[001] - AgileWiki 1.0.3 (CowDb)
by Bill la Forge (http://freshmeat.net/users/laforge49/)
Wed, Jan 30th 2008 09:07
Database
Documentation
Information Management
About: AgileWiki is a program that explores new knowledge representation.
It is an attempt to implement, at least in part, Norm Kashdan's Rolonic
Theory, a profoundly different approach to time and knowledge
representation. CowDb is a high-speed object store over which the next
generation of AgileWiki will be written. COODBMS is a Copy-on-write OODBMS
based on Rolonics.
Changes: A bug in the up method when an index uses internal nodes was
fixed. The PNode owner() method, to which internal nodes are transparent,
was introduced. The boolean isRole(String roleName) method was added to
PObject.

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Capture/Recording
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio
About: The Advanced Linux Sound Architecture is composed of several parts.
The first is a fully modularized sound driver which supports module
autoloading, devfs, isapnp autoconfiguration, and gives complete access to
analog audio, digital audio, control, mixer, synthesizer, DSP, MIDI, and
timer components of audio hardware. It also includes a fully-featured
kernel-level sequencer, a full compatibility layer for OSS/Free
applications, an object-oriented C library which covers and enhances the
ALSA kernel driver functionality for applications (client/server, plugins,
PCM sharing/multiplexing, PCM metering, etc.), an interactive configuration
program for the driver, and some simple utilities for basic management.
Changes: Many fixes and updates were made.

[004] - audio-checker 1.5
by hadji (http://freshmeat.net/users/hadji/)

Education
Multimedia :: Graphics :: 3D Modeling
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Analysis
About: The aim of auch (audio-checker) is to visualize harmonics in
musical recordings. Many tools show the spectrum, but this tool focuses on
one or two specific octaves, with an indication of the tonica,
sub-dominant(IV), and dominant(V). This way, notes, chords, and harmonics
in a musical piece become clearer. It also supports other types of
transformation (like wavelets, surface waves, strings, resampling, etc).
Another feature is that this tool can compare incoming and outgoing audio
to test external filters.
Changes: This version adds surface waves to the tool. Both transformation
and visualization of sound on different surfaces (such as rectangle,
circle, hexagon, and triangle) are supported. The results are known as
"Chlandi patterns". The transform supports both pre-recorded as live
sound, so you can have an open microphone visualizing sounds. The
documentation gives you a how-to, some examples, and a movie.

Software Development
Software Development :: Documentation
About: Epydoc is a tool for generating API documentation for Python
modules, based on their inline documentation strings (docstrings). It
produces HTML output (similar to the output produced by Javadoc) and LaTeX
output. It supports four markup languages for documentation strings:
Epytext, Javadoc, ReStructuredText, and plain text.
Changes: This version of epydoc can use both introspection and source code
parsing to extract documentation information about Python modules, and it
can combine information from both sources. This is important because each
source has its own advantages and disadvantages with respect to the other.

Printing
About: foo2hiperc is a printer driver for printers that use the HIPERC
wire protocol for their print data, such as the Oki C3400n and the Oki
C5500n. It uses Ghostscript to perform all of the heavy lifting (image
processing). There are five major components: foo2hiperc (the page image
to protocol conversion engine of the driver); foo2hiperc-wrapper (runs
ghostscript and foo2hiperc in a pipeline); icc2ps (converts an ICM color
profile to a Postscript CRD, which is then fed into Ghostscript before the
user's Postscript program); foomatic-db (foomatic database entries that
describe the supported printers and their options so that printer spoolers
know how to access the printer using foo2hiperc-wrapper); and hipercdecode

Desktop Environment :: Gnome
Desktop Environment :: Tools
Multimedia :: Graphics
About: GPicView is a simple and fast image viewer with low memory usage.
It's aimed at replacing the default image viewer of current desktop
systems. Fast startup, low memory usage, and a simple user interface make
it a good choice for a default viewer. It is extremely lightweight and
fast with low memory usage, has a simple and intuitive interface, minimal
library dependencies (only GTK+ is used), and doesn't require any specific
desktop environment. It was inspired by the Windows XP image viewer and
gimmage.
Changes: There are no exciting new features or important bugfixes, but the
ugly icons were replaced with better ones. Support was added for the zh_CN,
fr, and nl locales. In addition, now you can set GPicView as the default
viewer of supported image types from the preference dialog. (xdg-mime is

