[003] - checksysreport 1.0-2
  by Pierre Amadio (http://freshmeat.net/users/pamadio/)
  Tue, Jan 29th 2008 00:55

About: checksysreport performs some automatic tests against a directory
containing an untarred Red Hat Enterprise Linux sysreport. You will need a
valid Red Hat Network login in order to use it, as it fetches information
from RHN using the RHN API (see https://rhn.redhat.com/rpc/api/). A
graphical tool, yadarh, is also included: it uses the cache generated by
checksysreport to display RPMs in a given channel and lets you browse them
to have a list of errata and new entries in changelogs that come with other
versions of the same package.

Changes: Issues where fill_cache_packages did not cope with XML-RPC server
errors or RHN satellite were fixed. yadarh and checksysreport are now
z-stream aware. Base channel detection is first attempted using RHN. There
is no longer a length limitation for package versions and releases. yadarh
no longer quits when there is an exception in the background thread or
when searching for invalid regular expressions.

[004] - Chicken 3.0.0
  by Ivan Raikov (http://freshmeat.net/users/iraikov/)
  Tue, Jan 29th 2008 00:42

Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Interpreters

About: Chicken is a Scheme compiler that translates most of R5RS Scheme
into relatively portable C. It supports fully general tail-call recursion,
first-class continuations, and has a very flexible and efficient interface
to C and C++. Chicken implements several extensions to the Scheme
language: lightweight threads, pattern matching macros, dynamic loading of
compiled code, and various object-oriented paradigms, such as TinyCLOS,
Meroon, Prometheus, and others. The library system includes hundreds of
convenient modules for practical use.

Changes: chicken-setup now accesses a separate set of eggs, specific to
the major CHICKEN version. Support for Mac OS X universal binaries has
been added. Additions were made to the units library, POSIX, and the core
macros. The build system now supports libpcre already being installed.

[005] - Config::Model 0.617
  by Dominique Dumont (http://freshmeat.net/users/ddumont/)
  Tue, Jan 29th 2008 07:02

Information Management :: Metadata/Semantic Models
Software Development :: Libraries :: Perl Modules
Software Development :: Quality Assurance

About: Config-Model provides a framework for validating the semantic
content of any configuration data. With a configuration model (data
structure), config-model provides a validation engine. A curses interface
is provided to enter configuration data. Config-Model includes a model
example for fstab and a small fstab demo.

Changes: The possibility to load a Tk GUI was added (but is still under
development). A "replace" parameter for enum Value was added. This enables
smoother upgrades of configuration data.

  by Dominique Dumont (http://freshmeat.net/users/ddumont/)
  Tue, Jan 29th 2008 07:08

System :: Systems Administration

About: Config::Model::Xorg provides a configuration model for xorg.conf.
This model is to be loaded by Config::Model. Along with
Config::Model::CursesUI, you get tools to view or edit your xorg.conf
file.

Changes: On Linux, keyboard conf files are fetched from
/usr/share/X11/xkb/rules instead of /etc/X11/xkb/rules. The code no longer
fails when parsing xorg.conf files with wrong entries. The "keyboard"
driver is replaced by "kbd" when loading an xorg.conf file.

[012] - dtrx 6.0
  by Brett Smith (http://freshmeat.net/users/bretts/)
  Tue, Jan 29th 2008 06:58

About: dtrx intelligently extracts many different archive types. It will
get the contents from tar, zip, rpm, deb, and cpio archives, as well as
compressed files, with one simple command. It helps keep your filesystem
sane by putting every archive's contents into a dedicated directory, and
making sure the owner can read and write whatever's extracted. It can even
recursively extract archives.

Changes: This release fixes a regression from version 5.0 that caused
recursive extraction to stop working properly. There are also some new
features so that it's easier to see what dtrx is doing, including better
error messages when extraction fails.

[017] - Freenet 0.7a2 (Development)
  by Ian Clarke (http://freshmeat.net/users/sanity/)
  Tue, Jan 29th 2008 11:05

Communications
Internet

About: Freenet is a peer-to-peer network designed to allow the
distribution of information over the Internet in an efficient manner,
without fear of censorship. It is completely decentralized (there is no
person or computer essential to its operation), meaning that Freenet
cannot be attacked like centralized peer-to-peer systems such as Napster.
Freenet also employs intelligent routing and caching to learn to route
requests more efficiently, automatically mirror popular data, make network
flooding almost impossible, and move data to where it is in greatest
demand.

Changes: The user is no longer required to find other users to connect to,
if this is difficult. Many bugs have been fixed, and a lot of work has been
done on usability and resource consumption.

About: GASNet (Global-Address Space Networking) is a language-independent
low-level networking layer that provides network-independent,
high-performance communication primitives tailored for implementing
parallel global-address space SPMD languages such as UPC, Titanium, and
Co-Array Fortran. The interface is primarily intended as a compilation
target and for use by runtime library writers (as opposed to end users),
and the primary goals are high performance, interface portability, and
expressiveness.

Changes: IBM SP/LAPI was fixed to use RDMA on LAPI/Federation systems when
available. A race condition on the Myrinet/GM conduit was fixed. A
workaround was added for a thread-safety bug in CNL Portals on the Cray
XT. Environment variable scoping issues on Infiniband were fixed. Initial
high-performance collective operations using Active Messages were added.
Checking for randomized Linux VM spaces, which may restrict certain

  Tue, Jan 29th 2008 00:46

Documentation
Education
Internet

About: The goal of Hilbert II, which is in the tradition of Hilbert's
program, is the creation of a system that enables a working mathematician
to put theorems and proofs (in the formal language of predicate calculus)
into it. These proofs are automatically verified by a proof checker.
Because this system is not centrally administered and enables references
to any location on the Internet, a world wide mathematical knowledge base
could be built. It also contains information in "common mathematical
language".

Changes: External QEDEQ module references are resolved, so predicate and
function constants can be defined outside the current module and simply be
used by referencing them. Formal checking is now also applied recursive to
all required modules. To resolve external references for the LaTeX
generation the module is also checked. However if checking errors occur
the generation of LaTeX is continued.

Database
Database :: Database Engines/Servers
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: JPOX provides transparent persistence of Java objects. It fully
complies with the JDO1.0/JDO2.0/JDO2.1 specifications, as well as
implementing the JPA1 specification. It supports persistence to all of the
major RDBMS on the market today, as well as DB4O. It allows querying using
either JDOQL, SQL, or JPQL. It comes with its own byte-code enhancer. Its
1.1 release is Sun's "Reference Implementation" (RI) for JDO2.0, and its
1.2 release is the RI for JDO2.1. It is highly extensible using OSGi
technology.

Changes: Support for JDOQL and JPQL subqueries has been added along with
support for JPQL IN, ESCAPE, TRIM, CURRENT_DATE, CURRENT_TIME, and
CURRENT_TIMESTAMP. JPOX extensions have been added to allow more control
over generated SQL for problematic JDOQL queries. Several bugs have been
fixed. Full compliance with JDO2.1 has been achieved.

About: Votorola is software for hosting open elections. It implements an
electoral system that sits outside of government and beyond the control of
parties. Its voter lists are backed by a trust network that is rooted in
community neighbourhoods. It enables voters to advance their own
candidates for public office, their own policies for executive action, and
their own legislative bills for statutory law.

Changes: A snapshot facility for electoral registers was added to
'vosnap'. The voting mechanism (delegate cascade) was grounded in theory,
and its design was documented.
