[001] - Aeolus 0.2
  by Björn Andersson (http://freshmeat.net/users/bjornandersson/)
  Tue, Mar 11th 2008 09:19

Multimedia :: Graphics

About: Aeolus is an effort to create a platform for displaying and
animating 2D graphics using Cairo as a backend. The language used is C++,
creating an object-oriented design borrowing heavily from Crystal Space.
This makes the project very modular and helps people to extend and reuse
the code as they see fit.

Changes: The project has now changed direction from being a standalone
platform to being integrated with Crystal Space as a library with
plug-ins. Thus, major changes have been made since the last release. The
code is now more well written and a lot of documentation has been added.
However, it is not close to being usable yet.

Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization
Text Processing :: Linguistic

About: Algraeph is a tool for manual alignment of linguistic graphs, such
as phrase structure trees or dependency structures, where each node
corresponds to a subsequence of the analyzed input sentence. It allows you
to express the similarity between two graphs by aligning their nodes and
attaching relation labels to these alignments. Graphs are read from one or
more graphbanks (or treebanks) in the GraphML or Alpino formats. Alignment
relations are user-defined and are stored in a simple XML format, which
can be used for further processing. The resulting parallel graph corpus is
a useful data set for many tasks in computational linguistics and natural
language processing.

System :: Filesystems
System :: Operating System Kernels

About: NTFS-3G is a stable read/write NTFS driver. It is available for
over 130 Linux distributions, including most major ones. Moreover, it has
been ported to other operating systems like FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenSolaris,
Haiku, and Mac OS X, and to big-endian and 64-bit computer architectures.

Changes: This release fixes 'dev' and 'suid' mount option handling,
failing unprivileged mounts, minor inconsistencies reported by Windows
CHKDSK, and a driver crash when one tried to open a non-existent file that
had a name at least twice as long as the one allowed by the NTFS
specification. rmdir(2) returns the more common ENOTEMPTY instead of
EEXIST, which solves the Nautilus recursive directory removal errors, and
uses the 'dev' and 'suid' mount options as the default for root mounts,

  by Moritz Barsnick (http://freshmeat.net/users/barsnick/)
  Tue, Mar 11th 2008 03:07

Desktop Environment :: Fonts

About: The goal of the Pango project is to provide an Open Source
framework for the layout and rendering of internationalized text. It uses
Unicode for all of its encoding, and will eventually support output in all
the world's major languages.

Changes: Rendering with changing Cairo matrices was made much faster. The
"vkrn" GPOS feature in vertical writing was added. Various optimizations
and cleanups were made in the OpenType Layout engine. The HarfBuzz code
was cleaned up. A crossed box is now rendered instead of an ASCII question
mark for each invalid input byte to pango_layout_set_text(). A new public
API, pango_layout_set_height(), was added, along with several other API
functions. New "--height" and "--single-par" command-line arguments were
added to pango-view. Many bugs were fixed.

[038] - SQLObject 0.10.0 (Stable)
  by Oleg Broytmann (http://freshmeat.net/users/phd/)
  Tue, Mar 11th 2008 06:49

Database
Software Development
Software Development :: Libraries

About: SQLObject is an object-relational mapper, i.e., a library that will
wrap your database tables in Python classes, and your rows in Python
instances. It currently supports MySQL through the 'MySQLdb' package,
PostgreSQL through the 'psycopg' package, SQLite, Firebird, MaxDB (SAP
DB), MS SQL, and Sybase. It should support Python versions back to 2.2.

Changes: SQLObject now requires Python 2.3. SQLObject.select() (i.e.,
SelectResults) and DBConnection.queryForSelect() use SQLBuilder Select
queries. This means that all SELECTs are implemented internally via a
single mechanism that supports all options. SQLBuilder ImportProxy was
added, which allows one to ignore the circular import issues.
SelectResults.throughTo was added, which allows one to traverse Joins via
SQL, avoiding the intermediate objects. ViewSQLObject was added.
MySQLConnection (and DB URI) accept a number of SSL-related parameters.

[044] - Virt Install 0.300.3
  by Daniel Berrange (http://freshmeat.net/users/danielpb/)
  Tue, Mar 11th 2008 02:08

System :: Systems Administration

About: Virt Install is a command line tool built on top of libvirt that
facilitates installation of virtual machines. It supports installation of
fully-virtualized Xen guest machines for arbitrary operating systems and
installation of Xen paravirtualized Fedora/RHEL operating systems. The
tool takes care of fetching the guest kernels, creating file based disk
images, and booting the guest operating system installer media.

