[001] - 4tH compiler 3.5c release 2
  by J.L. Bezemer (http://freshmeat.net/users/hansoft/)
  Sun, Jan 27th 2008 06:24

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Libraries

About: 4tH is a Forth compiler with a little difference. Instead of the
standard Forth engine it features a conventional compiler. 4tH is a very
small compiler that can create bytecode, C-embeddable bytecode, standalone
executables, but also works fine as a scripting language. It supports about
95% of the ANS Forth CORE wordset and features conditional compilation,
pipes, files, assertions, forward declarations, enumerations, structures,
suspended execution, recursion, include files, etc. It comes with an RPN
calculator, line editor, compiler, decompiler, C-source generator, a
virtual machine, and a multitasking environment.

Changes: A default 4tH directory can be defined by setting an environment
variable. Support for creating custom 4tH implementations was added. The
multitasking environment is scriptable now. The library files concerning
ANS Core Extensions, table searching, and interpretation have been
rewritten or replaced.

[002] - amforth 2.6
  by Matthias Trute (http://freshmeat.net/users/mtrute/)
  Sun, Jan 27th 2008 13:10

Scientific/Engineering
Software Development :: Embedded Systems
System :: Hardware

About: amforth is an embedded Forth distribution for the the AVR Atmega
microcontroller. Once put into flash, it needs only a serial connection to
the host computer. New words are compiled directly into flash, thus
extending the dictionary immediately. It provides most of the ANS94 Forth
CORE plus some extensions. It is written in assembly language and Forth
itself. The main development uses Atmega8 and Atmega32 controllers; other
Atmega controllers work with small adjustments.

Changes: This release adds a few more microcontroller specific words. Some
minor bugs are fixed.

[009] - Ctalk 0.0.37a
  by thx1132 (http://freshmeat.net/users/kiesling3/)
  Sun, Jan 27th 2008 06:49

Software Development :: Interpreters
Software Development :: Libraries

About: Ctalk provides object oriented programming features, like classes,
methods, operator overloading, and inheritance to otherwise standard C
programs. You can use only a few objects and classes in a program, or you
can write programs entirely in Ctalk. The package provides a translator
from Ctalk source code into C for compilation and a library that provides
run-time support for class objects. The preprocessor, ctpp, is also
available separately, and the package includes sample programs and
documentation.

Changes: This release adds methods in the Time class, and provides more
flexibility in the use of C include files in class libraries, and also
includes minor performance improvements and several bugfixes.

[010] - Ctcompare 2.3
  by Warren Toomey (http://freshmeat.net/users/DoctorWkt/)
  Sun, Jan 27th 2008 16:10

Software Development

About: Ctcompare allows you to compare several sets of C or Java code
trees on a token basis, rather than on a line by line basis. These
programs help to identify code copying and similarities between snippets
of code in both trees, even if the actual lines are dissimilar.

Changes: Speed has been significantly improved, especially when there are
large amounts of similarities between code trees. This release has a
command line option to sort the results by the number of tokens in a run.
Initial support for Java source files has been added.

[013] - DerMixD 1.4.0
  by Thomas Orgis (http://freshmeat.net/users/sobukus/)
  Sun, Jan 27th 2008 13:10

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players :: MP3

About: DerMixD is an audio mixing and network-listening daemon that is
similar to mixplayd but quite different in its implementation. It supports
the playing of music files on a run-time configurable number of input
channels, mixing them together and producing output on a run-time
configurable number of output channels. It is controlled over a TCP socket
and supports scripting, gapless playing of tracks, including filtering of
null samples from padding, use of mpg123's equalizer, flexible
input/output connection, changing playback speed, and more.

Changes: This release contains important threading/stability fixes, some
internal reworking, and exciting new functionality. There is an experiment
with thread priorities on Linux for keeping things smooth, but on the user
side the most important feature may be the new scan command for querying
properties of an input stream (like peak or normalization volume).

[023] - libetc 0.4
  by Luc Dufresne (http://freshmeat.net/users/lucd/)
  Sun, Jan 27th 2008 16:04

System

About: libetc is an LD_PRELOAD-able shared library designed for
maintaining a home directory without dot-files. It intercepts file
operations, so if a program tries to open a dotfile in $HOME, it is
redirected to $XDG_CONFIG_HOME (as defined by freedesktop). You can then
store all your configuration files in $XDG_CONFIG_HOME instead of using
lots of dot-files in $HOME.

Changes: Apart from the usual code cleanup and bugfixes, a configurable
blacklist of programs, whose behavior should not be modified by libetc,
was added. A small hack was also added to ease the use of libetc with
Xorg.

matrices. Some of the notable features are operator overloading, LR
decomposition, eigenvalue/eigenvector algorithms for symmetric matrices,
and export to Matlab/LaTeX/Yacas formats.

