[003] - aMule 2.2.3
by Kry (http://freshmeat.net/users/ElKry/)
Sun, Jan 4th 2009 16:41
Communications :: File Sharing
About: aMule is short for "all-platform eMule-like file-sharing program",
or, in short, "all-platform Mule". It's a port of the well-known eMule P2P
client for the eDonkey2000 and Kad file sharing networks, supporting most
of eMule's features. Additionally, it provides a small separate Web server
and command line interface to connect to a running aMule via the network.
Changes: This release fixes a GTK crash on closing search tabs. It fixes
compilation with Sun Studio 12. It fixes loading of zipped ipfilter files.
It fixes incorrect ordering/placing of clients in the download window. It
won't open a server UDP socket if ED2K is disabled. Preferences have been
reordered, and ED2K/UPnP preferences are disabled if ED2K/UPnP is disabled.
Incorrect file download rates in the transfer window are fixed. On Windows,
a broken core timer is fixed, and precise tick count is used, fixing the
download limit.

[004] - Blob Wars : Blob and Conquer 1.05
by Scarfy (http://freshmeat.net/users/Scarfy/)
Sun, Jan 4th 2009 16:57
Games/Entertainment :: Arcade
About: Blob Wars : Blob and Conquer is a 3rd person action shooter. With
the apparent defeat of Galdov and the reclaiming of the Fire, Time, Space,
and Reality Crystals, the Blobs' battle was only just beginning. Bob had
rescued many Blobs and fought many battles, but now he had an ever bigger
task ahead of him. The Blobs' homeworld is still littered with the alien
forces and Bob once again makes it his task to lead the counter attack. But
even without Galdov the aliens are still extremely well organised.
Changes: A bug that caused a boss battle to not function correctly was
fixed. Code changes were made to stop in-game cutscenes from being skipped
and to ensure that the cheat code could be input correctly.

Text Editors
Text Processing :: Markup
About: Bluefish is a programmer's Web development editor written using
GTK, designed to save the experienced webmaster some keystrokes. It
features a multiple file editor, multiple toolbars, custom menus, image and
thumbnail dialogs, open from the Web, CSS dialogs, PHP, HTML, Java, C, and
XML support, external program integration (tidy, weblint, make, javac), and
lots of wizards.
Changes: The previous released featured a new editor widget, which was a
bit unpolished. Now this widget is much more polished, is faster, and
supports more languages. There are many bugs fixed and other improvements
implemented. This release is much more suitable for day-to-day use.
However, it is still an unstable release, so there are many unfinished
features and missing translations.

[006] - Bubbling Load Monitor Applet 2.0.11 (Gnome 2)
by Walles (http://freshmeat.net/users/walles/)
Sun, Jan 4th 2009 16:44
Desktop Environment :: Gnome
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization
System :: Monitoring
About: The Bubbling Load Monitor (or "Bubblemon" for short) is a system
load monitor for the GNOME panel. It looks like a vial containing water.
The water level indicates how much (electronic) memory is in use. The color
of the liquid indicates how much swap space is used. The amount of bubbles
reflects the system CPU load. A message in a bottle indicates there is
unread mail. A reed-like graph shows network load. On multi-core systems
the CPU with the highest load will bubble in the middle, and the others on
the sides, so it's possible to see how well load gets distributed between
CPUs.
Changes: Applet sizing was fixed so that the applet doesn't become too
narrow on the default GNOME panels. Water now has a minimum level so that
load is visible even on systems with very low memory usage. The tool tip
was improved. Man pages were fixed so that they can be parsed by lexgrog.

Sun, Jan 4th 2009 17:11
System :: Systems Administration
About: config-package-dev is a system of CDBS modules for creating Debian
configuration packages: packages that configure an existing Debian system
by using dpkg-divert on configuration files. These modules attempt to make
the process of creating configuration packages efficient by checking the
md5sums of upstream configuration files that are to be modified and by
automatically generating the relevant postinst code to perform the
diversions using the standard debhelper mechanism.
Changes: This release fixes support for using DEB_TRANSFORM_FILES when
building multiple configuration packages from a single source packages,
improves error checking, and improves the in-package examples.

Sun, Jan 4th 2009 20:05
Documentation
Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
About: Daikon is an implementation of dynamic detection of likely
invariants. An invariant is a property (such as "x=2*y+5" or
"this.next.prev = this" or "myarray is sorted by <") that holds at a
certain point or points in a program. Invariants are often seen in assert
statements, documentation, and formal specifications. Invariants can be
useful in program understanding and a host of other applications. Daikon
runs a program, observes the values that the program computes, and then
reports properties that were true over the observed executions. It can
detect properties in Java, C, C++, Perl, and IOA programs, in spreadsheet
files, and in other data sources.
Changes: This release resolves a number of problems in the build scripts
and documentation for a complete Windows installation.

