freshmeat.net/users/goccia/)
  Mon, Dec 10th 2007 07:16

Printing

About: abcm2ps is a package that converts music tunes from ABC format to
PostScript. Based on abc2ps version 1.2.5, it was developed mainly to
print baroque organ scores that have independant voices played on one or
more keyboards, and a pedal-board. It introduces many extensions to the
ABC language that make it suitable for classical music.

Changes: This release introduces better handling of %%staves within music
lines, and fixes some bugs.

[004] - benerator 0.3.04
  by Volker Bergmann (http://freshmeat.net/users/vbergmann/)
  Mon, Dec 10th 2007 13:36

Software Development :: Testing

About: benerator is a framework for creating realistic and valid
high-volume test data, used for testing (unit/integration/load) and
showcase setup. Metadata constraints are imported from systems and/or
configuration files. Data can imported from and exported to files and
systems, anonymized, or generated from scratch. Domain packages provide
reusable generators for creating domain-specific data such as names and
addresses, internationalizable in language and region. benerator is
strongly customizable with plugins and configuration options.

Changes: JDBC performance was optimized for bulk operation and LAN access:
Oracle performance on dev hardware now is 15,000 rows/sec (for local
access) or 5,000 rows/sec (via LAN). A new tool allows for creating a
database snapshot in (DbUnit) XML format. With adding support for CLOB,
BLOB, and Oracle timezone types, all common SQL column types are
available. New DB key generator classes provide for efficient
multi-client-data generation.

System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Archiving :: Mirroring

About: Clonezilla is a partition or disk cloning tool similar to Symantec
Ghost. It saves and restores only blocks in use on the hard drive if the
file system is supported. For unsupported file systems, dd is used
instead. It has been used to clone a 5 GB system to 40 clients in about 10
minutes.

Changes: In this release, some new functions and programs were added. The
kernel was updated to 2.6.22-3. GPT (GUID Partition Table) partitions are
supported now. Intel Mac cloning using dd was added. (This is still in
beta status.) Some programs were added, such as ethtool, wodim, cdrecord,
and net-tools. Some minor bugs were fixed.

[015] - Free-SA 1.4.2
  by Sapon Oleg (http://freshmeat.net/users/xsaper/)
  Mon, Dec 10th 2007 14:22

Internet :: Log Analysis

About: Free-SA is tool for statistical analysis of daemons' log files,
similar to SARG. Its main advantages over SARG are much better speed
(7x-20x), more support for reports, and W3C compliance of generated
HTML/CSS reports. It can be used to help control traffic usage, to control
Internet access security policies, to investigate security incidents, to
evaluate server efficiency, and to detect troubles with configuration.

Changes: A bug with incorrect parameters parsing on Apache has been fixed
(not security related). Table row color interlacing via a JavaScript
routine has been added. Extended POSIX regular expressions support for
filter policies has been added. Meta 'robots' with 'noindex,nofollow'
content to meet the recommendations of squid developers have been added to
all HTML reports. Syslog-based logs report 2007 as the year now, not 2006.
The experimental status for the 'user_unescape' option has been dropped.
The count of supported codes has been expanded to 620, and a codes array
overflow check has been added.

  Mon, Dec 10th 2007 07:11

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Analysis
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Editors
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: MIDI

About: Freecycle is a beat slicer providing amplitude domain and frequency
domain beat matching and zero crossing algorithms. It exports sliced audio
chunks and generates a MIDI file which can be used to play the sliced
loop. Alternatively, you can jam with it as soon as you've made slices
using a MIDI keyboard or sequencer. Freecycle also exports AKAI
S5000/S6000/Z4/Z8 .AKP files to be used with your favorite sampler,
SoundFont files, and supports slice drag and drop from the application to
the desktop. It can process the audio inline using LADSPA effects, as well
as applying envelopes to seperate slices.

Changes: The bugs on 64-bit platforms were solved. The source code was
made GCC 4.3 friendly. The naming schema on slice export was changed.
Minor bugs were fixed.