Changes: When probing for OS distribution type, the tool now tests for the
existence of files rather than fetching the entire file. RFC-compliant NFS
URIs are accepted and converted where needed. When probing for Red Hat
distribution variants, the "treeinfo" file is sought to determine
initrd/kernel locations. User friendly errors are shown instead of stack
traces, and bogus libvirt error messages are hidden from the console. A
--noreboot flag was added to virt-install to prevent the automatic reboot
at the end of install. The libvirt capabilities XML is used to determine
the guest types supported by a hypervisor. A --force option was added to
prevent any interactive prompting.

[045] - Virtual Machine Manager 0.5.4
  by Daniel Berrange (http://freshmeat.net/users/danielpb/)
  Tue, Mar 11th 2008 02:11

System :: Systems Administration

About: The Virtual Machine Manager (virt-manager for short) is a desktop
application for managing virtual machines. Since it uses libvirt, it is
capable of managing machines from any hypervisor supported by libvirt. Xen
is the current primary target. The application's views provide summaries
and detailed statistics on performance and resource utilization. A wizard
facilitates creation of new guest domains, both para-virtualized and
fully-virtualized. Console access is enabled either to a text based serial
console or fully graphical access via an embedded VNC client.

Changes: Smooth resize of the guest console, support for all libvirt
authentication methods including Kerberos and PolicyKit, a Solaris
portability fix for the text console, and support for detecting bonding
and VLAN devices for attaching guest NICs. fullvirt guests are now allowed
to install off kernel and initrd as well as existing CD-ROM methods.
Invocation of DBus methods was fixed to use an interface. Setting of
autostart flag and changing boot device ordering is now allowed. New VM
creation is controlled based on declared hypervisor capabilities.

[046] - Virtual Machine Viewer 0.0.3
  by Daniel Berrange (http://freshmeat.net/users/danielpb/)
  Tue, Mar 11th 2008 02:06

System :: Systems Administration

About: Virtual Machine Viewer (virt-viewer) is a lightweight interface for
interacting with the graphical display of a virtualized guest OS. It uses
GTK-VNC and libvirt to look up the VNC server details associated with the
guest. It is intended as a replacement for the traditional vncviewer
client, since the latter does not support SSL/TLS encryption of x509
certificate authentication.

Changes: Accelerators are now blocked when keyboard grab is active.
Password characters are hidden in text entry fields. The domain name is
used in the title bar. The guest console can be resized using smooth
hardware accelerated scaling. An experimental Firefox plugin for accessing
a console from a Web browser was provided.

[047] - WANPIPE 3.2.4 (Stable)
  by imipak (http://freshmeat.net/users/imipak/)
  Tue, Mar 11th 2008 12:06

Communications
System :: Networking
System :: Operating System

About: WANPIPE S-series is a family of intelligent multi-protocol WAN and
ADSL adapters that support data transfer rates up to 8Mbps. All WAN
protocols supported by WANPIPE are implemented in firmware and run on the
card. An advantage of an intelligent adapter is that it offloads the
system CPU and improves stability. By adding a Sangoma WAN/ADSL component
to the Linux kernel, one can create a powerful multi-T1/ADSL
router/firewall with proven reliability of Linux. Sangoma S-series cards
support an optional on board T1/E1 CSU/DSU that eliminates all external
components of a traditional routing solution: i.e. T1/E1 line can be
directly connected to the card. WANPIPE supports the following protocols,
ATM, ADSL, Frame Relay, PPP, MULTILINK PPP, CHDLC, X25(API), BitStreaming
(API), BiSync(API), and SDLC(API). Furthermore, WANPIPE supports custom
API development such as: Credit card verification, Voice-over IP,
Satellite Comm. All device drivers are part of the standard Linux Kernel
distribution.

Changes: Initial update for 2.6.24 kernels. Bugfixes for the TDM API.
Updated for Zaptel 1.4.9. Support for AFT IRQ throttling. Support for
tapping voice channels during Asterisk-Zaptel/TMD at the kernel level. AFT
software ring buffers on A200/A400 analog cards.

[049] - ziproxy 2.5.1
  by Daniel Mealha Cabrita (http://freshmeat.net/users/dancab/)
  Tue, Mar 11th 2008 02:00

Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: Ziproxy is a high-performance forwarding (non-caching) HTTP proxy
that gzips text and HTML files, and reduces the size of images by
converting them to lower quality JPEGs or JPEG 2000. It is intended to
increase the speed for low-speed Internet connections (mobile, dial-up,
other). It's suitable for both home and professional usage. Ziproxy is
fully configurable and also features transparent proxy mode, HTML/JS/CSS
optimization, operation in daemon mode, a detailed access log with
compression statistics, basic authentication, and more.

Changes: This release fixed an issue where non-processable (htmlopt etc)
data that came already gzipped was loaded into memory and recompressed. It
is now streamed directly, unmodified. This should improve latency in
certain cases.
