[001] - Automated Network DHCP Registration Application 1.0.2
by grufo (http://freshmeat.net/users/grufo/)
Fri, Jan 2nd 2009 18:39
Internet :: Name Service (DNS)
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
About: ANDReA is a LAMP-based system for registration of network clients
using DHCP. Splitting the network into "boot-net" for unregistered users
and a "real-net" for registered users makes it possible to gather
information about users in the network. Additionally it is possible to
detect active services (FTP, WWW, a game server, etc.) and unregistered
computers in the network. It is mainly used for LAN parties.
Changes: This release depends on Ubuntu 8.04 LTS the support of Ubuntu
6.06 ran out. The only new feature is that the firewall can be configured
for TCP and UDP ports per client computer. Three bugs have been fixed.
Installation works with an existing MySQL password. Delay when rebooting
has been fixed. An activated client firewall config could not be removed.

by Afshin Tajvidi (http://freshmeat.net/users/tajflow/)
Fri, Jan 2nd 2009 07:49
Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Security
About: CacheGuard is a Linux-based OS/appliance dedicated to Web traffic
security and optimization. It transforms an x86-based machine into a
powerful Web gateway appliance. It allows you to control Web traffic for
Web surfers and Web servers by acting as a forwarding and reverse HTTP /
HTTPS proxy. It supports HTTP transparent implementation, HTTP compression,
Web caching, URL black- and whitelist guarding, and Web server load
balancing. It features a stateful firewall with NAT and PAT, and a content
filtering module blocking malicious HTTP requests like XSS, SQL and Command
Injection. It integrates a caching DNS, a DHCP server, a bandwidth shaper
to manage the QoS, a load sharing system, and an HA (high availability)
mode with VRRP and link bonding.
Changes: An LDAP authentication mode has been added to the appliance. The
bug that prevented connection to internal NTP servers has been fixed.

completely encrypted. Backup is incremental, including changed parts of
large files. Moved, renamed, and duplicate files will not require
additional storage. Several computers can use the same storage for backup,
automatically sharing data. Both very large and very small files are

freshmeat.net
Information Management :: Workflow Frameworks
Software Development
About: Releaser is a set of scripts to automate and manage the tasks
related to software package releases. It is designed to be modular and to
make it easy to both select a particular set of actions associated with
releases of a particular project (such as changelog generation, uploading
of tarballs, posting announcements to mailing lists), and create new
actions that integrate seamlessly into the process. Its status is still
somewhat experimental, but the most basic functionality is there.
Changes: Some minor improvements and a new action. Changelogs are more
markdown-friendly. There is a new edit-changelog pre-action to easily edit
the generated changelogs. run.rc files are not required to have the
executable flag set. There are other minor improvements.

[040] - Ruby Nmap::Parser Library 0.3.1
by kjak (http://freshmeat.net/users/kjak/)
Fri, Jan 2nd 2009 07:17
Internet :: Log Analysis
Security
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
About: Ruby Nmap::Parser Library provides a Ruby interface to Nmap's scan
data. It can run Nmap and parse its XML output directly from the scan,
parse a file containing the XML data from a separate scan, parse a String
of XML data from a scan, or parse XML data from an object via its read()
method. This information is presented in an easy-to-use and intuitive
fashion for storing and manipulating.
Changes: Port specification parsing code was enhanced. The newer starttime
and endtime host attributes (individual host scan times) were added to
::Host. The newer scanflags scaninfo attribute was added as scanflags() in
::Session for printing the scanflags associated with the specified scan
type (e.g. "PSHACK" for scan type "ack"). Various implementation reworkings
were done. Many documentation updates were done.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
About: Werc is a minimalistic RESTful content management system
implemented as a collection of shell scripts written in the rc shell and
taking advantage of other Plan 9 tools available on *nix systems as part of
"Plan 9 from User Space". It is designed to be fast, simple, convenient,
and easily extensible (you can easily integrate your own dynamic content
with the rest of the site). It handles both small and big sites well,
including seamless multi-domain handling. All data is stored as plain text
files without need of a database and there is support for blog directories
with automatic RSS feed generation (and multi-feed aggregation).
Changes: A new blog engine using the newly finished app framework. A
rewritten blog(blagh) app: modular, history browsing, much simpler code,
and other improvements. A new function to pick 'metadata' out of .md files.
Optimized and simplified config loading and menu tree building. Relative
paths are allowed in config files. There are many improvements, cleanups,
simplifications, and code polishing. The core codebase is down to ~170
lines.
