[001] - Adaptive Quality of Service Architecture 1.0.0-rc2 (qosres)
by cucinotta (http://freshmeat.net/users/cucinotta/)
Fri, Jan 11th 2008 16:02
Multimedia
System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux
About: AQuoSA is an open architecture for the provisioning of adaptive
Quality of Service functionality into the Linux kernel. The project
features a flexible, portable, and lightweight software architecture for
supporting QoS-related services on top of a general-purpose operating
system as Linux. The architecture is well founded on formal scheduling
analysis and control theoretical results. At the core of the software is
an adaptive Resource Reservation layer that is capable of dynamically
adapting the CPU allocation for QoS-aware applications based on their
run-time requirements.
Changes: A few configuration-related bugs have been fixed.

[003] - ATA over Ethernet driver 57 (For Linux 2.6)
by Ed Cashin at Coraid (http://freshmeat.net/users/ecashinCoraid/)
Fri, Jan 11th 2008 10:27
System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Archiving :: Mirroring
System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux
About: This driver allows the Linux kernel to use the ATA over Ethernet
(AoE) network protocol. Using AoE, a Linux system can use AoE block
devices like EtherDrive (R) storage blades. The block devices appear as
local device nodes (e.g. /dev/etherd/e0.0).
Changes: The size of the data payload in each AoE packet is now exported
for each AoE target. Various code cleanups were performed to bring the
driver closer to the kernel.org driver.

System
System :: Archiving :: Backup
About: The ATA over Ethernet Tools are intended for use in conjunction
with an ATA over Ethernet (AoE) driver for a Linux 2.6 kernel. They
perform simple tasks like listing available devices, triggering device
discovery, and restricting the network interfaces on which AoE is
performed.
Changes: Support was added for the new payload size information exported
by aoe6-57 and up. The aoe-flush command in aoetools-22 had a regression
that caused it not to work properly without arguments. That bug was fixed.
The aoecfg man page had a typo in the options section that was fixed.

[006] - Blitz templates for PHP 0.5.9
by Alexey Rybak (http://freshmeat.net/users/alexeyrybak/)
Fri, Jan 11th 2008 10:25
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
About: Blitz templates is a fast PHP template engine written in C and
compiled as a PHP extension. It started as a php_templates replacement,
but developed into much more. It is based on extensible template
controllers (custom view classes in PHP) and weakly-active templates
(simple logic in HTML). Benchmarks show that it is one of the fastest
template engines for PHP, even though it's not trivial and makes Web
application closer to a smart MVC-like architecture model with maximal
separation of HTML from your code. It was designed for big high-load
Internet projects with a lot of complex presentation logic.
Changes: The new configuration parameter blitz.disable_include disables
include in templates when set to 1 (0 by default). Calling internal
methods (like parse() or context()) is not allowed in a template body.
Variables can be used without var_prefix in method calls, i.e. {{
do(something) }} is equal to {{ do($something) }}. Boolean predicates in
if statements were fixed. Minor changes were made in the documentation.

[010] - email-reminder 0.7.1
by Francois Marier (http://freshmeat.net/users/fmarier/)
Fri, Jan 11th 2008 13:31
Communications :: Email
Office/Business :: Scheduling
About: Email-reminder allows users to define events that they want to be
reminded of by email. Possible events include birthdays, anniversaries,
and yearly events. Reminders can be sent on the day of the event and a few
days beforehand. It uses a cron job to checks for events and send reminders
once a day, and a simple GUI that allows users to edit the reminders they
want to receive.
Changes: This version adds a (somewhat important) warning message when the
configuration file (/etc/email-reminder.conf) cannot be read. Some people
reported problems with their settings being ignored, and the cause of that
problem was that the user running send-reminders didn't have read
permissions on the config file.

About: GvGen is a Python class to generate dot files to use with graphviz.
You simply create your nodes, connect them together, set your parents, and
apply graphviz properties, styles, default styles, etc. to produce a
graphviz dot file for input with dot or neato.
Changes: A serious tricky-working way to deal with graphviz and a legend
was added. A bug that manifested when dealing with multiple parents
containing multiple children was fixed. Nodes are now correctly named
after the pattern "nodeN" instead of "edgeN". When creating a new graph,
the first parameter is the legend and not the options for your graph.
Beware that this change breaks the API.

[029] - NVnetbackup 1.20
by marredduck (http://freshmeat.net/users/marredduck/)
Fri, Jan 11th 2008 10:33
Information Management
System
System :: Archiving
About: NVnetbackup (Not Veritas netbackup) is a simple backup system
framework for data in an SMB/CIFS networked environment. It can also be
used for backing up local data. The primary focus of this system is the
simple selection of data to be backed up and the security of said data. It
is also very portable because it relies on common Linux tools and its
behavior is controlled entirely by a single and simple configuration file.
Changes: There have been many changes since the last update on freshmeat.
Most notably, there was a seemingly random bug that would cause some
shares to appear to be mounted when in fact they were not and vice-versa.
This has been fixed.

[030] - OpenAFS 1.5.30 (Development)
by Edgester (http://freshmeat.net/users/edgester/)
Fri, Jan 11th 2008 10:19
Communications :: File Sharing
System :: Filesystems
About: AFS is a distributed filesystem which offers a client-server
architecture, transparent data migration abilities, scalability, a single
namespace, and integrated ancillary subsystems.
Changes: These problems have been fixed: A buffer reference count leak was
introduced in 1.5.29. It would cause the cache to fill, then no additional
data would be read, nor written. PTS auto-registration would fail if the
Kerberos referrals protocol was used to obtain the Kerberos v5 service
ticket for AFS. (This would occur if KFW 3.2.x was installed and there was
no [domain_realm] entry for the AFS volume database service host domains.)
After a system resume or a network adapter configuration change,
communication with the AFS client service could be lost.

Fri, Jan 11th 2008 15:59
Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Logging
About: Pantheios is a C/C++ logging API library. It offers an optimal
combination of complete type-safety, very high efficiency, genericity, and
extensibility. It is simple to use and extend, highly portable (platform
and compiler independent), and it upholds the C tradition of only paying
for what you use. Pantheios supports logging of message statements of
arbitrary complexity, consisting of heterogenous types. Pantheios supports
filtering of log messages based on severity level.
Changes: This release changes befe.test to be.test to facilitate increased
flexibility in testing with any front-end.

[037] - sba 1.4
by Manolis Lourakis (http://freshmeat.net/users/lourakis/)
Fri, Jan 11th 2008 10:29
Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Image Recognition
About: sba is a generic sparse bundle adjustment C/C++ library based on
the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm. Bundle adjustment is almost invariably
used as the last step of every feature-based multiple view reconstruction
vision algorithm to obtain optimal 3D structure and motion (i.e. camera
matrix) parameter estimates. Provided with initial estimates, BA
simultaneously refines motion and structure by minimizing the reprojection
error between the observed and predicted image points. sba is generic in
the sense that it grants the user full control over the definition of the
parameters describing cameras and 3D structure.
Changes: This release improves memory management by reusing memory among
certain computations. This reduces the total required memory size, and
reduces total execution time by improving locality. A MATLAB MEX file, has
been added, allowing sba to be used directly from MATLAB with user-defined
projection and Jacobian functions. The included Euclidean bundle
adjustment demo program has been improved: the unit norm property for the
rotation quaternions is explicitly enforced, and the option of refining
the intrinsic camera parameters in addition to the camera motions has been
added.
