[001] - aConCorde 0.4.2
  by Andy Roberts (http://freshmeat.net/users/theroo/)
  Tue, Dec 23rd 2008 22:04

Scientific/Engineering

About: aConCorde is a concordance tool to help visualise how words behave
in relation to others. It is useful for linguists to study languages, and
for people learning foreign languages to learn new words in an
example-based approach. It contains standard concordance features: keyword
in context searches (KWIC), sort by context, word frequency lists, etc. It
has been designed to be multi-lingual in terms of its interface, and in its
ability to process and display practically all languages, including
right-to-left languages such as Arabic and Hebrew. The program currently
has native English and Arabic interfaces., with more to come in future
versions. It supports common file encodings: Unicode, UTF-8, ASCII, and
most Arabic encoding types. More will be added.

Changes: This release adds support for customizing the font used in the
concordance view. This feature was requested by a user, and is particularly
useful if you are analyzing rarer languages that require specialized fonts
to view properly.

[002] - aria2 1.1.0
  by SlotGazer (http://freshmeat.net/users/slotgazer/)
  Tue, Dec 23rd 2008 14:43

Communications :: File Sharing
Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: aria2 is a utility for downloading files. The supported protocols
are HTTP(S), FTP, BitTorrent, and Metalink. It has a powerful segmented
downloading ability, downloading a file from multiple sources and multiple
protocols and utilizing your download bandwidth to the maximum. It supports
downloading a file from HTTP(S)/FTP and BitTorrent at the same time, while
the data downloaded from HTTP(S)/FTP is uploaded to the BitTorrent swarm.
Using Metalink's chunk checksums, aria2 automatically validates chunks of
data while downloading a file like BitTorrent.

Changes: This release fixes many bugs such as a buggy HTTP pipelining
implementation that leads to corrupted downloads, bad cookie handling, and
sending of badly formed URIs to the tracker. The --max-overall-upload-limit
option was added to control overall (not per torrent) upload speed. The
biggest change in this release is that the package name was changed from
"aria2c" to "aria2". This changes the installation directory of the
documents and the translation files (*.mo).

[003] - Asterisk Phonebook 1.0.3
  by Don.K (http://freshmeat.net/users/def255/)
  Tue, Dec 23rd 2008 15:00

Communications :: Telephony

About: Asterisk Phonebook is a common shared phone book directory built
for Asterisk PBX. It stores names and numbers into a database which is used
by clients. In addition, the central directory can be opened by snom
phones, in which the XML-side of the Asterisk PBX is fetched. Incoming
calls are displayed with their name, and number-to-name resolution will
look up from the local and global phone books. Calls from PSTN resolve
through the landline provider.

Changes: The admin mode was added. The requirement to sign-in in order to
modify the phonebook was added. Multilanguage support was added.

[005] - C++ Sockets 2.3.3
  by Grymse (http://freshmeat.net/users/ah7207/)
  Tue, Dec 23rd 2008 14:22

Communications
System :: Networking

About: C++ Sockets is a cross-platform C++ wrapper for BSD-style sockets.
It implements the TCP, UDP, ICMP, and SCTP transport layer protocols.
Implemented application layer protocols are HTTP/HTTPS (using OpenSSL),
SMTP (server), and Ajp/1.3 (server). Features include transparent SOCKS4
client support and asynchronous DNS. Included in the library are a number
of HTTP client functions such as GET/PUT/POST, and also Web server
framework components.

Changes: A deadlock in SSLInitializer that was introduced in 2.3.2 was
fixed. A check was added for when select() returns -1, indicating that one
of the file descriptors has gone bad. The check rebuilds the fd_set used by
select(). A bug was fixed in HttpGetSocket: one of the constructors had no
support in HttpClientSocket. Bad #include directives in Utility were
corrected.

[006] - CDfs 2.6.27
  by Moritz Barsnick (http://freshmeat.net/users/barsnick/)
  Tue, Dec 23rd 2008 22:03

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Ripping
System :: Filesystems

About: CDfs is a file system for Linux systems that `exports' all tracks
and boot images on a CD as normal files. These files can then be mounted
(e.g. for ISO and boot images), copied, played (audio tracks), etc. The
primary goal for developing this file system was to `unlock' information in
old ISO sessions. The file system also allows you to access data on faulty
multi session disks, e.g. disks with multiple single sessions instead of a
multi session.

Changes: Adaptations were made for compatibility with newer kernels.

[007] - commit-patch 2.1
  by david (http://freshmeat.net/users/blackchrome/)
  Tue, Dec 23rd 2008 15:01

Software Development :: Version Control

About: commit-patch allows the user to control exactly what gets committed
to a version control system by letting the user supply a patch to be
committed rather than using the files in the current working directory.
This allows for more finely grained commits. It supports Darcs, Git, CVS,
and Mercurial.

Changes: Git support was added. "commit-partial" was added. The --verbose
and --dry-run options were added. The --message-file option was added.
lsdiff on CVS subdirectories was fixed.

