About: 123 Flash Chat Server is a full-featured chat server for high-load
Web sites. It features a range of customization options, can be smoothly
integrated with the database of almost any popular portal or forum system
including Joomla!, phpBB, PHP-Nuke, and PostNuke, includes plain text chat
and video chat options, and is scalable enough to fit the needs of small
business and large enterprises. A free 10-user edition is available.
Changes: A load balance feature was introduced, allowing a chat server to
host millions of users without decreasing performance. All data was
transferred from plain files into a database, which will highly improve
running speed. The Invitation Bot feature was added, allowing users to drag
all their MSN friends to your chat room. A ticket-submission system was
embedded in the Admin Panel to help you to get proper answers to support
questions promptly.

[007] - checksysreport 1.0-4
by Pierre Amadio (http://freshmeat.net/users/pamadio/)
Mon, Jan 5th 2009 14:11
About: checksysreport performs some automatic tests against a directory
containing an untarred Red Hat Enterprise Linux sysreport. You will need a
valid Red Hat Network login in order to use it, as it fetches information
from RHN using the RHN API (see https://rhn.redhat.com/rpc/api/). A
graphical tool, yadarh, is also included: it uses the cache generated by
checksysreport to display RPMs in a given channel and lets you browse them
to have a list of errata and new entries in changelogs that come with other
versions of the same package.
Changes: fill-cache-packages crashed with key errors. A typographical
error in sysreportChecker.py was fixed. Changelog diffs were wrong for some
beta packages. Several changes were made in fill-cache-advisory.

[010] - Crossroads Load Balancer 2.41
by Karel Kubat (http://freshmeat.net/users/karelk/)
Mon, Jan 5th 2009 14:06
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
System :: Networking
About: Crossroads is a daemon running in user space, and features
extensive configurability, polling of back ends using wake up calls, status
reporting, many algorithms to select the 'right' back end for a request
(and user-defined algorithms for very special cases), and much more.
Crossroads is service-independent: it is usable for any TCP service, such
as HTTP(S), SSH, SMTP, and database connections. In the case of HTTP
balancing, Crossroads can provide session stickiness for back end processes
that need sessions, but aren't session-aware of other back ends. Crossroads
can be run as a stand-alone daemon or via inetd, and features a management
Web interface for monitoring and for modification of parameters.
Changes: This version fixes some smaller bugs or omissions, and further
improves the management Web interface.

Database
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
About: DBSight is a J2EE search platform for instant scalable full-text
search on any relational database, for both beginners and experts. It
features a built-in database crawler following user-defined SQL,
incremental indexing, configurable result ranking, highlighted search
results (like Google), and categorized result counts (like Amazon).
Scaffolding supports tag cloud, AJAX search suggest, and a spell checker.
It can easily integrate with other languages with XML/JSON/HTML. There is a
UI for all operations, so no Java coding is necessary. Deleted or updated
records in database can be synchronized. Content outside the database can
also be searched.
Changes: This release adds an option to schedule deletion detection for
incremental indexing. It adds a customizable fetcher for data sources other
than databases. It adds job scheduling for the spell check dictionary. It
fixes a possible format error for the period table. It fixes problems
handling negative queries like "night -title:sky".

Mon, Jan 5th 2009 18:24
Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
About: DOLFIN is the C++ interface of the FEniCS project for the
Automation of Computational Mathematical Modeling (ACMM), providing a
consistent PSE (Problem Solving Environment) for solving ordinary and
partial differential equations. Key features include a simple, consistent
and intuitive object-oriented API; automatic and efficient evaluation of
variational forms through FFC; automatic and efficient assembly of linear
systems; and support for general families of finite elements.
Changes: This release brings major changes (improvements) to the user
interface and introduces the new FunctionSpace class. The Python interface
includes several improvements, in particular simple and automated
just-in-time compilation of function expressions. The LinearPDE and
NonlinearPDE classes have been replaced by a new class, VariationalProblem,
which handles both linear and nonlinear variational problems. In addition,
a large number of bugfixes and small improvements have been made. This
release requires the latest versions of FFC (0.6.0) and Viper.

Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
Internet
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: This is a PHP class that attempts to validate a given e-mail
address at three levels: matching the address against a RFC compliant
regular expression, verifing the existence of the destination SMTP server
by verifying the respective DNS MX record, and connecting to that server to
see if the given address is accepted as a valid recipient. The class also
features a debugging output option that lets you see the remote SMTP server
connection and data exchange dialog to see the real cause why an apparently
valid address may not be accepting messages.

[019] - fsarchiver 0.2.7
by François Dupoux (http://freshmeat.net/users/fdupoux/)
Mon, Jan 5th 2009 14:09
System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Filesystems
System :: Recovery Tools
About: fsarchiver is a system tool that allows you to save the contents of
a filesystem to a compressed archive file. The filesystem can be restored
on a partition that has a different size, and it can be restored on a
different filesystem. Unlike tar/dar, fsarchiver also creates the
filesystem when it extracts the data to partitions. Everything is
checksummed in the archive in order to protect the data. If the archive is
corrupt, you just lose the current file, not the whole archive.
Changes: This new version supports multiple filesystems per archive. The
syntax of "restfs" has been changed to allow extracting archives with
several filesystems. It also adds a new command "archinfo" to display
information about an existing image. The threads management has been
optimized. It's now possible to compress using lzma, as well as gzip and
bzip2.

