Sat, Dec 13th 2008 18:41
About: AsmBug is a small powerful debugger for assembly language. It is
written in assembly, and connects directly to an X server. It works with
source files to present results, and also works with striped executables.
It has no dependencies and can be installed by copying. Most operations are
a single click or keystroke, and each window has a help pop-up.
Changes: AsmBug now handles window resizing for itself and the application
being debugged. Many other bugs were also fixed, along with an upgrade to
the latest library (AsmLib).

About: Cromfs is a compressed read-only filesystem for Linux. Cromfs is
best at archiving gigabytes of big files that have a lot of redundancy. It
aims primarily at achieving a strong compression, even at the cost of
memory and CPU time resources. It uses the LZMA compression algorithm from
7-zip and block merging.
Changes: This relatively minor release addresses two major bugs in recent
releases of Cromfs: A data corruption bug in mkcromfs, and compilation
problems on 32-bit platforms. All users of Cromfs versions 1.5.4.2 or later
are urged to upgrade.

[013] - ExactImage 0.6.8
by René Rebe (http://freshmeat.net/users/ReneRebe/)
Sat, Dec 13th 2008 19:24
Multimedia :: Graphics
About: ExactImage is a fast C++ image processing library. Unlike
ImageMagick, it allows operation in several color spaces and bit depths
natively, resulting in much lower memory and computational requirements.
Some optimized algorithms operate in 1/20 of the time ImageMagick requires,
and displaying large images can be as fast as 1/10 of the time the
"display" program takes.
Changes: The PDF codec was improved for lossless embedding of JPEG data
(without recompression). It was also improved to pass remaining compression
arguments down to the image codecs to control the actual image format in
finer detail. The PNM decoder was improved to accept more esoteric
whitespace combinations in the header. The Data Dependant Triangulation
scale was ported to the new image iterator. The optimized orthogonal rotate
now works for more image depths. The embedded dcraw code was updated to
version 8.89.

Internet
About: The Mobile Web Proxy is a (CGI) tool to make more Web pages
available from some mobile devices (cell phone Web browsers, etc.). It
employs tag cleaning and paging so that Web pages it can access have far
greater chances of being rendered on devices that cannot display overly
large or complex pages. It is simple, but it seems to substantially extend
the portion of the Web available from devices that otherwise display
messages like "413: Page cannot be displayed."
Changes: A bug was fixed that broke links. All users of 1.1 are encouraged
to upgrade, particularly those interested in a quick and dirty way to serve

About: Moonshiner is a graphical frontend for Ghostscript's

a very powerful instrument, it is quite challenging to use its parameters
on the command line, especially if you often change the settings as to what
kind of color conversion, image resampling, etc. you want Ghostscript to
perform. While the author has never used Adobe's Distiller, and thus cannot
really compare the two, Moonshiner (as the name suggests) is supposed to be

sysadmins for scripting purposes. The goals are that creation of a dialog
should be done in very few lines, and the output from ssd (when the user
has made his/her choice) should be simple and parseable by bash. The code
(or markup) for ssd can either be stored in a separate file or embedded in
the bash script, allowing one-file scripting.
Changes: Support for the Image option in the main window.

Software Development :: Code Generators
About: Skyway Builder Community Edition is an Eclipse-based code
generation tool for accelerating the development of Spring applications. It
can generate Spring code and artifacts either as an end-to-end solution or
for individual Spring Framework modules (DAO, ORM, MVC, Services, and
Core). Its extensible architecture leverages several Eclipse projects,
including EMF, GMF, WST, and JDT.
Changes: This release includes scaffolding capabilities that allow users
to generate a Spring-based, Java CRUD application in minutes. It has
integration with Maven for build automation, improved code generation based
on best practices, new Skyway step types for invoking external Java code
and Spring Beans, direct generation into Standard Eclipse Dynamic Web Java
Project, compatibility with SpringSource tooling (Spring IDE and Spring
STS), embedded documentation and cheatsheet tutorial, and over 300 bugfixes
and enhancements.

About: UvumiTools Dropdown Menu is a cross-browser, fully degradable,
unobtrusive dropdown menu plugin. It is very easy to use and simply adds
features and functionality to existing HTML on your site. It turns a basic
unordered list into a very nice and sturdy animated horizontal drop- down
menu.
Changes: The new "Close Delay" and "Click to Open" features were added.
This has been an extremely popular plugin, and it is very stable. These new
features give you even more options for customizing the look and feel of
your drop down menu.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
About: Werc is a minimalistic RESTful content management system
implemented as a collection of shell scripts written in the rc shell and
taking advantage of other Plan 9 tools available on *nix systems as part of
"Plan 9 from User Space". It is designed to be fast, simple, convenient,
and easily extensible (you can easily integrate your own dynamic content
with the rest of the site). It handles both small and big sites well,
including seamless multi-domain handling. All data is stored as plain text
files without need of a database and there is support for blog directories
with automatic RSS feed generation (and multi-feed aggregation).
Changes: Minor improvements and fixes were made to the file tree menu,
directory listing, and sitemap generation. The blog code was revamped,
especially the Atom and RSS feeds. Other fixes and cleanups were done.
