Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Writing
System :: Archiving

About: cdrtools (formerly cdrecord) creates home-burned CDs/DVDs with a
CDR/CDRW/DVD recorder. It works as a burn engine for several applications.
It supports CD/DVD recorders from many different vendors; all SCSI-3/mmc-
and ATAPI/mmc-compliant drives should also work. Supported features
include IDE/ATAPI, parallel port, and SCSI drives, audio CDs, data CDs,
and mixed CDs, full multi-session support, CDRWs (rewritable), DVD-R/-RW,
DVD+R/+RW, TAO, DAO, RAW, and human-readable error messages. cdrtools
includes remote SCSI support and can access local or remote CD/DVD
writers.

Changes: cdrecord now rechecks media sizes after a blank/format command to
avoid problems with media size assumptions. cdrecord now implements a
"blank" simulation for media that does not support the blank command (like
DVD-RAM and DVD+RW). A bug in mkisofs with UDF files larger than 4 GB was
fixed.

Information Management
Information Management :: Records Management

About: enetman is a network asset management Web application written in
PHP with a MySQL backend. Its intended use is to maintain a structured
list of servers that can be cross referenced by location, manufacturer,
vendor, CPU, and OS. It allows for a user to create and maintain
locations, manufacturers, and vendors along with contact names and phone
numbers to each. It contains a device log that tracks issues that servers
have had, a list of network ports on the server along with IP information
(IP, subnet, gateway, DNS, network card make/model and MAC) for each port
(this includes aliased ports), and a software manager that keeps tabs on
expiration dates of software. It enables the user to create a directory
tree with files that can then be attached to locations, vendors,
manufacturers, software, or servers. It maintains a list of all software
installed on a server and how many licenses are allocated to it. A Perl
script run from cron emails users when a license is about to expire.

Changes: This release fixes secunia alert SA26656. It adds validation for
page variables.

  Thu, Jan 3rd 2008 10:03

Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: The MiniUPnP project is a library and a daemon. The library is
aimed to enable applications to use the capabilities of a UPnP Internet
Gateway Device present on the network to forward ports. The daemon adds
the UPnP Internet Gateway Device functionality to a NAT gateway running
OpenBSD/NetBSD/FreeBSD/Solaris with PF/IPF or Linux 2.4.x/2.6.x with
netfilter. One of its most interesting features is to enforce some
permissions to allow or deny redirections, bringing some security to UPnP.
Newer versions also support the NAT-PMP protocol from Apple.

Changes: The daemon now supports ALTQ within PF, and NAT-PMP support has
been cleaned up. The error reporting in the client has been improved.

[018] - NetSPoC 3.1
  by Heinz Knutzen (http://freshmeat.net/users/heinzknutzen/)
  Thu, Jan 3rd 2008 02:33

Security
System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: The Network Security Policy Compiler (NetSPoC) is a tool for
security management of large computer networks with different security
domains. It generates configuration files for packet filters controlling
the borders of security domains. It provides its own language for
describing security policy and the topology of a network. The security
policy is a set of rules that state which packets are allowed to pass the
network and which are not. NetSPoC is topology aware; a rule for traffic
from A to B is automatically applied to all managed packet filters on the
path from A to B.

Changes: The rule set can be better adapted to stateful and stateless
devices. New "automatic" groups can be used for simpler definition of
similar rules which affect a large set of objects. Loopback interfaces and
negotiated interfaces are now supported. Support for Cisco VPN 3000 devices
has been added, but currently isn't well documented. More checks are done
to prevent an inconsistent configuration. There are many other
improvements and some bugfixes.

Communications
Desktop Environment
Software Development

About: NoMachine NX is a fast terminal server and desktop virtualization
system based on the X11 protocol. NX is an order of magnitude faster than
VNC or X11 and can run on bandwidth as narrow as 10 kBit/sec. In addition,
NX translates and embeds the MS Windows Terminal Server and VNC protocols
into X/NX, enabling users to compress and accelerate remote Windows and
VNC sessions. The NX project provides a suite of libraries and X11proxying
agents implementing efficient compression and optimized transport of X11,
SMB, IPP, HTTP, and arbitrary protocols like audio and video over the
Internet.

