[004] - Auto Project Planner 2.1.1.0 (APP.NET)
  by don.didi (http://freshmeat.net/users/dondidi/)
  Sun, Jul 27th 2008 15:46

Office/Business
Office/Business :: CRM
Office/Business :: Scheduling

About: Auto Project Planner automatically calculates a proper project plan
based on your effort estimations and the due dates you have in mind. A list
of tasks and a list of employees can be defined. Tasks can be assigned to
one or more employees. It is also possible to define a maximum percentage
value an employee can/should work on a task. Public holidays, leaves,
weekly working hours, and more parameters can be specified and are
considered in the calculation. According to this input, the software
computes time plans by minimizing the MSE (mean squared error) between
expected and computed end dates.

Changes: The color of newly created tasks couldn't be changed, and thus no
color was used in the calculation output diagram. This and some other
smaller bugs were fixed.

About: LaTeX::Table is a Perl module that provides functionality for an
intuitive generation of LaTeX tables for reports or theses. It ships with
some predefined, good-looking table styles, and supports multipage tables
via the xtab package.

[030] - libvcvideo 1.0.1
  by John Hobbs (http://freshmeat.net/users/jmhobbs/)
  Sun, Jul 27th 2008 19:25

Multimedia :: Video
Multimedia :: Video :: Capture
Multimedia :: Video :: Display

About: libvcvideo is targeted as a super-simple cross platform video
device library. It's starting with the most basic features and building up,
all while keeping a simple API and strong documentation for beginners.
Currently only select devices are supported, but as more hardware becomes
available that will change. Right now it only has limited compatibility
with Linux Webcam devices that use the original V4L specifications and
output RGB24 data. This is actually a very large set of devices, as that is
the generic description for most spca5xx and gspca devices. Though
incomplete, if you have the right device it is very simple. Counting
variable declaration, you only need four lines of library code to get a
frame from a camera.

Changes: Some Web cams work, as do basic effects.

About: Python Audio Tools is a collection of audio handling programs that
work from the command line. These include programs for CD extraction, track
conversion from one audio format to another, track renaming and retagging,
track identification, CD burning from tracks, and more. It supports
internationalized track filenames and metadata using Unicode. It works with
high-definition, multi-channel audio as well as CD-quality. Track
conversion uses multiple CPUs or CPU cores if available to greatly speed
the transcoding process. Track metadata can be retrieved from FreeDB or
FreeDB-compatible servers. Audio formats supported are WAV, FLAC, WavPack,
MP3, Ogg Vorbis, M4A, and more.

Changes: MP3 encoding and decoding was fixed to support LAME 3.98.

[044] - Rats! 1.14.0
  by Robert Grimm (http://freshmeat.net/users/rgrimmm/)
  Sun, Jul 27th 2008 06:47

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers

About: Rats! is a parser generator for C-like languages (though currently
it only generates parsers in Java). It has been designed so that grammars
are concise and easily extensible. To this end, grammars are organized into
modules that can be easily changed by adding, removing, or modifying
alternatives in individual productions and composed with each other through
module parameters. Furthermore, it relies on ordered choices to avoid
ambiguities, supports syntactic predicates for unlimited lookahead, and
integrates lexing with parsing. Finally, it has extensive support for
automatically generating abstract syntax trees, thus greatly reducing the
need for explicit semantic actions.

Changes: This release introduces Blink, a mixed-mode Java/native debugger.

[045] - rdiff-backup 1.2.0
  by Andrew Ferguson (http://freshmeat.net/users/adferguson/)
  Sun, Jul 27th 2008 16:29

System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Archiving :: Mirroring
Utilities

About: rdiff-backup backs up one directory to another. The target
directory ends up a copy of the source directory, but extra reverse diffs
are stored in a special directory so you can still recover files lost some
time ago. The idea is to combine the best features of a mirror and an
incremental backup. rdiff-backup can also operate in a bandwidth- efficient
manner over a pipe, like rsync. Thus you can use rdiff-backup and ssh to
securely back up to a remote location, and only the differences will be
transmitted. It can also handle symlinks, device files, permissions,
ownership, etc., so it can be used on the entire file system.

Changes: This is the new stable branch of rdiff-backup, representing
almost three years of development releases. From the previous development
release, this release includes two fixes for Unicode issues. From the
previous stable release, this release features a large number of new
features, including SHA1 checksums, native Windows support, improved Mac OS
X and Cygwin support, better filesystem support for HFS+, NFS, SSHFS, SMB,
CIFS, AFS, NTFS, and FAT32, and better handling of unreadable or
pathological file permissions. It also includes the previously separate
'rdiff-backup-statistics' tool.

[048] - Splashy 0.3.11
  by lemsx1 (http://freshmeat.net/users/lems1/)
  Sun, Jul 27th 2008 07:39

About: Splashy is a boot splash program that doesn't require patching the
Linux kernel. It paints graphic images directly to framebuffers using
libdirectfb.

Changes: chroot() was implemented as a command passed from splashy_update.
This works better with resume-from-RAM/Disk when uswsusp is used from
initramfs. It is suggested to run update-initramfs -u when a theme is
changed with splashy_config. The boot dependency argument $all was removed
from the initrc script (for LSB). The cursor in TTY consoles was turned off
to avoid showing artifacts when X starts. Other bugs were fixed.

[051] - ucommon 1.9.5
  by David Sugar (http://freshmeat.net/users/davidsugar/)
  Sun, Jul 27th 2008 07:08

Software Development :: Libraries

About: UCommon is a lightweight C++ library to facilitate using C++ design
patterns even for very deeply embedded applications, such as for systems
using uClibc along with POSIX threading support. For this reason, UCommon
disables language features that consume memory or introduce runtime
overhead. UCommon introduces some design patterns from Objective-C, such as
reference counted objects, memory pools, and smart pointers. UCommon
introduces some new concepts for handling of thread locking and
synchronization.

Changes: Scoped mutex lock guard objects were added, which can guard
arbitrary objects in memory using the mutex pool. The rwlock pool was added
for r/w access control of arbitrary objects. Simpler library versioning
conventions were added. A multi-distribution rpm spec file was added.
