Communications
Communications :: Chat
Communications :: Chat :: Unix Talk

About: 123 Flash Chat Server is a chat server with a Flash chat client. It
can seamlessly integrate the external user databases of Joomla!, Drupal,
phpBB, php-Nuke, Postnuke, vbulletin, and Invision board. It's a fast,
easy, and affordable method of managing real-time chat rooms. It allows a
site owner to organize chat events in dating sites and online meetings
reliably. The interface and function are customizable. A video chat
function is optionally available.

Changes: The Chat Room Remote Controller (MSN edition) was added as an
optional tool to allow the moderators to monitor the chat room externally
on MSN Messenger. In addition, the chat module configuration became more
handy in the Admin Panel. An anti-pirate mechanism was added and bugs were
fixed.

[002] - 3rd Edition Dungeons & Dragons Character Generator 3.8
  by Slicer (http://freshmeat.net/users/slicer/)
  Sun, Jan 20th 2008 20:02

Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing

About: 3rd Edition Dungeons and Dragons Character Generator is an
HTML/JavaScript Web page that allows the user to quickly and easily create
new Dungeons and Dragons characters. The characters can be of any of the
eleven classes, any of the playable races, and may start at any level from
1 to 220. Generation requires some simple input, after which the character
is displayed on a basic character sheet. It allows you to select your
starting stats, add ability points, and pick skills, equipment, feats, and
spells. It runs on most operating systems with most modern browsers.

Changes: Paladins now get Divine Grace at level 2 and higher. Alignment
restrictions are no longer enforced, but shown as a warning.

[004] - AgileWiki 0.2 (COODBMS)
  by Bill la Forge (http://freshmeat.net/users/laforge49/)
  Sun, Jan 20th 2008 02:24

Database
Documentation
Information Management

About: AgileWiki is a program that explores new knowledge representation.
It is an attempt to implement, at least in part, Norm Kashdan's Rolonic
Theory, a profoundly different approach to time and knowledge
representation. CowDb is a high-speed object store over which the next
generation of AgileWiki will be written. COODBMS is a Copy-on-write OODBMS
based on Rolonics.

Changes: Trees of persistent objects (Rolons) are now organized in a
non-cyclic graph (bush structure) with support for cross-links. Freeing an
object within this compound structure gracefully maintains the structure's
integrity. Fast deep copies (in nearly fixed time) of Rolons and bush
structures is fully supported.

[005] - Apache 2.2.8 (Stable (2.2.x))
  by Patrick Lenz (http://freshmeat.net/users/scoop/)
  Sun, Jan 20th 2008 16:59

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers

About: Apache is the world's most popular HTTP server, being quite
possibly the best around in terms of functionality, efficiency, security
and speed.

Changes: A flaw was found in the mod_proxy_balancer module that permitted
a cross-site scripting attack against an authorized user. A flaw was found
in the mod_proxy_balancer module that allowed an authorized user to send a
carefully crafted request that would cause the Apache child process
handling that request to crash. A flaw was found in the mod_status module
that allowed a cross-site scripting attack. A flaw was found in the
mod_imap module. On sites where mod_imap is enabled and an imagemap file
is publically available, a cross-site scripting attack was possible.

[012] - DUMA 2.5.11
  by Hayati Ayguen (http://freshmeat.net/users/hayguen/)
  Sun, Jan 20th 2008 16:57

Software Development :: Debuggers
Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Testing

About: DUMA (Detect Unintended Memory Access) stops your program on the
exact instruction that overruns (or underruns) a malloc() memory buffer.
GDB will then display the source-code line that causes the bug. It works
by using the virtual-memory hardware to create a red-zone at the border of
each buffer: touch that, and your program stops. It can catch formerly
impossible-to-catch overrun bugs. DUMA is a fork of Bruce Perens' Electric
Fence library.

Changes: A major bugfix in thread safety.

[013] - ExactImage 0.4.2
  by René Rebe (http://freshmeat.net/users/ReneRebe/)
  Sun, Jan 20th 2008 12:39

Multimedia :: Graphics

About: ExactImage is a fast C++ image processing library. Unlike
ImageMagick, it allows operation in several color spaces and bit depths
natively, resulting in much lower memory and computational requirements.
Some optimized algorithms operate in 1/20 of the time ImageMagick
requires, and displaying large images can be as fast as 1/10 of the time
the "display" program takes.

Changes: A fast image convolution method was added for certain matrix
operations, as well as an accelerated Gaussian blur operation based on the
new base code. Other 8 bits-per-channel matrix convolutions were
accelerated as well. The black and white thresholding was changed to use
the new code and optionally avoid stray pixels. Adjustments in the HSL
colorspace were fixed for non-color, pure gray images. The edisplay viewer
was fixed to correctly display images with alpha channel with the latest
Evas versions. The build system was fixed for systems where not all
optional codec libraries are available.

  Sun, Jan 20th 2008 17:03

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
System :: Networking

About: HAproxy is a high-performance and highly-robust TCP and HTTP load
balancer which provides cookie-based persistence, content-based switching,
advanced traffic regulation with surge protection, automatic failover,
run-time regex-based header control, Web-based reporting, advanced logging
to help trouble-shooting buggy applications and/or networks, and a few
other features. Its own event-driven state machine achieves 20,000 hits
per second and surpasses GigaEthernet on modern hardware, even with tens
of thousands of simultaneous connections.

