[005] - CloudVPN 1.0.1
by [exa] (http://freshmeat.net/users/exaexa/)
Sat, Jan 3rd 2009 00:48
Communications
Internet
System :: Networking
About: CloudVPN is a VPN that allows mesh networking. It can create
secured networks with special or weird topologies. All nodes of the network
are equal and can connect in any way, so it's very easy to create
connection schemes with (for example) clustered servers, decentralized
servers, complete topologies for better throughput, ring topologies for
failover, long-line for passing through many routes, or tree topology for
optimizing inter-server bandwidth needs. It is very easy to get working.
Changes: This release fixes a problem with transferring corrupted route
information, fixes a minor bug in SSL error handling, and has complete
forgotten send queue overburdening protection. It adds a simple
status-to-file dumper so that users can see how the route looks right now.

Software Development :: Internationalization
Software Development :: Localization
About: FastFormat is a C/C++ output and formatting library whose design
parameters are complete type-safety, efficiency, genericity, and
extensibility. It is simple to use and extend, highly portable (to any
platform or compiler), and it upholds the C tradition of you only pay for
what you use. FastFormat supports output and formatting of statements of
arbitrary complexity, consisting of heterogeneous types. FastFormat writes
to output "sinks", which can be of arbitrary type.
Changes: This release fixes Mac OS X compilation errors, adds a sink for
ACE's ACE_CString type, along with a scratch test for it, and fixes a minor
defect in the CComBSTR sink.

Sat, Jan 3rd 2009 08:01
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
Multimedia :: Video
About: get_iplayer allows a user to download or stream any iPlayer program
from the BBC in H.264 (Quicktime/mp4) format, any radio programs in MP3 or
RealAudio format (optionally converted to WAV or MP3), and all podcasts in
MP3/AAC format. It even downloads the subtitles where available.
Changes: pageUrl detection was removed from TMP mode. RTMP Wii Flash video
can now be downloaded. --mp3audio, --realaudio, --rtmp, and --n95 options
were deprecated (they still work for now). A new --amode=[mp3|realaudio]
option was added (default: mp3 with fall-back to realaudio). A
--vmode=[iphone|rtmp|n95|flashhigh|flashnormal|flashwii] option was added
(default: iphone). If --vmode is set to "rtmp", then all RTMP modes are
tried (flashhigh/flashnormal/flashwii) until one works. A typo bug that
prevented lame from transcoding RealAudio to MP3 was fixed.

by Lennert Buytenhek (http://freshmeat.net/users/buytenh/)
Sat, Jan 3rd 2009 14:48
Software Development :: Libraries
About: ivykis is a library for asynchronous I/O readiness notification. It
is a thin, portable wrapper around OS-provided mechanisms such as
/dev/poll, kqueue(2), poll(2), select(2), and epoll_create(2). ivykis was
mainly designed for building high-performance network servers, but can be
used as building block for any kind of event-driven application that uses
poll(2)able file descriptors as its inputs.
Changes: This release removes support for a couple of poll methods that
are now considered obsolete such as /dev/epoll, introduces a stable library
ABI, and prepares the library for switching over to fully level-triggered
operation.

by Folkert van Heusden (http://freshmeat.net/users/fvh/)
Sat, Jan 3rd 2009 20:19
System :: Networking :: Time Synchronization
About: OmniSync is a driver for NTPd for people who are
firewall-challenged. It enables systems to synchronize time when port 123
(UDP) is blocked. It allows you to sync against the daytime service, time,
SNTS, IRC, ICMP, SNMP, precision time protocol (PTP -- IEEE 1588), HTTP,
HTTPS (both also via proxy server), and (S)NTP via a Socks(5) proxy server.
It doesn't directly set the clock, but uses NTPd for this, as this enables
you to have multiple time sources as well as bad-chimer detection, etc.
Changes: OmniSync can now bind to a specific network adapter. An ntp
implementation that binds to an unprivileged port was added, enabling
regular ntp behind a restrictive firewall.

About: xCover is a code coverage library for C and C++. It uses
non-standard features available with GCC 4.3+ and Visual C++ 7.0+. Users
place line-marks in each branch of each function or method in a component's
source file, and the library is able to produce, upon request, a report of
which of these has not been executed. Reporting can be done on a per-file,
per-alias, or per-file-group basis.
Changes: This initial public release requires GCC 4.3+ or Visual C++ 7.0+,
and relies on version 1.9.65+ of the STLSoft libraries.