Changes: The new packages, besides providing NX Client 3.1.0, consolidate
all the fixes made during the 3.0.0 maintenance. An issue where the
progress bar may not have been synchronized with the time required for
downloading was fixed along with a problem where extracting the NX Plugin
and NX Web Companion could have been unable to restore a previous version
of the plugin if the update procedure fails.

parse a file containing the XML data from a separate scan, or parse a
string of XML data from a scan. This information is presented in a
(hopefully) easy to use fashion for storing and manipulation.

Changes: This release fixes a bug (typo) with the read accessor for the
MAC address information in ::Host (mac_addr and mac_vendor). It adds
extraports information via the ::Host::ExtraPorts class. It adds
devicetype, ostype, and the RPC lowver and highver to
::Host::Port::Service. It has updated and reworded documentation.

[032] - Sylbi 0.09
  by arbingersys (http://freshmeat.net/users/arbingersys/)
  Thu, Jan 3rd 2008 10:01

About: Sylbi is a conversation system that is not a forum and not a
blogging platform, but a combination of the two. It grew from the idea
that a blog with comments and a forum only differ in their perspective of
 the conversation. Both provide a chronological set of postings, initiated
by someone, and, (potentially) replied to by others. The main difference
is the perspective they present: a blog presents the perspective of the
blog owner(s), while a forum presents the perspective of the forum and a
topic defined in the forum. Sylbi allows you to look at conversations
either way.

Changes: This release adds reset user password functionality to the
administrator panel, and adds logic to prevent login if a user's status is
set to disabled.

[033] - System Configuration Collector 1.8.4 (Stable)
  by siem (http://freshmeat.net/users/scholtz/)
  Thu, Jan 3rd 2008 15:17

System :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration
Utilities

About: System Configuration Collector (SCC) is yet another configuration
collector. It consists of a client and a server part. The client collects
configuration data in a structured snapshot, compares the new snapshot
with the previous one, and adds differences to a logbook. Then the
snapshot and the logbook are converted to HTML for local inspection.
Optionally, the data can be sent to a system running the server software.
On the server, summaries of the data are generated, and search/compare
operations on the snapshots and logbooks are available via a Web
interface.

Changes: The broken NetBSD install has been corrected. There are native
install formats for DragonFlyBSD, ArchLinux, and ttylinux. The code has
been extended to avoid changes for interfaces with DHCP on several Linux
distributions. Many configuration files have been added to the collectors.

[036] - Tokyo Cabinet 1.1.7
  by Mikio Hirabayashi (http://freshmeat.net/users/mikio/)
  Thu, Jan 3rd 2008 02:35

Database :: Database Engines/Servers
Software Development :: Libraries

About: Tokyo Cabinet is a library of routines for managing a database. It
is the successor of QDBM. Tokyo Cabinet runs very fast. For example, the
time required to store 1 million records is 1.5 seconds for a hash
database and 2.2 seconds for a B+ tree database. Moreover, the database
size is very small. For example, the overhead for a record is 16 bytes for
a hash database, and 5 bytes for a B+ tree database. Furthermore, the
scalability of Tokyo Cabinet is great. The database size can be up to 8EB.

Changes: OpenBSD is now supported. Date format functions were added.

Database :: API
Office/Business :: Financial :: Investment

About: The trading-shim is a database driven connector API that provides a
persistent store SQL backend database, translates operations to and from
the Interactive Brokers Java TWS API. It can act as an interpreter for
commands, and permits downstream clients to access several worldwide
securities markets and exchanges (stocks, options, futures, bonds, Forex)
for "tick" data and history (intraday, and EoD). It also allows clients to
supervise trades of securities and more.

Changes: This release implements the "what" command to query for execution
reports. The format is: what Sym Date Time; where Sym is the name of the
underlying, Date is yyyymmdd, and time is currently a dummy, with the
actual value sent clamped to 00:00:00. A new internal test suite allows
parallel release testing of all external variants on Debian testing,
CentOS 5 (i386 and x86_64), and Apple OS X PowerPC.