Changes: This release uses Module::Build, so Math::MatrixReal should in
theory be able to compile on systems without make. A new concatenation
operator ".", e.g. $c = $a . $b, concatenates two matrices side-by-side.
The function assign_row has been added. The beginning of a test suite
overhaul to convert to Test::More.

[029] - metashell 0.04b
  by Justin M. Wray (http://freshmeat.net/users/JustinWray/)
  Sun, Jan 27th 2008 06:21

System
System :: Shells
System :: Systems Administration

About: metashell is a lightweight, heavy punch, interactive, intelligent
command line shell. The difference lies in its ability to determine a
file's data type, and automatically run your desired applications. It uses
file data types (MIME types) to determine a file's type, and then using
user-defined applications automatically opens the file.

Changes: The code was cleaned up. Handling of tilde (~) versus /home/ was
fixed. The configuration editing engine was rewritten to be independent of
the OS binary formats. Auto-install bugs were fixed. Directory listing of
filetypes (filetype and wildcards) was added. Auto-update was added, which
will update metashell without changeing configuration. This is the first
binary release (using par-binary). Error handling was cleaned up.

[030] - Minirok 0.8
  by Adeodato Simó (http://freshmeat.net/users/adeodato/)
  Sun, Jan 27th 2008 06:27

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players

About: Minirok is a small music player for the K Desktop Environment. As
its name hints, it's modelled after Amarok, but with a reduced set of
features. In particular, it is designed to cover all the needs and wishes
of the author, leaving everything else out. The look and feel is almost
identical to Amarok's, though. The main interface is a tree view of the
filesystem, with a playlist that can only be populated via drag and drop.
There is no collection built from tags, so it's targeted at people whose
collections are already structured in a tree at the filesystem level.
Searches can be performed both in the tree view and the playlist.

Changes: This new version adds a "Refresh" button to quickly refresh the
tree view without re-reading all directory contents, an "Open directory"
dialog to select which directory to open without having to type it,
improved responsiveness when reading ID3 over a slow network filesystem,
and some other minor enhancements.

[031] - MiniUPnP Client and Daemon 1.0
  by nanard (http://freshmeat.net/users/nanard0/)
  Sun, Jan 27th 2008 16:16

Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: The MiniUPnP project is a library and a daemon. The library is
aimed to enable applications to use the capabilities of a UPnP Internet
Gateway Device present on the network to forward ports. The daemon adds
the UPnP Internet Gateway Device functionality to a NAT gateway running
OpenBSD/NetBSD/FreeBSD/Solaris with PF/IPF or Linux 2.4.x/2.6.x with
netfilter. One of its most interesting features is to enforce some
permissions to allow or deny redirections, bringing some security to UPnP.
Newer versions also support the NAT-PMP protocol from Apple.

Changes: MiniUPnPd is now a mature project. This release adds a "secure
mode" in which clients can only redirect ports to themselves.

About: Postfix is an attempt to provide an alternative to the widely-used
Sendmail program. Postfix attempts to be fast, easy to administer, and
hopefully secure, while at the same time being sendmail compatible enough
to not upset your users.

Changes: TLS (SSL) support was streamlined further. Milter support was
updated from the Sendmail 8.13 feature set and now includes most of the
features introduced with Sendmail 8.14. Stress-adaptive configuration was
introduced. This allows the Postfix SMTP server to temporarily adjust its
rules under conditions of overload. The queue manager scheduler now

the sensitivity to mail delivery (non-)errors. Security was improved by
introducing a Postfix-owned data_directory for storage of randomness,

[062] - VRaptor 2.5.0

Software Development
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: VRaptor 2 is a Web-based MVC and IOC framework based on many
frameworks and ideas (Seam, Stripes, Webwork, Hibernate Annotations, etc).
It makes full use of Java 5 Annotations. It favors convention over
configuration, because configuration in XML/properties/annotations is
always easy to make mistakes and repetitive (aka copy and paste in many
places). This framework uses a more imperative approach, instead of having
many XML files to configure lifecycle and other properties. Most of the
settings go inside plain Java objects (POJO), so the team knows exactly
what is going on and where.

Changes: This release comes with new taglib support, better integration
and componentization through the use of pico container, and better
documentation and tests. Some deprecated annotations have been removed.

[063] - WAVE Utilities 1.19
  by Bill Poser (http://freshmeat.net/users/billposer/)

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio

About: WAVE Utilities is a set of three programs for dealing with WAVE
format audio files. Some software is unable to parse complex WAVE files
containing such things as playlists and padding. SimplifyWave converts
complex files into files that such programs can read by stripping
everything other than the data chunk. RepairWave inserts the required data
chunk id and size information into ill-formed files in which the audio data
directly follows the header. InfoWave extracts information from a RIFF/WAV
or RIFX/WAV file and reports on the contents of the file.

Changes: This release fixes several problems arising in unusual
circumstances.