[012] - fsarchiver 0.1.9
  by François Dupoux (http://freshmeat.net/users/fdupoux/)
  Tue, Dec 23rd 2008 09:17

System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Filesystems
System :: Recovery Tools

About: fsarchiver is a system tool that allows you to save the contents of
a filesystem to a compressed archive file. The filesystem can be restored
on a partition that has a different size, and it can be restored on a
different filesystem. Unlike tar/dar, fsarchiver also creates the
filesystem when it extracts the data to partitions. Everything is
checksummed in the archive in order to protect the data. If the archive is
corrupt, you just lose the current file, not the whole archive.

Changes: This release fixes two bugs: it was not possible to restore an
ext{2,3.4} partition if it was mounted read/write during the savefs, and
opening an archive may fail in restfs for no reason.

Multimedia :: Graphics
Printing
System :: Hardware

About: Gutenprint (formerly Gimp-Print) is a collection of printer drivers
for Unix/Linux that currently supports over 800 printers. It emphasizes
quality and flexibility, offering a wide variety of options to meet most
printing needs. It includes a CUPS driver, an IJS-based Ghostscript driver,
Foomatic data, an enhanced Print plugin for The GIMP, and other printer
maintenance utilities. It can be used equally well for fast printing of
text or critical printing of high quality graphics and photographs.

Changes: This release fixes problems with translated CUPS PPD files with
CUPS 1.2 and above, and fixes printing on the Epson NX100, S20, Artisan
700, Artisan 800, and related printers. It also fixes duplex support on a
number of Epson printers, and finally adds initial support for some Canon

[017] - Himerge 0.30.36
  by Luis Araujo (http://freshmeat.net/users/LuisAraujo/)
  Tue, Dec 23rd 2008 22:07

System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions

About: Himerge is a GUI for emerge (Gentoo's Portage system) written in
Haskell using gtk2hs. The main idea is to simplify browsing the entire
portage tree, and allow running the most basic and common options from the
emerge command. It also offers several handy tools, like global and local
use flags browsers, inspired by UFED (the Gentoo Linux USE flags editor).
It also uses eix (a small utility for searching ebuilds with indexing for
fast results) as a back-end command to show package information in HTML/CSS
format, so you can access a package's Web site for a quick glance.

Changes: This release fixes an important bug in the USE flag browser.
Incorrect entries in the package.use flag are just ignored (as portage
does). All the available USE flags for a package are actually displayed
from the USE flag package browser. A new option in the package version
pop-up menu for adding USE flags to all the versions of a package at once
has been added. Now himerge will stop all the processes generated by a main
process from each of the process window when using the stop button.

  Tue, Dec 23rd 2008 09:09

Security
System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: IP-Array is a Linux iptables firewall script written in bash. It
allows the creation of precise, stateful rules, while remaining easy to
configure. IP-Array supports VPN, traffic shaping (creation of custom HTB
and SFQ qdiscs, classes, and filters), multiple external interfaces,
multiple LANs, multiple DMZs, NAT, logging, MAC address matching, packet
marking, syslog logging, and various sysctl settings. It also includes some
presets and autoconfig options for common needs like DNS, FTP, SMTP.

Changes: Important bugs were fixed. iptables rule processing has been
completely rewritten. The rule block definition is now template-based. This
new core will allow very flexible rule definitions in upcoming releases. No
configuration changes are necessary after upgrading. Performance was
improved. There were other minor feature updates.

System :: Monitoring

About: phpLogCon is a Web front-end for syslog and other network event
data. It provides easy browsing, searching, basic analysis, and some

enables users to quickly find solutions to problems seen in the log data.

Changes: This release fixes a typo in textual month detection, which
caused date detection problems in December. It fixes a missing include of
debug functions in maintenance.php. It has some performance tweaks in the
MySQL driver that will make searching for strings within messages faster.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search

About: urlwatch is a script intended to help you watch URLs and get
notified (via email) of any changes. The change notification will include
the URL that has changed and a unified diff of what has changed. The script
works out of a single directory, so there is no need to install anything.
State files are kept in the same folder. The script supports stripping
parts of a page that are always changing through the use of a filter hook
function. It is typically run as a cronjob.

Changes: This release adds support for Python 2.6 and above by using the
hashlib module instead of the (deprecated) sha module for generating
hashes. Python versions before 2.5 are still supported and will use the sha
module for generating hashes, just like the previous versions.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation

About: There are many photo-gallery programs available. Zoph is different,
as it concentrates on the management of large collection of photos instead
of just showing them on the Web. It can store a lot of information about
your photos, including the regular EXIF info, photographer, location,

in multiple albums and categories. Additional features include search,
slideshows, lightboxes, email, access privileges, and multiple languages.

Changes: This is an interim feature release that offers a preview on some
new features in Zoph 0.8. It fixes a lot of bugs from the previous 0.7.x
releases, and a lot of work has been done on performance improvement. The
most important new feature is user-groups: you can now group your users and
assign album-rights to the group.
