[001] - Adventure-(PHP-)Framework 1.6-RC1-16.03.2008-php4_php5
  by Christian Achatz (http://freshmeat.net/users/ChristianAchatz/)
  Sun, Mar 16th 2008 15:12

Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: The Adventure-(PHP-)Framework is a Web development framework that
helps you design and create object oriented and reusable PHP Web
applications. It features a unique DOM model, the generic page controller
component, and a set of shipped XML tag libraries to build GUIs based on
XML/HTML templates. The framework core contains components like front
controller, global benchmark concept, global error handling, and a
configuration management class. It includes complete modules like a
guestbook, a comment function, and a generic pager.

Changes: This release nearly contains all features of the 1.6 series, and
is meant to be a bugfix version as well as a preview version. It is
considered stable as long as the new features (connectionManager and
SessionSingleton) are not used within any application. Major features or
changes are: new abstraction of the database access layer
(connectionManager), a new abstract session singleton class, an update to
the ServiceManager's methods, an update to some parts of the
documentation, a bugfix to the pagerManager's method getPager(), and a
bugfix to the MySQLHandler class.

  Sun, Mar 16th 2008 10:55

Office/Business :: Financial
Software Development :: Libraries

About: AqBanking is a modular and generic interface to online banking
tasks, financial file formats (import/export) and bank/country/currency
information. It provides frontends for Qt, KDE, GTK, and console.
AqBanking uses backend plugins to actually perform the online tasks. HBCI,
OFX DirectConnect, YellowNet, GeldKarte, and DTAUS discs are currently
supported. AqBanking is used by GnuCash, KMyMoney,and QBankManager.

Changes: This release fixes many bugs, especially in the HBCI code.
AqBanking has begun to manage CryptToken (because this is now used in two
backends). This release requires Gwenhywfar 3.2.0 or better.

Database :: API
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

About: aurora framework is a slim modular MVC framework written in PHP
5.2+ for rapid development of Web or console applications featuring an
integrated database API, template logic, pretty URLs,
internationalization, caching, data models, and a multi-layered file tree.

Changes: This release fixes many small bugs, cleans up code at several key
points, and changes the template var-replacer to not reduce escape signs
step by step. The URL dispatcher also supplies GET, POST, and URL arrays
to entry points. ama can now create helper files that are not bound to any
package. aurora::emsg and aurora::_die throw an usable backtrace unless
quiet is enabled. web's error-page works again. This release has been
tested under PHP 5.2.5, and support for PHP < 5.2.3 has been dropped.

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Libraries

About: Cibyl is a programming environment that allows compiled C/C++
programs to execute on J2ME-capable phones. Cibyl uses GCC to compile
programs to MIPS binaries, and these are then translated into Java
bytecode. The use of binary translation and the simplicity of translating
MIPS instructions means that Cibyl programs can be quite well-performing.
With Cibyl, programs written in C/C++ can be ported to J2ME without
switching languages.

Changes: The binary translator has been reimplemented in C++, improving
compilation performance greatly. GCC tail-call optimizations and delay
slot branch targets are handled. Some build system changes were made.

  Sun, Mar 16th 2008 15:23

Software Development
Software Development :: Libraries

About: ConfigLib is a C++ library for reading and writing standard Unix
and Windows .INI configuration files as easily as declaring a variable. It
provides all the objects necessary to read any setting from a configuration
file and write out changes while preserving comments. Using templates, any
serializable object or primitive can be read from a configuration file and
parsed automatically via the command line. It also includes common objects
for handling settings beyond those of the C primitives.

Changes: The initial release of the project includes objects for reading
and writing a configuration file setting, or a map of settings from a
complete section. It also has objects for reading colors and IP addresses
using a variety of common formats.

[009] - dir2cast 1.0
  by benxo (http://freshmeat.net/users/benxo/)
  Sun, Mar 16th 2008 18:44

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio

About: dir2cast is a Web-based script to turn a directory of MP3s into a
podcast automatically. It will automatically use the ID3 fields from your
MP3s for the Author, Title, and similar fields in the podcast feed. ID3v2
is supported. The generated feed is cached and only updated if something
in the directory changes. The generated feeds have almost full support for
iTunes podcast tags. RSS Description, iTunes Subtitle, and iTunes Summary
can be set by dropping text files in the same folder.

Changes: There are fixes for some minor ID3 bugs. The code path has been
optimised for the most common case, in particular eliminating unnecessary
ini reading at startup.