[017] - FreeDup 1.2-1

  Mon, Dec 10th 2007 14:16

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Analysis
System :: Archiving :: Compression
System :: Filesystems

About: Freedup finds and eliminates duplicate files by linking them
(deduplication), and thus reduces the amount of used disk space within one
or more file systems. By default, hardlinks are used on a single device,
symbolic links when the devices differ. A set of options allows you to
modify the methods of file comparison, the hash functions, the linking
behavior, and the reporting style. You may use batch or interactive mode.
Freedup usually only considers identical files, but when comparing audio
or graphics files, you may elect to ignore the tags.

Changes: Since there are so many options, this release tries to simplify
their handling. First, now you can use long options. Second, you are able
to store your favourite options and retrieve later again by a name you
like. The basedir option is needed to take full use of the stored
environments. A third new option is a kind of fuzzy date matching, i.e.
times must not be identical, but within an accepted range. This helps when
due to network copies or other reasons the timestamps vary by a second or
more. Man pages, etc are updated as well. Some unreported and rare bugs
were fixed.

Desktop Environment :: Tools
System :: Installation/Setup
System :: Software Distribution Tools

About: Rally is a fast GuiLoader-based front end for RPM. It provides RPM
package management functionality via an intuitive tree-less graphical
interface. Users are able to browse available repositories, search for
packages, and perform updates, installations, and removals. Rally employs
Parallel Installer, which downloads and updates packages simultaneously,
potentially reaching a vast performance boost. Rally is a part of the Crow
Designer project, and was started as a sample GuiLoader-based application.

Changes: Unnecessary installations of "compat" packages during upgrade
were fixed. The problem in which the rpmdb cache may be updated even if
there were no transactions was fixed. The downloader now follows HTTP
redirects correctly. The problem in which "obsoleting" is
family-dependent, which allows file conflicts during upgrade, was fixed.
"Full throttle" mode now should work without file conflicts on multilib
architectures. Dependency resolver optimizations were done, increasing
Parallel Installer efficiency.

  Mon, Dec 10th 2007 14:29

Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Interpreters

About: Seed7 is a general purpose programming language. It is a higher
level language compared to Ada, C++, and Java. In Seed7, new statements
and operators can be declared easily. Functions with type results and type
parameters are more elegant than a template or generics concept. Object
orientation is used when it brings advantages and not in places when other
solutions are more obvious. Although Seed7 contains several concepts of
other programming languages, it is generally not considered as a direct
descendant of any other programming language.

Changes: The interpreter was improved to flag match errors only once
instead of multiple times. The graph.s7i library was improved to define
the type pointList and the function genPointList. The functions polyLine
and fpolyLine were added to the draw.s7i library. The functions pos and
isDigitString were added to the seed7_05.s7i library. Several test cases
were added to the chkint.sd7 and chkstr.sd7 programs. The
drwSetTransparentColor function was added to drw_x11.c . An analog clock
program (clock3.sd7) provided by Volker Schuller was added. The compiler

allows the programmer to do so herself. It provides many features, such as
the automatic detection and handling of paragraphs and the ability to apply
different so-called parser functions to different portions of the text that
is to be parsed.

Changes: Two bugs have been fixed, the first concerning incorrect
behaviour in case insensitive mode, and the second causing

to misbehave. The license was changed to the liberal

Database :: API
Database :: Database Engines/Servers
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: Valentina is cross-platform DBMS that makes it easy to switch
between a local embedded database and server using the same sources. It
supports disk and in-memory databases, field types from Bit to BLOB, and
both a SQL92(99) and non-SQL API. Valentina supports Relational, Extended
Navigational, and Object-Relational data models. It introduces a
revolutionary model abstraction "Link". It works natively in UTF-16, can
accept 270 encodings, and features advanced features such as regular
expressions, XML, full-text search, pictures, functions, and calculated
fields. It offers triggers, views, and stored procedures.

Changes: The speed of client-side cursors was improved by over 30 times.
Server-side cursors without changes were added. About 20 more fixes and
improvements were made in Valentina Studio. A GUI application is able to
manage LOCAL and REMOTE Valentina databases.
