[002] - Arg_parser 1.1-rc1 (Development)
  by Antonio Diaz Diaz (http://freshmeat.net/users/ant_diaz/)
  Fri, Jan 25th 2008 05:03

Software Development :: User Interfaces

About: Arg_parser is an argument parser that follows POSIX and GNU
conventions for command line arguments. It is implemented as a C++ class,
and is simpler, easier to use, and safer than "getopt_long". Arg_parser
does not modify its arguments, nor uses any global variables. So you may
create more than one parser in your program if you need or want to.
Arg_parser can also parse options from configuration files. A C language
version is also available.

Changes: A C language version has been added. Options requiring an
argument no longer accept an empty argument.

[004] - Blitz templates for PHP 0.5.10
  by Alexey Rybak (http://freshmeat.net/users/alexeyrybak/)
  Fri, Jan 25th 2008 16:20

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: Blitz templates is a fast PHP template engine written in C and
compiled as a PHP extension. It started as a php_templates replacement,
but developed into much more. It is based on extensible template
controllers (custom view classes in PHP) and weakly-active templates
(simple logic in HTML). Benchmarks show that it is one of the fastest
template engines for PHP, even though it's not trivial and makes Web
application closer to a smart MVC-like architecture model with maximal
separation of HTML from your code. It was designed for big high-load
Internet projects with a lot of complex presentation logic.

Changes: A segfault that occurred on specific iteration sequences that use
a mix of normal and simplified forms of set params was fixed. Non-prefixed
path variables like obj.property or arr.key now work correctly in method
calls. Minor compilation and error messages fixes were made.

[005] - Deliantra Server 2.41

  Fri, Jan 25th 2008 13:28

Games/Entertainment
Games/Entertainment :: Multi-User Dungeons (MUD)
Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing

About: Deliantra is an advancement of the crossfire multi-user RPG game.
Unlike the original project, it focuses mainly on stability and
playability, but also adds modern technology such as map scripting, Perl
server extensions, asynchronous I/O, higher resolution graphics, and
better client support.

Changes: The jewelery skill had a major bug where the configuration file
wasn't parsed correctly. Reloading the Perl interface doesn't freeze the
game ticks anymore. The server utility was upgraded to another event loop
module. The tombstones of players who died in a cave-in are now put on the
real map and not on their savebed anymore.

[010] - DUMA 2.5.12
  by Hayati Ayguen (http://freshmeat.net/users/hayguen/)
  Fri, Jan 25th 2008 13:30

Software Development :: Debuggers
Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Testing

About: DUMA (Detect Unintended Memory Access) stops your program on the
exact instruction that overruns (or underruns) a malloc() memory buffer.
GDB will then display the source-code line that causes the bug. It works
by using the virtual-memory hardware to create a red-zone at the border of
each buffer: touch that, and your program stops. It can catch formerly
impossible-to-catch overrun bugs. DUMA is a fork of Bruce Perens' Electric
Fence library.

Changes: This release adds the environment variable 'DUMA_CHECK_FREQ' to
autmatically check all memory no man's land at each n'th
allocation/deallocation. n=0 to deactivate automatic checks. README.txt
has been updated.

[011] - Expect-lite 3.0.5
  by Craig Miller (http://freshmeat.net/users/cvmiller/)
  Fri, Jan 25th 2008 16:19

Software Development :: Quality Assurance

About: Expect-lite is a wrapper for expect, created to make expect
programming even easier. The wrapper permits the creation of expect script
command files by using special character(s) at the beginning of each line
to indicate the expect-lite action. Basic expect-lite scripts can be
created by simply cutting and pasting text from a terminal window into a
script, and adding '>' '

Changes: This release fixes a bug where line 2 of the script was not
interpreted. A random example (test_expect_random.txt) shows how to add
randomness to a test (and recreate the test with $seed).

Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Chemistry
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization

About: Fityk is nonlinear curve-fitting and data analysis software. It
allows data visualization, separation of overlapping peaks, and least
squares fitting using standard Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm, a genetic
algorithm, or Nelder-Mead simplex method. It knows about many functions
(mostly bell-shaped, like Gaussian, Loretzian, Pearson 7, Voigt,
Pseudo-Voigt, and Doniach-Sunjic) and user-defined functions can be easily
added. It also enables background substracting, data calibration, and task
automation with a simple script language. It is being developed to analyze
powder diffraction patterns, but is also used in chromatography,
photoluminescence, infrared, and Raman spectroscopy, and can be used to
fit analytical functions to any kind of data. The most similar program to
Fityk is probably PeakFit.

Changes: This release adds importation of new data file types (VAMAS,
Siemens/Bruker UXD, Philips UDF and RD, Rigaku DAT, WinSpec SPE).