Desktop Environment :: Window Managers :: MetaCity

About: DynamicWorkspaces is a small utility designed to dynamically adjust
the number of workspaces (some call them virtual desktops) on your desktop.
It will create or delete workspaces such that you always have one workspace
free. You can also tell the program to keep at least n workspaces, no
matter the number of windows opened (for example, to have at least 3
workspaces, plus at least one free). A common use for DynamicWorkspaces is
to tell your window manager to launch it when you log in, so you just use
it and forget about it.

[013] - Hammock 1.2
  by Ernest Hammingweight (http://freshmeat.net/users/hammingweight/)
  Sun, Mar 16th 2008 23:33

Software Development :: Testing

About: Hammock is a mock object framework for J2ME devices. It is used in
conjunction with unit test frameworks like JMUnit and J2MEUnit. The
framework includes mocks for many of the J2ME UI and I/O classes as well
as a utility, HammockMaker, for generating mocks of other classes.

Changes: The HammockMaker utility is now an Ant task. This simplifies the
creation of the mock object source files. In particular, the mock objects
can now be built as part of a script for compiling, testing, and deploying
a MIDlet or library. HammockMaker also generates additional constructors
for mock objects, which makes it simpler to set up the mock objects in
unit tests. A detailed example, ObjectStreams, has been added to show how
to test effectively with Hammock.

chunks (knots) and make links between them. Visual organisation is not
enforced: links can be drawn arbitrarily. With Knotview, only the user
decides how the information must be shown. Creating links pointing towards
files or URLs is possible, and make it very easy to gather scattered
information into a single place. Knotview can be used as a powerful

[026] - Mnemosyne Project 1.0.1
  by Peter Bienstman (http://freshmeat.net/users/pbienst/)
  Sun, Mar 16th 2008 05:05

Education :: Computer Aided Instruction (CAI)

About: The Mnemosyne software resembles a traditional flash card program
to help you memorize question/answer pairs, but with an important twist:
it uses a sophisticated algorithm to schedule the best time for a card to
come up for review. Difficult cards that you tend to forget quickly will
be scheduled more often, while Mnemosyne won't waste your time on things
you remember well.

Changes: Grade 0 was made the keyboard default for cards with previous
grades of 0 or 1. Support was added for HTML-style escaped Unicode when
importing plain text, to allow importing of Supermemo databases containing
Unicode. Importing of Supermemo for Palm databases that were converted to
XML by smconv.pl is supported. Importing of tab delimited files was made
more robust. On Windows, errors are logged to a file in the user's
directory, as opposed to a file in a system directory. Grades 0 and 1 are
visually distinguished from other grades. Czech, Chinese, and French
translations were made.

  Sun, Mar 16th 2008 15:00

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Graphics Conversion
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers

About: These are the demo programs that accompany O'Reilly's "PNG: The
Definitive Guide." rpng is a simple file viewer with the ability to set a
background color when displaying transparent PNGs. rpng2 is a progressive
PNG viewer, designed to work like a web browser (though it contains no
network code); it can generate a background image when displaying
transparent PNGs. wpng is a simple converter from NetPBM to PNG format; in
most respects it is much more limited than pnmtopng, but it supports
interactive entry of PNG text annotations and will generate noninterlaced
PNGs on the fly (rather than buffering the entire image first like
pnmtopng). The viewers include simple front ends for both X and Win32; the
converter is a command-line app that compiles on Unix, Windows, and
probably other platforms.

Changes: This release fixes the handling of truncated or partly unreadable
image files, and tweaks the display of the usage screen to make error
messages more noticeable.

System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions :: CD-Based

About: The STUBS Toolchain and Utility Build Suite is a set of scripts
designed to build one or more software packages by means of a pre-written
set of configuration files. Each configuration file encapsulates the
necessary build and install commands for a given package, and URLs are
included so source and patches can be downloaded as necessary. STUBS is
designed to both bootstrap and work within the Franki/Earlgrey Linux
environment (an extensible busybox and uClibc-based Linux boot floppy
produced by one of several example STUBS configurations).

Changes: This Scripts release fixes a bug in 'mogul' where "release
candidate" version numbers caused unsuitable initrd image filenames to be
generated. A disk image built with this new version is now available.