Changes: Several minor bugs have been fixed. A major bug that might have
caused object truncation under Linux 2.6 with sepoll and slow servers has
been fixed. It is now possible to prepend the "no" keyword in front of
options. The GNU Makefile has been rewritten to become more distribution
packager friendly. The configuration manual has received a large update,

[045] - sawfish 1.3.2
  by Janek Kozicki (http://freshmeat.net/users/cosurgi/)
  Sun, Jan 20th 2008 15:00

Desktop Environment :: Window Managers

About: Sawfish (the window manager formerly known as Sawmill) is an
extensible window manager using a Lisp-based extension language. All
window decorations are configurable and all user-interface policy is
controlled through the language. Its aim is to manage windows in the most
flexible and attractive manner possible. As such it does not implement
desktop backgrounds, application docks, or other things that may be
achieved through separate applications. Sawfish is mostly GNOME-compliant;
almost all configuration may be made through a graphical interface.

Changes: Strings are re-encoded in UTF-8, thus window titles will be set
correctly regardless of title encoding. The documentation was updated.
Nautilus can now restore its desktop window size, the 64-bit client
messages were fixed, the KDE system tray no longer fights with sawfish to
reparent a tray icon, Qt applications no longer lose focus when the menu
is active, window placement was corrected in xinerama/dual head, and a few
other bugs were fixed.

  Sun, Jan 20th 2008 23:49

Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Interpreters

About: Seed7 is a general purpose programming language. It is a higher
level language compared to Ada, C++, and Java. In Seed7, new statements
and operators can be declared easily. Functions with type results and type
parameters are more elegant than a template or generics concept. Object
orientation is used when it brings advantages and not in places when other
solutions are more obvious. Although Seed7 contains several concepts of
other programming languages, it is generally not considered as a direct
descendant of any other programming language.

Changes: Optimisations for the string functions =, <>, stri[num], &,
upper, lower, pos, rpos, split, and for array indexing were added to the
compiler (comp.sd7). Documentation comments were added to bigint.s7i,
draw.s7i, bas7.sd7, and mahjong.sd7. The basic interpreter example program
was improved and renamed to bas7.sd7. Functions in dir.s7i, complex.s7i,
and time.s7i were improved. The functions getDigits, skipSpace, and
skipWhiteSpace were added to scanner.s7i. The digits function for float
was improved to never return -0. The lpad0 operator was added to convert
integers to strings with leading zeros.

[054] - Whole Platform 1.0.0.v20080118-1907
  by Riccardo Solmi (http://freshmeat.net/users/riccardo_solmi/)
  Sun, Jan 20th 2008 14:55

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: The Whole Platform is a technology for engineering the production
of software. It provides an Eclipse-based Language Workbench for
developing new languages, manipulating them using domain notations, and
transforming them using a generative model driven approach. The languages
bundled with the Whole Platform include: modeling languages; query and
transformation languages; integration languages for grammars, XSD, RDB,
and Java libraries; and popular languages such as Java and XML.

Changes: The main theme directing the efforts for this milestone release
has been to make modeling the language behavior as easy as modeling the
structure. To that end, this release improves both the domain languages
and the tooling. The Queries language is now the main language to use for
defining behavior in Whole; it is no longer limited to queries and
transformations. All of the new constructs have retained the "query style"
of the language: stream oriented, declarative, and based on path/pattern
matching semantics.

  Sun, Jan 20th 2008 08:24

About: Wiak is a very efficient, special-purpose, usually non-interactive,
extremely lightweight IPC shell that is used for building client/server
"wiakapps". A variety of demonstration wiakapps are available as part of
the current WIAK suite. The name WIAK stands for the "WIAK Interface für
Application Kontrolle". As an inter-process communications utility, its
name reflects its ability to create and control diverse wiakapps whose
component parts may be written in a variety of programming languages and
with an assortment of GUI toolkits.

Changes: This version includes a System V message queue IPC mode, allowing
it to provide message queue functionality to other programs such as, for
example, bash. It has enhanced named pipe functionality. The send data
buffer size has been increased for bulk data transfer. A tutorial and a
number of associated example voice-controlled aural wiakapps have been

family member monitoring. It supports capture, analysis, recording, and
monitoring of video data coming from one or more video or network cameras
attached to a Linux system. It also features a user-friendly Web interface
which allows viewing, archival, review, and deletion of images and movies
captured by the cameras. The image analysis system is highly configurable,
permitting retention of specific events, while eliminating false positives.
ZoneMinder supports both directly connected and network cameras and is
built around the definition of a set of individual 'zones' of varying
sensitivity and functionality for each camera. This allows the elimination
of regions which should be ignored or the definition of areas which will
alarm if various thresholds are exceeded in conjunction with other zones.
All management, control, and other functions are supported through the Web
interface.

Changes: This release addresses a number of minor issues that have arisen
since the release of 1.23.0.