[016] - GDC 0.5.1
  by potto (http://freshmeat.net/users/potto/)
  Fri, Jan 25th 2008 10:35

Scientific/Engineering
Software Development :: Libraries
Text Processing

About: GDC is a utility to calculate compressible flow (Gas Dynamics
Calculator). It provides calculations for isentropic nozzle, isothermal
nozzle, isothermal, Fanno (choke and unchoked), Rayleigh flow, etc. It
also provide calculations for shock and oblique shock by direct
calculations (no iteration, probably the only one that can do it). GDC
also calculates shock dynamics, i.e gas running into a different medium
with different speed. The result are in plain text, LaTeX, or a range of
values.

Changes: This release builds a new utility named obliqueFigure to generate
oblique shock figures. Range calculations have been improved so that larger
and more details can be provided. The "Naughty Professor" calculations have
been improved. Some bugs in the oblique shock class have been fixed.

[018] - Greylite 2.1
  by Mij (http://freshmeat.net/users/mijio/)
  Fri, Jan 25th 2008 06:28

Communications :: Email
Internet

About: Greylite is a SPAM filter with exceptional effectiveness and no
false positives. It combines natively with qmail and works as a proxy for

[020] - Hotwire 0.700
  by Colin Walters (http://freshmeat.net/users/colinwalters/)
  Fri, Jan 25th 2008 05:11

Software Development

About: Hotwire is a Python-based, object oriented, cross-platform command
execution shell. Hotwire is not a terminal emulator, nor is it something
you can set as your Unix "login shell". Instead, Hotwire unifies the
concepts of shell and terminal and can natively do about 80-90% of what
one would normally do in a terminal and shell; for the rest, Hotwire can
embed VTE. Hotwire's object-oriented nature is influenced by Windows
PowerShell. Hotwire provides a modern command interface for developers and
system administrators to interact with the computer.

Changes: This is the first alpha release. While it is still in development
and a number of things may change, it is expected that significantly more
people will find it to be a compelling replacement for a terminal and a
shell.

Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: iText is a library that contains classes to generate documents in
the Portable Document Format (PDF), XML, HTML, and RTF. It can also parse
XML documents and convert them into any of these formats. Pages of
existing PDF files can be imported and copied to new PDF documents.

Changes: This is the final 2.0.x release before moving to 2.1. The most
important change is the code reorganization. Whereas in the past there was
one large com.lowagie.* tree under 'src', this release has the directories
'src' and 'test', each with different subdirectories. Under src is 'core'
(for the original iText), 'rtf' (for the future rtf.jar), and 'rups' (with
a new PDF tool). The 'test' directory contains code for testing (JUnit).
Apart from this reorganization there are bugfixes and minor feature
enhancements.

[035] - Port Scan Attack Detector 2.1.1
  by Michael Rash (http://freshmeat.net/users/michaelrash/)
  Fri, Jan 25th 2008 21:32

System :: Networking :: Firewalls
System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: The Port Scan Attack Detector (psad) is a collection of three
system daemons that are designed to work with the Linux iptables
firewalling code to detect port scans and other suspect traffic. It
features a set of highly configurable danger thresholds (with sensible
defaults), verbose alert messages, email alerting, DShield reporting, and
automatic blocking of offending IP addresses. Psad incorporates many of
the packet signatures included in Snort to detect various kinds of
suspicious scans, and implements the same passive OS fingerprinting
algorithm used by p0f.

Changes: A new feature whereby iptables log data can be acquired just by
parsing an existing file (/var/log/messages by default) that is written to
by syslog was added. Better installation support was provided for various
Linux distributions, including Fedora 8 and Ubuntu. Situations where
either the /var/log/psad/fwdata file or the /var/log/messages file
(whichever syslog is writing iptables log messages to) gets rotated are
now handled automatically.

Text Processing :: Markup :: XML

About: ReportNG is a simple HTML reporting plug-in for the TestNG
unit-testing framework. It is intended as a replacement for the default
TestNG HTML report. The default report is comprehensive but is not so easy
to understand at-a-glance. ReportNG provides a simple, color-coded view of
the test results. ReportNG generates 100% valid XHTML 1.0 files. The
output can be customised by replacing the default stylesheet with your own
CSS file. ReportNG also includes a second reporter that produces JUnit
format XML output.

Changes: HTML reports now include information about failed or skipped
configuration. Skipped tests now list dependencies. Other cosmetic changes
were made to the HTML output. An experimental JUnit XML reporter was added.

  Fri, Jan 25th 2008 10:44

About: Sylbi is a conversation system that is not a forum and not a
blogging platform, but a combination of the two. It grew from the idea
that a blog with comments and a forum only differ in their perspective of
 the conversation. Both provide a chronological set of postings, initiated
by someone, and, (potentially) replied to by others. The main difference
is the perspective they present: a blog presents the perspective of the
blog owner(s), while a forum presents the perspective of the forum and a
topic defined in the forum. Sylbi allows you to look at conversations
either way.

is hidden by another program, like in Gnome or KDE. However, it is
possible to execute a configurable command to effect the change whenever
the image is supposed to change. A script to do this in Gnome is included.

Changes: This releases fixes a single bug where the status information was
printed on image change.