Software Development :: Object Brokering
About: Granite Data Services (GDS) is an alternative to Adobe LiveCycle
(Flex 2) Data Services for J2EE application servers. It is not, however, a
drop-in replacement: you won't be able to simply deploy a Flex 2 Data
Services application into a Granite Data Services server without
modifications. The main goal of this project is to provide a framework for
Flex 2/EJB3/Spring/Seam/Guice/Pojo application development with full
AMF3/RemoteObject benefits. It has a Data Push feature implemented as AMF3
requests sent over HTTP (Comet).
Changes: This release brings a new Data Push feature (Gravity) implemented
as AMF3 data sent over HTTP (Comet, freely based on the Bayeux protocol),
full Spring integration with Acegi security and EJB 3, new JBoss/Seam
integration with Identity security support, and new Google Guice/Warp
integration. Gas3 (the ActionScript3 code generator) has been also
substantially improved: the use of Groovy 1.5 gives better performance,
and Gas3 1.0 brings extended support for Enum and all kinds of EJB 3.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
About: ModSecurity is an intrusion detection and prevention engine for Web
applications (sometimes called a Web application firewall). Operating
embedded or as part of an Apache reverse proxy, it increases Web
application security, protecting Web applications from known and unknown
attacks. It is flexible and easy to configure. It monitors HTTP traffic
(including POST payloads), detects or prevents attacks, enhances logging,
performs anti-evasion, and allows administrators to create custom rules to
suit their specific needs. It excels in HTTP traffic monitoring and
just-in-time vulnerability patching.
Changes: This release offers a number of means for enhancing the
performance of rules. It includes set-based matching, a wide variety of
string matching operators, transformation caching, support for writing
rules as Lua scripts, credit card number validation, enhanced means for
maintaining and customizing third party rulesets, and quite a few other
features.

[030] - Mother of all gravity games 1.94
by Bernhard Trummer (http://freshmeat.net/users/slash42/)
Wed, Jan 30th 2008 13:15
Games/Entertainment :: Arcade
About: Mother of all gravity games (Moagg) combines several game genres
such as races, search and rescue, seek and destroy, etc. into a 2D gravity
game. You are the pilot of a small spaceship, and have to navigate through
different levels. Beside the gravity that drags you down, there are other
obstacles like magnets, black holes, cannons, rockets, tanks, etc.
Changes: This release adds support for two difficulty levels: 'hard' (like
in previous versions) and 'easy', where the ship is moving a bit slower. A
simple language selection screen was added on initial game startup. The
language can also be changed later in the Settings menu.

by verontaka (http://freshmeat.net/users/verontaka/)
Wed, Jan 30th 2008 08:16
Database
Database :: Front-Ends
About: MyJgui is a GUI (graphical user interface) for MySQL. It aims to be
easy to use for new users as well as experts. You can store multiple
connections that can be used simultaneously. Stored passwords are
encrypted using symmetric encryption. Underlying databases and tables are
displayed in a tree structure with the connections being the first level
nodes. MyJgui is capable of easy data manipulation through a grid. It has
a unique feature of bookmarking parametrical queries (sqlmarks). The
documentation (user guide) is quite comprehensive and kept up-to-date.
Changes: A new option to prompt for a password was added in the
preferences. The alias from connection details is shown in the database
tree instead of server.port.login. New items were added in the table node
popup menu: show create table, analyze table, and rows count. The "Load
SQL console from file" menu item was added. A new checkbox that selects
whether to use a limit was added. In the quicksearch dialog, you can use a
keyboard shortcut "Alt+Enter" to apply a search. Bugfixes: Inserting and
updating the Date and Timestamp columns were fixed. Committing a change in
the current cell after pressing the commit button was fixed.

[033] - ns4 4.0(5)
by Chris Mason (http://freshmeat.net/users/chrimaso/)
Wed, Jan 30th 2008 08:40
Utilities
About: ns4 is a configuration management tool which allows the automated
backup of just about anything, but it was designed for routers and
switches. If you are able to log into it through a CLI, you can back it
up. Commands are defined within a configuration file, and when they are
executed, the output is sent to a series of FTP servers for archiving. As
well as archiving configurations, it allows scripts to be run on nodes;
this allows configurations to be applied en masse and allows conditional
logic so different bits of scripts are run on different nodes.
Changes: Support for multi-hop proxy was introduced, which allows you to
chain multiple proxies together before you attempt to login to the node.
Terminator support under proxy was introduced and the user is allowed to
specify the logout command for the proxy and the node. Various bugfixes
and cosmetic cleanups were made.

by Michael Brown (http://freshmeat.net/users/tipt0e/)
Wed, Jan 30th 2008 06:58
System :: Networking :: LDAP
About: uxdstools is a set of Unix directory service tools. It is a suite
of command tools to administer POSIX user and group accounts in an LDAP
directory. It is similar in spirit to the useradd/mod/del tools found on
Linux and Solaris, the pw tools on BSD, the mk|ch|rmuser/group tools on
AIX, etc. However, instead of manipulating local accounts, uxdstools
manages POSIX-type accounts that can be found in LDAP directory services
installations, namely those with posixAccount and posixGroup attributes.
Changes: memberUids can now be added and deleted from group accounts with
lgroupmod. Man pages were created for each executable. Password options
(-p/-P) now work with -c when GSSAPI is enabled. The creds cache will be
placed where the -c argument input specifies. Upon primary group
membership change, the gidNumber is updated in the user account to reflect
the change.
