Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Ripping
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Writing
System :: Archiving
About: cdrtools (formerly cdrecord) creates home-burned CDs/DVDs with a
CDR/CDRW/DVD recorder. It works as a burn engine for several applications.
It supports CD/DVD recorders from many different vendors; all SCSI-3/mmc-
and ATAPI/mmc-compliant drives should also work. Supported features include
IDE/ATAPI, parallel port, and SCSI drives, audio CDs, data CDs, and mixed
CDs, full multi-session support, CDRWs (rewritable), DVD-R/-RW, DVD+R/+RW,
TAO, DAO, RAW, and human-readable error messages. cdrtools includes remote
SCSI support and can access local or remote CD/DVD writers.
Changes: The Atari MiNT enhancements are ready (except for the libscg code
for ATARI). This release can create and link shared cdrtools-libs on Linux.
A workround for a nasty gcc warning about sccsid has been introduced.
Libfind now correctly deals with ARG_MAX in case libfind bitsize differs
from the called program with -exec +. The RSCSI bus numer limit has been
raised to 1024 to allow the new Linux ATA mapping. Many new workarounds for
drive firmware bugs have been added to cdrecord. The cdrecord default
transfer size is again 63k because of Linux and Solaris kernel bugs.

Communications :: File Sharing
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Browsers
About: CGIProxy is a Perl CGI script that acts as an Internet proxy.
Through it, you can retrieve resources that may be inaccessible from your
own machine. The user is kept as anonymous as possible from any servers.
HTTP and FTP are supported, and optionally SSL. Common uses include
censorship circumvention, VPN-like setups, anonymous proxies, personal
proxies, and others. Options include text-only browsing (to save
bandwidth), selective cookie and script removal, simple ad filtering,
access restriction by server, encoded target URLs and cookies,
configuration by end user, and much more (currently about 50 config
options). Javascript is fully supported, and Flash is partially supported.
An online demo is available.
Changes: Cookie support (including logins) has been improved. This release
works better with Safari, and a few other small bugs have been fixed.

[012] - jfftw3 0.1
by Kai Gerd Schwebke (http://freshmeat.net/users/kschwebke/)
Thu, Dec 25th 2008 11:43
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: jfftw3 provides JNI access to FFTW, an open source C library for
the computation of discrete Fourier transforms. jfftw3 consists of a thin
native wrapper for the FFTW 3.2 library. The wrapping covers FFTW's memory
allocation, basic planner interface, and wisdom handling. The native
wrapper is designed to support automatic JNI generation by gluegen into a
useful Java API providing the original procedural FFTW interface.
Changes: The procedural interface enables usage of FFTW (almost) in the
way documented for the FFTW C library. A more OO interface is desirable for
Java, however. This part of jfftw3 is not implemented yet. Some parts of
FFTW including the advanced and guru planner API are not yet covered, but
the wrapper is already useful for Java applications that need a fast and
reliable FFT library.

System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux
About: Kernel Mode Linux is a technology which enables the execution of
user programs in a kernel mode. In Kernel Mode Linux, user programs can
access kernel address space directly. Unlike kernel modules, user programs
are executed as ordinary processes (except for their privilege level), so
scheduling and paging are performed as usual. Although it seems dangerous,
the safety of the kernel can be ensured through such methods as static type
checking, software fault isolation, and so forth.

Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Libraries :: Perl Modules
System :: Networking
About: Libev is a high-performance event loop for C (with optional and
separate interfaces for C++ and Perl), featuring support for I/O, timers
(relative and absolute, cron-like ones), signals, process status changes,
and other types of events. It has both a fast native API and libevent
emulation to support programs written using the libevent API. The libev
distribution consists of libevent with the core event handling parts
replaced by the libev embedded event loop. Differences to libevent include
higher speed, simpler design, more features, less memory usage,
embedability, and no arbitrary limits. libev supports epoll, kqueue,
Solaris event ports, poll, and select.
Changes: This release fixes a major bug in inotify support that could
cause libev to freeze on hash collisions. A number of minor bugs in inotify
support have been fixed as well. On Mac OS X, libev now falls back to
select, as 10.5 has broken poll too. embed watchers now automatically stop
and restart themselves if the embedding loop is forked, and as usual, the
documentation has been tweaked and improved.

by Sebastian Marsching (http://freshmeat.net/users/MajorTermi/)
Thu, Dec 25th 2008 19:01
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Security
System :: Networking
About: suPHP is a combination of an Apache module (mod_suphp) and an
executable which provides a wrapper for PHP. With both together, it is
possible to execute PHP scripts with the permissions of their owner without
having to place a PHP binary in each user's cgi-bin directory. suPHP
doesn't need Apache's suExec, and provides a logging function.
Changes: This release brings some long expected features like syntax
highlighting for PHP code and variables (e.g. user name or home directory)
in configuration directives. It also fixes some minor bugs causing warnings
at build time.

[029] - The Powered Access Bible 1.2 (Development)
by Jonathan Hayward (http://freshmeat.net/users/jonathanhayward/)
Thu, Dec 25th 2008 11:43
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Religion
About: The Powered Access Bible is a CGI script designed to facilitate
finding verses and reading them in context, minimizing the usual mousework.
It divides the screen into a search frame and a reading frame, and clicking
on a search reference will load its context in the reading frame. All
executable code is available under the user's choice of the Artistic, GPL,
or MIT license, and the translations used are all free for non-commercial
use.
Changes: This release features several minor tweaks geared at page weight
and usability. Parts of the project other than the translations (i.e.
executable code, etc.) are available under the MIT license as well as the
previously available Perl license.

by Alex Samorukov (http://freshmeat.net/users/sammdev/)
Thu, Dec 25th 2008 19:09
Software Development :: Libraries
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML
About: The WBXML Library is a C library for handling WBXML (Wireless
Binary XML) documents. It consists of a WBXML parser (with a SAX-like
interface), and a generic WBXML encoder. The following languages are
supported: WML 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 / WTA 1.0 / WTA-WML 1.2 / CHANNEL 1.1,
1.2 / SI 1.0 / SL 1.0 / CO 1.0 / PROV 1.0 / EMN 1.0 / DRMREL 1.0 /
Ericsson-Nokia OTA Settings v7.0 / SYNCML 1.0, 1.1 / Wireless Village CSP
1.1, 1.2.
Changes: libwbxml is now maintained by the OpenSync project. The build
system has been switched to cmake from GNU autotools. Tests were integrated
and can be used via "make test". A couple of issues with SyncML are fixed.
There are miscellaneous build fixes and anonymous document support. There
is a fix for wrong doctype detection. The inclusion of expat and iconv
header files was moved to an internal header file. The configuration
parameters that are relevant for users are placed in wbxml_config.h. SO
naming has been fixed.

[032] - Xtables-addons 1.7
by Jan Engelhardt (http://freshmeat.net/users/jengelh/)
Thu, Dec 25th 2008 19:13
System :: Networking :: Firewalls
About: Xtables-addons is a package that obsoletes the old patch-o-matic
repository for the Linux kernel and iptables. Instead of patching the
kernel source, extensions are built as modules and thus allow extending
kernels without recompilation.
Changes: The SYSRQ extension now uses cryptographic authentication (SHA-1
by default). A bug where ipset was unconditionally installed has been
fixed.
