[005] - Arno's IPTABLES Firewall Script 1.9.0-beta1
  by Arno (http://freshmeat.net/users/arnova/)
  Thu, Jan 17th 2008 02:09

System :: Networking
System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: Arno's IPTABLES Firewall Script is a secure stateful firewall for
both single and multi-homed machines. It supports NAT and SNAT, port
forwarding, ADSL ethernet modems with both static and dynamically assigned
IPs, MAC address filtering, stealth port scan detection, DMZ support,
protection against SYN/ICMP flooding, experimental IPv6 support,
multi-interface/aliased-IP support, and extensive user definable logging
with rate limiting to prevent log flooding. It has plugin support to add
extra features (like SSH Brute Force protection and (Racoon) IPSEC
support). It is easy to configure and highly customizable. A filter script
that makes your firewall log more readable is also included.

Changes: Setting of /proc/.../ conntrack was fixed for newer kernels. A
typo in $REJECT_TCP_NOLOG was corrected. DEFAULT values in the helper
parsing functions that were causing things like simple port forwards to
not work were fixed. Missing default values for the source hosts in the
NAT port forwards were fixed. Several regressions were fixed in the NAT
forwarding rules along with a regression bug in the module_probe()
function. Several regression fixes were made in the sanity_check()
interface. Minor cosmetic changes were made.

  Thu, Jan 17th 2008 14:58

Software Development :: Libraries

About: eventxx is a simple, direct, one-header inline C++ wrapper for
libevent. It's just one header file, so using it is just a matter of
copying it into a project. It's designed to be as close to using libevent
as possible without compromising modern C++ programming techniques and as
efficient as possible. Since all implementation is trivial and inline, it
theoretically imposes no overhead at all.

Changes: This release hides the dispatcher copy-constructor and operator=.
The main example in the documentation has been fixed. Some code cleanup has
been done. No new features are planned.

[029] - Open Computer Forensics Architecture 2.0.6pl3
  by klpd (http://freshmeat.net/users/klpd/)
  Thu, Jan 17th 2008 05:05

About: The Open Computer Forensics Architecture (OCFA) is a modular
computer forensics framework to automate the digital forensic process, to
speed up the investigation and give tactical investigators direct access
to the seized data through an easy to use search and browse interface. The
architecture forms an environment where existing forensic tools and
libraries can be easily plugged into the architecture and can thus be made
part of the recursive extraction of data and metadata from digital
evidence. It aims to be highly modular, robust, fault tolerant, recursive,
and scalable in order to be usable in large investigations that spawn
numerous terabytes of evidence data and cover hundreds of evidence items.

Changes: A bug was fixed in the indexer Web frontend. If you were having
problems with the frontend showing empty green pages, you should upgrade.

[030] - OpenDBX 1.2.4 (Stable)
  by Norbert Sendetzky (http://freshmeat.net/users/nsendetzky/)
  Thu, Jan 17th 2008 02:02

Database :: API
Software Development :: Libraries

About: The OpenDBX libraries provide a unified and consistent API for
software developers to different database management systems. The C and
C++ libraries aim to implement access to the native database interfaces
efficiently via a thin abstraction layer. They consist of a basic set of
functions that are part of all vendor database libraries and can be
extended by additional function blocks. Currently, Firebird/Interbase, MS
SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQLite 2 and 3, and Sybase ASE are
supported.

Changes: This bugfix release contains a backport from the development
branch which removes the automake dependency from the main OpenDBX header
file (odbx.h) and fixes the SYBDATETIME4 type definition in the mssql
backend. Furthermore it adds support for the SYBLONGCHAR and SYBLONGBINARY
types in the mssql backend. It also contains a fix in the regression test
program so that it will build on the latest Linux installations. The
documentation was updated.

[037] - Sylbi 0.10
  by arbingersys (http://freshmeat.net/users/arbingersys/)
  Thu, Jan 17th 2008 10:18

About: Sylbi is a conversation system that is not a forum and not a
blogging platform, but a combination of the two. It grew from the idea
that a blog with comments and a forum only differ in their perspective of
 the conversation. Both provide a chronological set of postings, initiated
by someone, and, (potentially) replied to by others. The main difference
is the perspective they present: a blog presents the perspective of the
blog owner(s), while a forum presents the perspective of the forum and a
topic defined in the forum. Sylbi allows you to look at conversations
either way.

Changes: This release adds an installation Perl script and instructions.
It creates a Sylbi database (optionally overwrites the existing one),
generates the schema, sets up the initial admin user, and generates
Config.pm. This has only been tested on Windows.

[039] - task spooler 0.5
  by viric (http://freshmeat.net/users/viric/)
  Thu, Jan 17th 2008 15:13

System

About: task spooler is a Unix batch system where the tasks spooled run one
after the other. Each user in each system has his own job queue. The tasks
are run in the correct context (that of enqueue) from any shell/process,
and its output/results can be easily watched. It is very useful when you
know that your commands depend on a lot of RAM, a lot of disk use, give a
lot of output, or for whatever reason it's better not to run them at the
same time.

Changes: This release is mostly bugfixes. It now creates a new session for
each program run, so the program PID identifies a whole process group
(allowing "kill -- -`ts -p`"). The tail command (-t) has been renewed, so
it finishes when the job finishes, similar to -w.

[040] - xmds 1.6.4
  by Paul Cochrane (http://freshmeat.net/users/paultcochrane/)
  Thu, Jan 17th 2008 02:05

Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Chemistry
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics

About: XMDS is a code generator that integrates equations. You write them
down in human readable form in an XML file, and it goes away and writes
and compiles a C++ program that integrates those equations as fast as it
can possibly be done in your architecture.

Changes: This release includes several bugfixes and the ability to assign
components as arrays. The updated documentation explains the new syntax in
the end of the 'More Examples' chapter, where the new feature is
demonstrated by the differences between highdim.xmds and
highdim_vector_version.xmds in the examples directory. Users are warned to
use EX algorithms when using this feature unless they understand exactly
what they're doing. The configuration mechanism has also seen a tidy up,
and there has been the addition of rudimentary support for visualization
using the R package.

[042] - Yakuake 2.8.1
  by Eike Hein (http://freshmeat.net/users/eikehein/)
  Thu, Jan 17th 2008 10:20

Desktop Environment :: K Desktop Environment (KDE)
Terminals :: Terminal Emulators/X Terminals

About: Yakuake is a Quake-style terminal emulator based on KDE Konsole. It
features smoothly rolling down from the top of your screen, a tabbed
interface, configurable dimensions and animation speed, a skinnable GUI,
and a sophisticated DCOP interface.

Changes: This release adds an option to control whether the Yakuake window
keeps above other windows. It improves experience for non-KDE users by
disabling KRootPixmap-based pseudo-translucency for them, which gets rid
of rendering errors with skins that make use of the alpha channel. It has
been replaced by configurable skin background color. A leftover gap below
the window at 100% height or in full-screen mode has been fixed. An option
to automatically open the Yakuake window when the pointer touches the
screen edge it lives on has been added.
