[001] - ABL (Abstract Basic List) 1.2
by atoku (http://freshmeat.net/users/atoku/)
Mon, Jan 28th 2008 13:14
Software Development :: Libraries
About: ABL (Abstract Basic List) is a flexible abstract list library
defined using the C preprocessor. It allows you to define linked lists of
arbitrary types very easily. You also can use these lists as stacks or
queues. You can easily define complicated types like a list of lists. It
contains a set of functions to work on lists, including higher order
functions for filtering and so on. The list includes detailed
documentation in texinfo format.
Changes: New functions: add_tail, create_tail, get_tail, and concat. ABL
is now a proper and effective queue as well as a list or stack. The
functions foreach, findif, and deleteif were changed. They accept
parameters for the testing function and can start acting from some
arbitrary element, not just from the head of the list. Some efforts were
made to make recursion on the list easier. The function findif has a side
effect: it moves the pointer to the found element. There are more examples
in the documentation. The most important is the recursion demonstration
example. There are many improvements to the code and documentation.

Information Management
About: AgileWiki is a program that explores new knowledge representation.
It is an attempt to implement, at least in part, Norm Kashdan's Rolonic
Theory, a profoundly different approach to time and knowledge
representation. CowDb is a high-speed object store over which the next
generation of AgileWiki will be written. COODBMS is a Copy-on-write OODBMS
based on Rolonics.
Changes: CowDb has been rearchitected for enhanced extensibility. A new
API is in place. Some minor bugs have been fixed. A good start has been
made on the online documentation.

[010] - DictEm 0.82
by Aleksey Cheusov (http://freshmeat.net/users/vle/)
Mon, Jan 28th 2008 13:25
About: DictEm is an extremely customizable DICT client for (X)Emacs. It
implements all functions of the client part of the DICT protocol
(RFC-2229). Unlike dictionary.el, it widely uses autocompletion that is
used for selecting a dictionary and search strategy. It provides several
hooks that may be used for buffer postprocessing. Built-in hyperlinking
and a highlighting mechanism are based on this ability. It supports the
mechanism of virtual dictionaries that can be used for grouping
dictionaries from different DICT servers into the client-side virtual
dictionary.

Office/Business :: Financial :: Accounting
About: FrontAccounting (FA) is a professional Web-based accounting system
for the entire ERP chain. FA is multiuser, multilingual, and
multicurrency. FA is a further elaboration of the discontinued
OpenAccounting (OA) software. OA was a fork of WebERP.
Changes: This release has an optional replacement for items, customers,
and suppliers listboxes. For customers and suppliers, you can search for
anything within a name. For items, you can search in a similar way for
stock_id, category, or item name. The reason for this replacement is that
these listboxes can only hold about 1000 items, but with even 100 items it
tends to get confusing reading them. Several bugs and warnings have been

Database :: API
Software Development :: Libraries
About: jPersist is an extremely powerful object-relational database
persistence API that manages to avoid the need for configuration and
annotation; mapping is automatic. It uses JDBC, and can work with any
relational database and any type of connection resource. It uses
information obtained from the database to handle mapping between the
database and Java objects, so mapping configuration is not needed, and
annotation is not needed. In fact, there is no configuration needed at
all.
Changes: This release has a new inflector class for pluralizing class
names for matching database tables. Matching of methods to table columns
is now strict. Several more methods have been added (next and previous in
Result, and executeQuery and executeUpdate in DatabaseManager). A bug
introduced in the last release that caused redundant loading of
association objects in certain situations has been fixed. This release
fixes SingleTableInheritance and adds ConcreteTableInheritance.

Mon, Jan 28th 2008 17:42
Utilities
About: KAlarm lets you configure personal messages to be displayed,
commands to be executed, or emails to be sent at scheduled times. Among
its options, it allows you to choose the message font and color, how often
to repeat, whether to display an advance reminder, whether to speak the
message or play a sound when it is displayed, and whether to cancel the
alarm if it can't be triggered on time (e.g. if you are logged out at the
time). As well as using the graphical interface to configure alarms, you
can use the command line, and there is a DCOP interface for other
applications.
Changes: Simple repetitions are replaced by recurrence sub-repetitions to
reduce confusion. The alarm edit dialog layout has been improved. Reminder
times can now be entered in minutes. The Debian package dependencies have

Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Libraries :: Perl Modules
System :: Networking
About: Libev is a high-performance event loop for C (with optional and
separate interfaces for C++ and Perl), featuring support for I/O, timers
(relative and absolute, cron-like ones), signals, process status changes,
and other types of events. It has both a fast native API and libevent
emulation to support programs written using the libevent API. The libev
distribution consists of libevent with the core event handling parts
replaced by the libev embedded event loop. Differences to libevent include
higher speed, simpler design, more features, less memory usage,
embedability, and no arbitrary limits. libev supports epoll, kqueue,
Solaris event ports, poll, and select.
Changes: ev_child watchers now waits for child exits by default, but can
be configured to also return trace events. A race delaying signal handling
after a fork has been fixed. Experimental wrappers for event loops have

System :: Diagnostics
About: MySpeed is a Java applet that measures connection speeds and
quality by timing actual data transfers between your server and end-users.
Connection tests are performed via HTTP or socket-to-socket modes. The
consistency of data transfer speeds is reported, a key measure of
connection quality. Detailed graphs of all data transferred during a speed
test are produced. VoIP editions test jitter and packet loss, reporting
VoIP quality and load capacity. A server-side database logs all speed test
results. The NOC and Support editions provide remote agent technologies to
identify remote connectivity problems.
Changes: The browser applet and remote agents now perform the RTT (round
trip time) test using the socket stream (ie: port 20000 if available, will
fall back to 80 if not).

[048] - rsyslog 3.10.3 (Development)
by Rainer Gerhards (http://freshmeat.net/users/rgerhards/)
Mon, Jan 28th 2008 09:38
System :: Logging
About: Rsyslog is an enhanced multi-threaded syslogd. Among other
features, it offers support for reliable syslog over TCP and RFC 3195,
writing to MySQL and PostgreSQL databases, fully configurable output
formats (including great timestamps), the ability to filter on any part of
the syslog message, and on-the-wire message compression. It is designed as
a drop-in replacement for stock syslogd and thus is able to work with the
same configuration file syntax. Of course, some enhanced features require
changing the configuration file, but in general, this should be fairly
easy.
Changes: This release offers a "disk-assisted" mode to the in-memory
message queue. Queued messages are automatically persisted to disk if
there is need to do so. This, for example, is the case when the in-memory
queue is full or rsyslogd needs to shut down. The new engine also comes
with a full-featured, dynamic worker thread pool. A maximum number of
workers can be defined. They are started and shut down automatically on an
as-needed basis. This is an important feature for multi-core machines. This
is a recommended update for users of the v3 branch.