[031] - rdiff-backup 1.3.0 (Development)
by Andrew Ferguson (http://freshmeat.net/users/adferguson/)
Sun, Jan 4th 2009 16:40
System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Archiving :: Mirroring
Utilities
About: rdiff-backup backs up one directory to another. The target
directory ends up a copy of the source directory, but extra reverse diffs
are stored in a special directory so you can still recover files lost some
time ago. The idea is to combine the best features of a mirror and an
incremental backup. rdiff-backup can also operate in a bandwidth- efficient
manner over a pipe, like rsync. Thus you can use rdiff-backup and ssh to
securely back up to a remote location, and only the differences will be
transmitted. It can also handle symlinks, device files, permissions,
ownership, etc., so it can be used on the entire file system.
Changes: Trailing spaces and periods are properly escaped when the
destination filesystem does not support them. The start and end times are
taken from the same system so that the "elapsed time" statistic is
unaffected by servers in different time zones. The program is now capable
of backing up files which the user cannot read, but can change the
permissions of. The --use-compatible-timestamps option was added.

[036] - sshguard 1.4rc2
by Mij (http://freshmeat.net/users/mijio/)
Sun, Jan 4th 2009 20:07
Security
System :: Monitoring
System :: Networking :: Firewalls
About: Sshguard monitors services through their logging activity. It
reacts to messages about dangerous activity by blocking the source address
with the local firewall. Sshguard employs a clever parser that can
transparently recognize several logging formats at once (syslog, syslog-ng,
metalog, multilog, raw messages), and detects attacks for many services out
of the box, including SSH, several ftpds, and dovecot. It can operate all
the major firewalling systems, and features support for IPv6, whitelisting,
suspension, and log message authentication.
Changes: This release fixes compiler flags for the latest version of
simclist: some backend modules that gave compilation problems now work.
list_find() has been moved to list_locate() according to API changes in
simclist.

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Documentation
About: Synopsis is a multi-language source code introspection tool that
provides a variety of representations for the parsed code to enable further
processing such as documentation extraction, reverse engineering, and
source-to-source translation. It provides a framework of C++ and Python
APIs to access these representations and allows Processor objects to be
defined and composed into processing pipelines, making this framework very
flexible and extensible.
Changes: This release adds support for OS X. It fixes the way template
specializations are handled in the ASG. It fixes a number of minor
incompatibilities with Python 2.6. It fixes a number of validation errors
for the HTML formatter.

[038] - The Castle 0.8.3
by Michalis Kamburelis (http://freshmeat.net/users/kambi/)
Sun, Jan 4th 2009 16:57
Games/Entertainment :: First Person Shooters
About: The Castle is a first-person shooter game in a dark fantasy
setting. Your main weapon is a sword, so the fight is mostly short-range.
Three main levels are included, packed with creatures, items, and sounds. A
couple of bonus levels are also available, like the classic DOOM E1M1 level
reimplemented in VRML. The game engine is based on VRML, OpenGL, OpenAL,
and all shadows are done by the shadow volumes approach.
Changes: The VRML engine was updated to the newest version. This provides
fixes for Mesa3d (especially on Intel GPUs) and frustum culling
optimizations.

[040] - view3dscene 3.3.0
by Michalis Kamburelis (http://freshmeat.net/users/kambi/)
Sun, Jan 4th 2009 16:55
Multimedia :: Graphics :: 3D Rendering
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Graphics Conversion
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers
About: view3dscene is a browser for VRML (1.0 and 2.0) and X3D, and a
viewer for other 3D model formats (3DS, MD3, Wavefront OBJ, and Collada are
handled). It supports viewing the scene in the "Examine" mode and walking
in the virtual world with features such as collision detection and gravity.
Rendering is done using OpenGL. A built-in ray-tracer allows the generation
of images with more effects (like shadows and mirrors) and conforming
precisely to the VRML 97 lighting specification. The program can also
convert files from 3DS, MD3, and other formats to VRML and pretty-print
VRML files.
Changes: LOD (level-of-detail) node and Collision.proxy are handled now. A
KambiOctreeProperties extension has been added to specify octree limits.
The shape octree was sped up by using mailboxes. Various workarounds for
Mesa3d bugs (in particular on Intel GPUs) and Mesa detection have been
improved. Various frustum culling optimizations. Small improvements in the
view3dscene interface: blend status text, a shapes count fix, and keeping
the selected triangle when transforming shape. The path tracer honors VRML
>= 2.0 materials.

[041] - Votorola 0.1.12
by Michael Allan (http://freshmeat.net/users/mcallan/)
Sun, Jan 4th 2009 16:44
About: Votorola is communityware for building consensus. It hosts a
peer-to-peer voting engine that allows for unrestricted vote shifting and
an unlimited choice of candidates. Its voter lists are authenticated by a
neighbourhood trust network. Installed in your local community, Votorola
functions as an independent electoral system, a system of cross-party
primaries in which candidates are nominated by free and open consensus.
Changes: The underlying theory of the system design was documented.
Details of the peer-to-peer voting mechanism were defined. Its functional
interfaces with society were explained, including its role as a primary
electoral system; its effect on the delegation of executive power; and its
interplay with collaborative media in the drafting of consensus norms, such
as laws, plans, and policies.

server. It also supports text or HTML email, attachments, inline images,
printing, and more. It has an "AJAX" interface that could compete with
desktop-based mail user agents.
Changes: A live demo has been added. Support has been added for
preferences (color theme, default editor mode, and cache). The ability to
send plain text messages has been added. There is support for multiple
domains on one installation, better logging, CAPTCHA validation (only used
in the live demo for now), and various fixes.