[039] - sysstat 8.1.2
  by Sébastien Godard (http://freshmeat.net/users/godard/)
  Sun, Mar 16th 2008 05:09

System :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration

About: The sysstat package contains the sar, sadf, iostat, mpstat, and
pidstat commands for Linux. The sar command collects and reports system
activity information. The statistics reported by sar concern I/O transfer
rates, paging activity, process-related activites, interrupts, network
activity, memory and swap space utilization, CPU utilization, kernel
activities, and TTY statistics, among others. The sadf command may be used
to display data collected by sar in various formats. The iostat command
reports CPU statistics and I/O statistics for tty devices and disks. The
pidstat command reports statistics for Linux processes. The mpstat command
reports global and per-processor statistics.

Changes: Iostat displays read and write operations per second in the NFS
report. Sadc now retries to write its buffers when the write() call has
been interrupted by a signal. The -h option has been added to sadf: used
with the -d or -D options, it indicates that all activities should be
displayed horizontally on a single line of data. Sadf -d and sadf -D now
display the list of fields for easier data reading. NLS has been updated,
adding a Chinese (Simplified) translation.

System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions :: CD-Based
System :: Recovery Tools

About: SystemRescueCd is a Linux system available from a bootable CDROM
that provides an easy way to perform administrative tasks on your
computer, such as creating and editing the partitions of the hard disk or
backing up data. It contains a lot of system utilities (such as parted,
partimage, and fstools), and basic programs (such as editors, midnight
commander, and network tools). It also includes GParted, a Partition Magic
clone that makes editing partitions easy with its graphical user interface.
This CDROM aims to be very easy to use and accessible to everybody, and it
also provides advanced personalization features.

Changes: This release also works on old i486/i586 processors. Xvesa has
been added as an alternative graphical server to use when Xorg fails. A
64-bits alternative kernel (altker64) has been added. All the initramfs
igz files have been merged into a single initram.igz file. The PXE boot
can now download the sysrcd.dat file using the tftp protocol. Bugs in the
network configuration boot options (ethx, dodhcp, and gateway) have been
fixed. This release upgrades the default kernel to Linux 2.6.24.02 with
Reiser4 and btrfs 0.12, app-admin/testdisk to 6.9, sys-block/gparted to
0.3.5, and sys-fs/ntfs3g to 1.2216. Other systems tools have been added

[042] - tig 0.10
  by Jonas Fonseca (http://freshmeat.net/users/fonseca/)
  Sun, Mar 16th 2008 23:04

Software Development :: User Interfaces
Software Development :: Version Control
Utilities

About: Tig is a git repository browser that additionally can act as a
pager for output from various git commands. When browsing repositories, it
uses the underlying git commands to present the user with various views,
such as a summarized revision log and showing the commit with the log
message, diffstat, and the diff. Using it as a pager, it will display
input from stdin and colorize it.

Changes: This release brings many documentation improvements, bugfixes,
and some much needed updates to work better with git. On startup, tig will
now attempt to first read a system-wide configuration file before loading
the user specific configuration file. Cherry picking from inside tig has
been generalized, making it possible to wire external commands, which can
access information about the current commit, to a keybinding. Finally,
option parsing has been changed to be more similar to gitk's.

[046] - XHTML Hyphenator 1.0
  by Thiton (http://freshmeat.net/users/Thiton/)
  Sun, Mar 16th 2008 19:47

Text Processing :: Markup :: HTML/XHTML

About: XHTML Hyphenator is a filter for XHTML documents that will insert
soft hyphens at the proper hyphenation points. It will hyphenate all words
in text nodes that are children of nodes in the XHTML namespace and not
part of the header (or, long story short, the text part of an XHTML
document and nothing else). The hyphenation pattern used is derived from
the xml:lang attribute governing the text. Soft hyphens are displayed
correctly by most modern browsers and not at all by Mozilla Firefox, so
you won't break anything by inserting hyphens, and it improves the text
appearance considerably.

[048] - XySSL 0.9
  by Christophe Devine (http://freshmeat.net/users/devine10/)
  Sun, Mar 16th 2008 08:20

Security
Security :: Cryptography
System :: Networking

About: XySSL is a cryptographic library written in C. It currently
features several ciphers (AES, Triple-DES, and ARC4), hash functions
(MD{2,4,5}, SHA-1, and SHA-256), and RSA and X.509 reading support. It
also implements the Secure Sockets Layer version 3 protocol (SSLv3), as
well as the Transport Layer Security version 1 protocol.

Changes: This releases includes two major security bugfixs: the SSL/TLS
server code was vulnerable to Daniel Bleichenbacher attack on PKCS#1 v1.5
padding, which could lead to the disclosure of the server's private RSA
key. Version 0.9 also corrects a critical bug in the x509 certificate
verification code, which would cause an infinite loop if the peer provides
a certificate with an invalid RSA signature.
