  Wed, Sep 17th 2008 10:08

Database :: Database Engines/Servers
Software Development :: Version Control

About: deltasql is a tool to synchronize databases with source code, which
helps to keep database evolution under control. While developing mid-sized
or big applications, developers make changes to the data model that go
along with changes to the source code. From time to time, branches of
source code are done to stabilize the code that will go to production. A
sort of data model branch is also needed. deltasql provides a simple way to
collect all scripts that change the data model and means to handle data
model branches. The deltasql server runs on Apache and is backed by MySQL.

Changes: 0.950 has been rereleased as version 1.000 due to its stability.
The .tar.gz package was repackaged with the current Unix end of line
format.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries

About: fastcgi++ is a C++ library for developing Web applications in C++
with the FastCGI protocol. This library does not support the old CGI
protocol. It effectively manages simultaneous requests without the need for
multiple threads. Session data is organized into meaningful data types as
opposed to a series of text strings. Internationalization and Unicode
support is another priority. The library is templated to allow internal
wide character use, while converting down to UTF-8 upon transmission to the
client.

Changes: The dependence on Linux epoll socket polling has been replaced
with POSIX poll(). The code will now compile on older GCC systems. An issue
where parameters would not be processed if bunched into a single record as
mod_fcgid does has been fixed. Error handling has been refined. An internal
UTF-8 code conversion facet has been implemented to remove dependence on
functional UTF-8 locales.

Software Development
Software Development :: Build Tools
System

About: Logapp is a wrapper utility that helps supervise the execution of
applications that produce heavy console output (e.g. make, CVS, and
Subversion). It does this by logging, trimming, and coloring each line of
the output before displaying it. It can be called instead of the executable
that should be monitored; it then starts the application and logs all of
its console output to a file. The output shown in the terminal is
preprocessed, e.g. to limit the length of printed lines and to show the
stderr output in a different color. It is also possible to automatically
highlight lines that match a certain regular expression. The output is
therefore reduced to the necessary amount, and all important lines are easy
to identify.

Changes: There have been many code changes and cleanups all over the
project. Additionally, multiplier prefixes for numerical parameters have
been added, and the log file formatting has been improved.

[060] - UpStare 0.9.12
  by Kristis Makris (http://freshmeat.net/users/mkgnu/)
  Wed, Sep 17th 2008 19:50

Adaptive Technologies
Security
Software Development :: Compilers

About: UpStare is a dynamic software updating system for multi-threaded
userspace applications that applies immediate updates using stack
reconstruction. The program state and the program code are updated
immediately in a single step. It is not necessary to wait indefinitely for
a quiescent program state. A running algorithm can be updated midstream its
execution and resumed from a different point (not necessarily the
beginning) of another algorithm.

Changes: This release fixes a critical issue in the runtime in determining
which children have died and should be ignored when coordinating an update
with children. It also handles non-blocking file descriptors created with
open() and pipe(), and calls to select() with a pointer (possibly set to
NULL) timeout argument that would block indefinitely. With these changes,
the system can update PostgreSQL while multiple clients are connected to
it.

[065] - X Python Newsreader 1.2.5
  by Nemesis2001 (http://freshmeat.net/users/Nemesis2001/)
  Wed, Sep 17th 2008 09:55

Communications :: Usenet News

About: X Python Newsreader (XPN) is a multi-platform newsreader with
Unicode support. It has features like scoring/actions, X-Face and Face
decoding, muting of quoted text, newsrc import/export, find article and
search in the body, spoiler char/rot13, random taglines, and configurable
attribution lines.

Changes: The article management was rewritten, so now the articles are
stored in an SQLite database. Article management now is faster and easier.
Your xpn-1.0.0 groups and articles will be automatically imported and
converted to the new format. A filter toolbar was added that lets you
filter the articles by Subject, From, and Body content. The algorithm used
to build the discussion threads was improved. The menus and some windows
were revisited. Automatic download of headers periodically was added. Some
minor fixes and refinements were made.

[066] - x11vnc 0.9.4
  by Karl Runge (http://freshmeat.net/users/runge/)
  Wed, Sep 17th 2008 18:04

Communications :: Conferencing
Desktop Environment :: Tools
System :: Monitoring

About: x11vnc is a program that allows one to remotely view and interact
with real X displays (i.e. a display corresponding to a physical monitor,
keyboard, and mouse) with any VNC viewer. It is similar to WinVNC and is
designed to be compatible with all Unix variants and depend on a very
small set of standard libraries. It supports a growing number of command
line options, such as -nofb for dual- headed mode with Win2VNC. It is part
of the LibVNCServer project.

Changes: Reverse VNC connections now work in the X session -find and
-create modes. Reverse VNC connections (both normal and using SSL) can use
a Web proxy, a SOCKS proxy, the UltraVNC repeater proxy, an SSH connection,
or even a CGI URL to make the outgoing connection by using the -proxy
option. Support for the ZYWRLE encoding is added: it is the RealVNC ZRLE
encoding extended to do motion video and photo regions more efficiently by
way of a Wavelet based transformation. Indexed colormaps with depths other
than 8 now work properly. The Java Viewer source code is now included in
the release.

[068] - Zoom Profiler 1.2.1
  by RotateRight (http://freshmeat.net/users/rotateright/)
  Wed, Sep 17th 2008 18:06

Software Development
Software Development :: Quality Assurance
System :: Benchmark

About: Zoom is a low-overhead graphical and command line profiler for
Linux. A Zoom profile is system-wide, precise down to the instruction
level, and captures backtraces. This lets you see exactly what was running,
where time was spent, and how that code was called. Drill down into
critical code to get detailed performance data. Zoom analyzes and annotates
your code with specific tuning advice for many compilers and processors.
Share what you find with colleagues or archive it for later review. Zoom
saves profiles as a single, self-contained session file that can be emailed
or attached to bug reports. It also supports remote network profiling and
scripting.

Changes: This release adds basic profiling support for kernels 2.6.9 -
2.6.14, as well as support for Athlon XP, Pentium III, and Pentium M
processors. File search has been improved, and extended system info is now
part of session properties. Also fixed is a regression where some kernel
symbols were not resolved.
