[001] - abcm2ps 5.7.2 (Development)
  by Guido Gonzato (http://freshmeat.net/users/goccia/)
  Thu, Jan 10th 2008 03:45

Printing

About: abcm2ps is a package that converts music tunes from ABC format to
PostScript. Based on abc2ps version 1.2.5, it was developed mainly to
print baroque organ scores that have independant voices played on one or
more keyboards, and a pedal-board. It introduces many extensions to the
ABC language that make it suitable for classical music.

Changes: Bad PostScript output and a program crash on multi-column
sequences were corrected.

Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules
System :: Boot
System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions

About: Cobbler is a Linux provisioning server that supports PXE network
installation, virtualization (Xen and KVM), and reinstallations of running
Linux systems. The latter two features are enabled by a client side program
called ’koan’. Various features include DVD/rsync tree imports, integrated
yum repository mirroring, zeroconf discovery, advanced kickstart
templating, and remote installation logging. Cobbler supports RHEL4+,
Fedora Core 5+, and derivative distributions.

Changes: Better rsync permissions are kept on "cobbler reposync". The name
changes in F8 required for "cobbler import" to import that distribution
correctly are now understood. A way to disable VNC graphics in Koan has
returned. Support for 0 size virtual disks was added. Provisioning Xen in
fullvirt mode is supported. (Previously, fullvirt required KVM.)

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players :: MP3

About: Cymbaline is a learning music player. It sets a score for each
track based on your listening habits, and you can set thresholds to create
playlists with your favorite tracks automatically. In random mode, it will
play your favorite tracks more often. It also allows album-based
navigation: you can start playing the next album, skip 2 albums ahead, go
to a specific album, etc. It has a random queue mode where you see a list
of randomly chosen tracks that play consecutively. The queue is also built
based on song scores.

Changes: A random queue startup bug was fixed. The gom mixer is used
instead of aumix (because aumix is broken in Ubuntu). ALSA is used instead
of OSS in the Pymad player engine. Loading of .ogg and .mod files was
disabled because they're not played by Pymad.

[018] - GNU ddrescue 1.8-pre2 (Development)
  by Antonio Diaz Diaz (http://freshmeat.net/users/ant_diaz/)
  Thu, Jan 10th 2008 11:25

System :: Recovery Tools

About: GNU ddrescue is a data recovery tool. It copies data from one file
or block device (hard disc, cdrom, etc) to another, trying hard to rescue
data in case of read errors. GNU ddrescue does not truncate the output
file if not asked to. So, every time you run it on the same output file,
it tries to fill in the gaps. The basic operation of GNU ddrescue is fully
automatic. That is, you don't have to wait for an error, stop the program,
read the log, run it in reverse mode, etc. If you use the logfile feature
of GNU ddrescue, the data is rescued very efficiently (only the needed
blocks are read). Also you can interrupt the rescue at any time and resume
it later at the same point.

Changes: The new option "--synchronous" has been added.

Office/Business :: Groupware

About: Inverse SOGo Integrator for Thunderbird is an extension that
transforms Thunderbird into a pure "heavy" client for SOGo. Whereas the
SOGo Connector is meant for portability, the SOGo Integrator provides
"vertical" integration with the SOGo groupware server by making use of the
specific features it provides. The general features provided are: remote
administration of folder subscriptions, an automatic replication of user
folders and subscriptions, propagation of updates to chosen extensions
from a local update server, and propagation of default settings and
integrated GUI elements.

  Thu, Jan 10th 2008 03:21

Games/Entertainment :: Multi-User Dungeons (MUD)

About: JamochaMUD offers Unicode, plug-in, and multi-language support (8
different languages) to allow a more enjoyable MUCKing/MUDding experience.
It features command history, synchronized window controls, experimental
SOCKS 5 support, and greatly improved ANSI colour support. It plays nice
on Unix systems, supports a wide range of MU*s, and also includes
emulation of some TinyFugue editor controls. JamochaMUD includes classes
that may be easily reused in other Java applications.

Changes: This version fixes problems with the user-configurable
definitions and variables (/def and /set) commands. URLs in the output
window are now underlined to give the user visual indication that they can
be activated. New code has been added to clean URLs, removing some common
MU* characters (such as quotation marks) before sending them to the Web
browser. A menu option has been implemented, allowing users to add a
current connection to their World Connector.

[030] - libviper 1.3.0
  by TragicWarrior (http://freshmeat.net/users/TragicWarrior/)
  Thu, Jan 10th 2008 15:53

Software Development :: Libraries

About: libviper is an API for quickly developing console, curses-based
interfaces with mouse support (GPM). It's a good alternative to the panels
library. The API preserves many of the familiar ncurses monikers. It also
provides, basic, GTK-like window signal handling.

Changes: The default state of newly created windows was set to NORESIZE.
When this bit is set, windows will not feature the "resize grip" in the
border. Ground work for multiple workspaces was incorporated and
predefined window management was moved out of the library in favor of a
better event framework. New callbacks were implemented for border
manipulation freeing, which allows "window-focus" and "window-unfocus"
events to be overridden without consequence. Trivial code clean-ups were
done.

[047] - rsyslog 3.10.1 (Development)
  by Rainer Gerhards (http://freshmeat.net/users/rgerhards/)
  Thu, Jan 10th 2008 06:55

System :: Logging

About: Rsyslog is an enhanced multi-threaded syslogd. Among other
features, it offers support for reliable syslog over TCP and RFC 3195,
writing to MySQL and PostgreSQL databases, fully configurable output
formats (including great timestamps), the ability to filter on any part of
the syslog message, and on-the-wire message compression. It is designed as
a drop-in replacement for stock syslogd and thus is able to work with the
same configuration file syntax. Of course, some enhanced features require
changing the configuration file, but in general, this should be fairly
easy.

Changes: This version is a bug fixing and minor feature enhancement
release. It fixes a race condition, some memory leaks, and some
documentation bugs of 3.10.0. Performance has also been somewhat improved.
Feature-wise, it offers a new disk queue mode, which in its current form is
of limited usefulness. In its current form, the disk queue is of advantage
for users who expect large queues, which can now be kept on disk. This
release is a recommended update for all users of the v3 series.
