[001] - abcm2ps 5.9.3 (Stable)
  by Guido Gonzato (http://freshmeat.net/users/goccia/)
  Tue, Dec 30th 2008 13:15

Printing

About: abcm2ps is a package that converts music tunes from ABC format to
PostScript. Based on abc2ps version 1.2.5, it was developed mainly to print
baroque organ scores that have independant voices played on one or more
keyboards, and a pedal-board. It introduces many extensions to the ABC
language that make it suitable for classical music.

Changes: This release introduces several layout improvements and new
commands. Users are encouraged to upgrade.

[002] - Accelerando 0.7
  by Ben Crowell (http://freshmeat.net/users/bcrowell/)
  Tue, Dec 30th 2008 20:28

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio

About: Accelerando is a musical metronome that can speed up, allowing you
to practice your music at progressively faster tempos. For example, you
could set it to play 60 beats per minute for 4 bars, then automatically
speed up by 10 beats per minute, and so on.

Changes: This version includes a man page, and a command line interface
that can be used as an alternative to the GUI. A workaround is provided for
a Perl/Tk font-handling regression. On systems that don't have the ALSA
aplay command available, the program will attempt to use madplay instead.

[003] - cdrtools 2.01.01a55 (Development)
  by Jörg Schilling (http://freshmeat.net/users/schily/)
  Tue, Dec 30th 2008 19:13

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Ripping
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Writing
System :: Archiving

About: cdrtools (formerly cdrecord) creates home-burned CDs/DVDs with a
CDR/CDRW/DVD recorder. It works as a burn engine for several applications.
It supports CD/DVD recorders from many different vendors; all SCSI-3/mmc-
and ATAPI/mmc-compliant drives should also work. Supported features include
IDE/ATAPI, parallel port, and SCSI drives, audio CDs, data CDs, and mixed
CDs, full multi-session support, CDRWs (rewritable), DVD-R/-RW, DVD+R/+RW,
TAO, DAO, RAW, and human-readable error messages. cdrtools includes remote
SCSI support and can access local or remote CD/DVD writers.

Changes: This release makes Linux installation more safe: install scripts
have been enhanced to make sure that cdrecord will be installed suid root
if "make install" is called by root, but cdrecord is not installed suid in
case "make install" is not called by root. The new makefile variable
INS_RBASE controls the install location of files like
/etc/default/cdrecord, while other files may be installed into /opt/schily.

commands to be executed by the shell (there are no built-in commands). CLEX
is easily configurable and all its features are explained in the on-line
help.

Changes: This release adds support for Unicode UTF-8 encoding. Certain
configuration parameters have been converted to options or settings which
are saved automatically. A log panel and optional logging to a file were
added for auditing and troubleshooting purposes. A utility for creating the
initial configuration file is included. A built-in function which renames
files with invalid or unprintable characters has been added. The help is
not limited to one link per line. There are several other minor changes.

System :: Networking
System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: GNetWatch is an application that offers real-time graphical
monitoring and analysis of network performance through SNMP and ICMP. To
get an instant view of the network state, data are collected, stored, and
displayed every few seconds. Two traffic generation modules are available.
The former can flood UDP packets of any size (jumbo frames for instance)
and tagged with any DiffServ/ToS flag for QoS and class of services
testing. The latter can generate a huge quantity of parallel requests to
any HTTP(s) server for Web application load testing. To automatically
discover new hosts, GNetWatch can make use of Ethereal/WireShark and later
invoke NMap to get information about the remote systems. Note that IPv6 and
SNMPv3 are fully supported by GNetWatch.

Changes: Many more SNMP tables may be downloaded (like routing, ARP,
interfaces, and MAC tables), and multiple graphs may now be displayed on
the same statistics window.

[030] - sigma console fonts 0.5
  by zarniwhoop (http://freshmeat.net/users/zarniwhoop/)
  Tue, Dec 30th 2008 00:37

About: The sigma console fonts are a set of UTF-8 fonts which provide
readability and wide coverage. They include the "master" bdf file and
screen font map (.sfm) files to control what goes into a particular 'psfu'
font, so you can change the appearance of a glyph or create a selection
specific to your needs. For many people, the 'general' map will cover your
needs, but there are a number of other maps, including african, caucasian,
cyrillic (primarily for all live languages using a cyrillic alphabet), and
vietnamese. The bdf font itself is public domain, derived from etl16.

Changes: Ellipses have been added to the main screen fonts to support trac
0.11. The form of lowercase 'g' has been improved. The default for fonts
and docs is now both /usr/local. Double-quotes have been corrected to the
normal form. 'eth' has been reshaped. There are corrections to some of the
example alphabets. A patch has been applied to correct the bdf file so that
bdftopcf will work with it.

Information Management :: Records Management

About: Talend Open Profiler (TOP) helps you to profile your data. TOP's
ergonomic interface allows you to define metrics (indicators) and collect
statistics on your data in a few clicks. It comes with a set of regular
expressions that helps you to identify bad data. You can create your own
regular expressions and use them in data profiling analyses. A lot of
options exist for each indicator, which change the behavior of the
indicator so that it gives you more pertinent information. Data quality
options on indicators alert you when your data quality is not what you
expected.

Changes: A permission bug was fixed in "Connection analysis".

[036] - xlit 2.4
  by Bill Poser (http://freshmeat.net/users/billposer/)
  Tue, Dec 30th 2008 07:18

Text Processing
Text Processing :: Linguistic
Text Processing :: Markup

About: Xlit converts text from one writing system into another. It allows
the user to define a transliteration simply by typing the input strings in
one window and the strings to which they are to be mapped in another.
Transliteration may be restricted to regions bounded by specified
delimiters or their complements. Transliteration may also be performed by
external commands or plugins. Xlit can also convert one type of delimiter
to another, e.g. from HZ escapes to XML. Xlit can read and write
transliteration definitions in its own format and as Yudit keymaps. It can
be run in batch mode without the GUI.

Changes: A bug that interfered with batch mode operation has been fixed.
Tk 8.5+ under X11 is now detected and font sizes appropriately modified.
The license is now GPL version 3.

[037] - xterm patch #238
  by T.E.Dickey (http://freshmeat.net/users/tedickey/)
  Tue, Dec 30th 2008 20:37

Desktop Environment
Terminals :: Terminal Emulators/X Terminals

About: The xterm program is the standard terminal emulator for the X
Window System. It provides DEC VT102/VT220 and Tektronix 4014 compatible
terminals for programs that can't use the window system directly. If the
underlying operating system supports terminal resizing capabilities (for
example, the SIGWINCH signal in systems derived from 4.3bsd), xterm will
use the facilities to notify programs running in the window whenever it is
resized.

Changes: Several minor improvements to runtime configurability of control
sequences used by applications to obtain information from xterm, as well as
fixes to improve robustness.
