[001] - Arno's IPTABLES Firewall Script 1.9.0-alpha2
  by Arno (http://freshmeat.net/users/arnova/)
  Tue, Dec 18th 2007 05:14

System :: Networking
System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: Arno's IPTABLES Firewall Script is a secure stateful firewall for
both single and multi-homed machines. It supports NAT and SNAT, port
forwarding, ADSL ethernet modems with both static and dynamically assigned
IPs, MAC address filtering, stealth port scan detection, DMZ support,
protection against SYN/ICMP flooding, experimental IPv6 support,
multi-interface/aliased-IP support, and extensive user definable logging
with rate limiting to prevent log flooding. It has plugin support to add
extra features (like SSH Brute Force protection and (Racoon) IPSEC
support). It is easy to configure and highly customizable. A filter script
that makes your firewall log more readable is also included.

Changes: ICMPv6 types were fixed. Separate variables were implemented for
the iptables and ip6tables binaries. Instead of selecting the binary
itself, IPv6 support can now be enabled/disabled via the IPV6_SUPPORT
variable. Several bugs in IPv6 support were fixed. The "old"
IPV6_OVER_IPV4 was moved to a plugin. Host blocking is now applied for all
interfaces. ICMP flooding was changed from 20/sec max to 60/sec max.
Support was added for aliased external interfaces. The HOST_ output
logging rules were fixed. There were also miscellaneous bugfixes and
changes.

[005] - Big Medium 2.0 (Stable)
  by Josh Clark (http://freshmeat.net/users/joshclark/)
  Tue, Dec 18th 2007 10:30

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: Big Medium is a content management system aimed squarely at Web
designers who want a CMS that enables extremely flexible designs but
remains easy to set up without programming skills. The software does not
impose cookie-cutter layouts: If you bring basic to intermediate HTML/CSS
know-how, Big Medium can manage just about any design you throw at it.
Once the designer configures the templates, he or she can hand the site
over to content editors; no technical know-how is required to add or edit
pages. Big Medium's friendly, humane interface is easy and non-threatening
for CMS newbies.

Changes: This version shares Big Medium's original spirit of friendly,
humane software, but it's otherwise a whole new app from the ground up. A
few highlights include an elegant new interface, image galleries and
slideshows, automatic image sizing, content version control, site search,
scheduled publication, podcasting, visitor comments, granular editing
privileges, a WYSIWYG CSS editor, copying of content between sites,
unlimited subsection depth, and the ability to share/reuse images and
documents.

System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration

About: NagiosAppender is a pure Java implementation of a Log4j appender
that allows the developer/administrator to send log records to Nagios via
the NCSA server (using the push model). It provides a simple solution for
Nagios administrators whose only alternative is to implement a polling
function against against the output of a standard Log4j appender. The
log4j configuration file provides for user-specific mappings between Log4j
levels and Nagios levels. The configuration file also allows the user to
select whether to set the Nagios 'service' and 'host' programmatically via
Log4j MDC, or via the config file. Later releases support XOR encryption.

Changes: This release adds support for a configurable startup message. It
adds support for embedding the canonical hostname into message layout. The
sample log4j.properties file has been cleaned up to demonstrate
functionality.

[034] - SRR Module 1.4.37
  by imipak (http://freshmeat.net/users/imipak/)
  Tue, Dec 18th 2007 10:33

System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux
Utilities

About: The SRR Module (srripc) is a synchronous message-passing module for
the Linux kernel versions 2.2.x, 2.4.x, and 2.6.x. This module provides
synchronous message passing among processes and threads, queued
asynchronous event notification (proxies), timed delivery of proxies and
signals, triggering of proxies between tasks, and user-space interrupt
handling. Synchronous message passing is a fast, flexible, and robust IPC
mechanism, particularly useful for building modular systems. The SRR
Module installs automatically and provides an API that allows for porting
of applications between QNX and Linux.

Changes: This release changes the work handlers to match changes made in
version 2.6.20 of the Linux kernel. Module compilation has been fixed.
Support has been added for messages larger than 3 MBytes. Workarounds have
been added for udev issues. Potential timer IRQ race conditions have been
fixed. Spinlocks have been replaced with mutexes where swapping is
allowed. Relay functions have been added. clock_getres() has been
implemented. Unnecessary OOPS messages have been removed. The Sendmx()
return value has been fixed.

Office/Business :: Financial
Office/Business :: Scheduling

About: TimeTrex is a complete Web-based payroll and time management suite
that offers employee scheduling, time and attendance (timeclock,
timesheet/timecard), job costing, invoicing, and payroll in a single
package. Employees can use Web browsers or timeclocks to track their time

to flagged timesheet errors. Payroll administrators can quickly generate
paystubs and process payroll based off timesheet information or export
timesheet data to other applications.

Changes: This release contains additional overtime policies (consecutive
days worked) and premium policies (hours worked without breaks) to better
support California labor laws. It also contains hour based accrual
policies, improved employee exception handling, email notifications,

[038] - WebCert 1.7.0
  by Frank4DD (http://freshmeat.net/users/Frank4DD/)
  Tue, Dec 18th 2007 06:50

Security
Security :: Cryptography

About: WebCert is a Web application to generate and manage digital
certificates in cases where no "full" CA is needed. It is very handy for
those who need a cert quickly and don't have the hang of the OpenSSL
command line. It is very easy to deploy and to use.

Changes: Generation of S/MIME certificates is fully supported. The new
certexport.cgi convienently converts an existing PEM certificate into
either DER or PKCS12 format. The certsearch.cgi function has been expanded
to filter certificates by their serial number. The [Go Back] button in
genrequest.cgi now correctly refers back to buildrequest.cgi instead of
pointing to certrequest.cgi. The latest CGI were missing in the top level
Makefile. The REQLEN parameter was too small for certificates with a 4096
bit key. A minor display bug in the HTML table of getcert.cgi was fixed.
