[001] - Ad-hoc Wireless Distribution System 8.11
by Andre Herms (http://freshmeat.net/users/onjo/)
Wed, Dec 17th 2008 14:51
System :: Networking
About: AWDS (Ad-hoc Wireless Distribution Service) is a layer 2 routing
protocol for wireless mesh networks. It provides transparent Ethernet-like
access to all participating nodes, thus easily allowing the employment of
different higher level protocols like IP (with DHCP), IPv6, AppleTalk, etc.
Changes: A new protocol format is used. Fixes were made for new compilers
and 64-bit systems. IPv6 is supported for the topology viewer. The new GEA
release is used.

Wed, Dec 17th 2008 21:40
Information Management :: Issue Tracking
Office/Business :: Scheduling
Software Development :: Bug Tracking
About: Agilefant is a backlog management system that can be used when
spreadsheets and most of the current issue tracking and project management
systems meet their limits. It is intended to be used with agile
methodologies that emphasize building releasable software in short, fixed
time periods, where features are commonly managed using "backlogs".
Changes: Business themes and reference IDs are the major features added.
Business themes are system-wide themes shared among all products. Reference
IDs enable linking Agilefant objects within the system or from external
systems. There are numerous minor improvements.

[004] - Amahi Linux Home Server 9.8 (Development 9)
by cpg (http://freshmeat.net/users/cpg/)
Wed, Dec 17th 2008 18:19
Information Management
Software Development :: Libraries :: Ruby Modules
System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions
About: The Amahi Home Server is a Linux Home Server based on Fedora (and
later on Ubuntu). Your machine becomes a "Home Digital Assistant" or HDA
after the installation. Each HDA is a Fedora-based server targeted for home
and home office environments. It provides an iTunes server, calendaring, a
wiki, shared network storage, network backups, a printer server, VPN, and a
plug-in architecture built on Ruby on Rails.
Changes: Included is a new feature to make shares default to being
group-writable, so multiple users with write access to a share can create
files and folders and can all write to them, making Amahi home server more
suitable for workgroups and small businesses. Also included is a fix where
a Web app's root directory is properly changed when the user changes it in
the Web app setup GUI.

[005] - Back In Time 0.8.18
by Dan (http://freshmeat.net/users/danleweb/)
Wed, Dec 17th 2008 14:44
System :: Archiving :: Backup
Utilities
About: Back In Time is a simple backup system for the GNOME desktop
inspired by the "flyback project" and "TimeVault". The backup is done by
taking snapshots of a specified set of directories. All you have to do is
configure: where to save snapshot, what directories to backup, and when a
backup should be done (manually, every hour, every day, every week, or
every month). It acts as a "user mode" backup system. This means that you
can backup and restore only folders to which you have write access.
Changes: The man page and docbook were updated. Sort columns were added in
MainWindow/FileView (by name, by size, or by date) and SnapshotsDialog (by
date). The German translation was fixed.

[026] - j-Interop 2.03 (RC 8)
by Vikram Roopchand (http://freshmeat.net/users/vikramrc/)
Wed, Dec 17th 2008 15:14
Software Development :: Object Brokering
About: j-Interop is a Java Open Source library (under LGPL) that
implements the DCOM wire protocol (MSRPC) to enable development of Pure,
Bi- Directional, Non-Native Java applications which can interoperate with
any COM component. The implementation is itself purely in Java and does
not use Java Native Interface (JNI) to provide COM access. This allows
the library to be used from any Non-Windows platform. It comes with pre-
implemented packages for automation. This includes support for IDispatch,
ITypeInfo, and ITypeLib. For more flexibility (in the cases where
automation is not supported), it provides an API set to directly invoke
operations on a COM server.
Changes: This is a bugfix release. The main issue addressed in this is a
Deadlock faced in JISession under heavy threading. Also, if destroySession
was invoked, any existing call to a COM server would block till that call
was complete. This has been corrected. Any call in progress will be
terminated and destroySession will be allowed to continue.

Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
About: JPPF is a computational grid framework for Java focused on
performance and ease of use. It provides a set of tools and APIs to enable
the parallelization of CPU intensive applications, and distribute their
execution over a network of heterogenous nodes. It features platform
independence thanks to Java 1.5, does not require you to deploy your
application classes to a server, scales up to millions of nodes, has a
built-in fail-over mechanism on all the framework's components, and has a
monitoring and administration GUI tool to enable remote monitoring of the
server health and server shutdown/restart operations.
Changes: Servers are now automatically detected, removing the need to use
configuration files. The administration console was enhanced for greater
usability. Administration commands can now be sent to multiple nodes at
once. The nodes' CPU usage can now be managed by setting the priority of
the execution threads. Critical class loading issues were fixed in the J2EE
JCA connector.

Explorer. JSXGraph is easy to embed and has a small footprint: only 50 kB
if embedded in a Web page. No plugins are required. JSXGraph uses SVG and
VML.
Changes: This release contains a magic trick which results in a huge
performance boost for IE7. Dragging of points in a geometric construction
now works smoothly even with IE7. Furthermore, it contains bugfixes and
improvements in color handling.

About: Libquicktime is based on the quicktime4linux library with several
enhancements. All 3rd-party libraries were removed from the sourcetree.
Instead, the systemwide installed libraries are detected by the configure
script. All original codecs were moved into dynamically loadable modules,
and new codecs are in development. Special API extensions allow access to
the codec registry and more convenient processing of audio and video data.
Libquicktime comes with original utility programs and additional tools,
like a command line player and a GTK configuration utility that can
configure the parameters of all installed codecs. The configuration is
stored in the home directory, and can be used by all libquicktime
applications.
Changes: Several bugfixes and cleanups were done.

[041] - Remote HellaNZB GUI 0.9.2
by NothernLights (http://freshmeat.net/users/NorthernLights/)
Wed, Dec 17th 2008 18:24
Communications :: Usenet News
About: Remote HellaNZB GUI is a small GTK+ application to control your
HellaNZB daemon. It's well integrated into your desktop. In a few clicks,
you can manage your remote (or local) queue: add NZB files from your
computer or from their newzbin.com ID, set priorities, see the progress of
your downloads, etc. Unlike other similar projects, this one can truly add
NZB files from your computer to your remote daemon; to do so, it copies
them through SSH. For Remote HellaNZB GUI to work you need a running
HellaNZB daemon; it does not configure it for you.
Changes: Code cleanup and major fixes. Remembers window position on
shutdown (closes #308205). Properly closes the SSH tunnel on shutdown.
Checks whether another instance is running on startup. Can enqueue NZBs by
command line when already running. The "add files" button tooltip has
changed. Ctrl+C clears the queue. The SSH tunnel is restarted on unexpected
disconnection. Downloads are cleared on unexpected disconnection. The
server properties "ok" button has been renamed to "save and connect".

[043] - rsyslog 4.1.3 (Development)
by Rainer Gerhards (http://freshmeat.net/users/rgerhards/)
Wed, Dec 17th 2008 18:26
System :: Logging
About: Rsyslog is an enhanced multi-threaded syslogd. Among others, it
offers support for on-demand disk buffering, reliable syslog over TCP, SSL,
TLS, and RELP, writing to databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, and many
more), email alerting, fully configurable output formats (including
high-precision timestamps), the ability to filter on any part of the syslog
message, on-the-wire message compression, and the ability to convert text
files to syslog. It is a drop-in replacement for stock syslogd and able to
work with the same configuration file syntax.
Changes: This release offers a bugfix for some situations where the imudp
input module could run in a tight loop. It also offers enhanced
functionality, including a work-around to handle the invalid syslog/TCP
framing used by NetScreen. There are two more configuration options that
can be used for fine-tuning functionality.

[044] - samhain 2.5.1
by rainer (http://freshmeat.net/users/rainer/)
Wed, Dec 17th 2008 21:40
Security
About: samhain is a daemon that can check file integrity, search the file
tree for SUID files, and detect kernel module rootkits (Linux only). It can
be used either standalone or as a client/server system for centralized
monitoring, with strong (192-bit AES) encryption for client/server
connections and the option to store databases and configuration files on
the server. For tamper resistance, it supports signed
database/configuration files and signed reports/audit logs. It has been
tested on Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, and Unixware.
Changes: The syntax for conditionals in the configuration file has been
enhanced. An option has been added to drop checksummed files from the file
cache. The server can now request on-demand scans from the clients. Some
compile issues and a problem with reloading the configuration in stealth
mode have been fixed.