[020] - get_iplayer 1.11
by Linuxcentre (http://freshmeat.net/users/linuxcentre/)
Mon, Jan 5th 2009 00:21
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
Multimedia :: Video
About: get_iplayer allows a user to download or stream any iPlayer program
from the BBC in H.264 (Quicktime/mp4) format, any radio programs in MP3 or
RealAudio format (optionally converted to WAV or MP3), and all podcasts in
MP3/AAC format. It even downloads the subtitles where available.
Changes: This release adds iPlayer Flash Audio download support via the
rtmpdump tool/ffmpeg. The --amode (Audio Mode) option can now be set to
'flashaudio'. This release displays --streaminfo data in a much clearer
way. It adds user meta-data to iPhone/h.264 downloaded video (hopefully
helps with iTunes). In Quicktime files, the ftyp atom is now the first one,
which makes it more MP4 compliant. stdout iphone video mode with resumed
downloads (broken in 1.06) is fixed. Retry reporting on failed downloads is
fixed. Known issue: flashaudio downloads appear to fail even though they
complete with rtmpdump 1.2.

[021] - GNU ddrescue 1.10-rc1 (Development)
by Antonio Diaz Diaz (http://freshmeat.net/users/ant_diaz/)
Mon, Jan 5th 2009 11:55
System :: Recovery Tools
About: GNU ddrescue is a data recovery tool. It copies data from one file
or block device (hard disc, cdrom, etc) to another, trying hard to rescue
data in case of read errors. GNU ddrescue does not truncate the output file
if not asked to. So, every time you run it on the same output file, it
tries to fill in the gaps. The basic operation of GNU ddrescue is fully
automatic. That is, you don't have to wait for an error, stop the program,
read the log, run it in reverse mode, etc. If you use the logfile feature
of GNU ddrescue, the data is rescued very efficiently (only the needed
blocks are read). Also you can interrupt the rescue at any time and resume
it later at the same point.
Changes: The size skipped when bad sectors are found has been made
independent of "cluster-size". "make install-info" should now work on
Debian and Mac OS X.

still flexible enough to allow the programmer freedom in the interfaces
created. GTK provides some unique features over standard widget libraries.
Changes: Many enhancements were made, notably to GtkFileChooser, GtkEntry,
GtkStatusIcon, GtkLinkButton, and GtkBuilder, as well as to printing
support. A new interface, GtkOrientable, was implemented for all widgets
that have horizontal and vertical variants. Theming was improved. Many bugs

[023] - Hammock 1.5
by Ernest Hammingweight (http://freshmeat.net/users/hammingweight/)
Mon, Jan 5th 2009 14:04
Software Development :: Testing
About: Hammock is a mock object framework for J2ME devices. It is used in
conjunction with unit test frameworks like JMUnit and J2MEUnit. The
framework includes mocks for many of the J2ME UI and I/O classes as well as
a utility, HammockMaker, for generating mocks of other classes.
Changes: A new method invocation handler was added, which requires less
boilerplate code than the CompositeHandler class for setting expectations
on mocks of concrete classes. The user guide has been trimmed from 33 pages
to 20 pages. A reference guide has been added to the release. Examples use
the recent JMUnit 1.2 Ant tasks for running tests as part of the build.

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors :: Raster-Based
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Graphics Conversion
About: ImgMod3 is a simple image cropping, scaling, and modification tool.
It is built with a single purpose: to be able to handle a large number of
files quickly, while retaining manual control. It uses PIL for the image
processing operations and wxPython as the user interface toolkit. By
cramming its basic feature set in a single window and automating repetitive
actions, ImgMod3 aims to be easier to use than a full featured graphics
program. Key features are automatic scaling to target size and full access
to functionality through keyboard shortcuts, minimizing the need for the
mouse.
Changes: Some legacy features were cleaned up. A desaturate function was
added. The Windows port was improved with respect to shell extension logic
and installer safety.

by Nostalghia (http://freshmeat.net/users/blindzone/)
Mon, Jan 5th 2009 08:31
Multimedia :: Graphics :: 3D Modeling
About: InnerWorld is an experimental landscape generator running inside
Blender 3d. The generator can be used for mesh creation and to populate the
virtual world with objects. Mesh generation and procedural object placement
can be defined by using a graph editor. Different noise sources and
operators can be arranged for procedural content creation. Meshes can be
generated from Blender's noise functions, FFT synthesizing, and external
gray scaled images acting as height fields.
Changes: Procedural object placement was implemented. User defined objects
can be duplicated to populate the generated mesh. For calculating
locations, different strategies can be selected. Supported strategies are
grids, Poisson disk sampling, and spirals. Random generators can add
variations in size, locations, and rotation to duplicated objects.

[049] - QMC2 0.2 beta 6
by Prian (http://freshmeat.net/users/prianthefist/)
Mon, Jan 5th 2009 21:32
System :: Emulators
About: M.A.M.E. Catalog / Launcher II (also referred to as QMC2) is the
successor of one of the first XMAME GUI frontends available, QMamecat
(derived from MAMECAT, which was text-only). QMC2 has been rebuilt from
scratch as a Qt 4 project. Parts of the design and code were inspired by
its predecessor. The new design was made as flexible as possible to
minimize dependencies from frontend- and CLI-related MAME changes, which
was a major deficiency of QMamecat. QMC2 uses a template-based MAME
configuration scheme, which can easily be enhanced with additional command
line options (defined in an XML template file).
Changes: The SDLMAME options template has been updated to 0.128u7. The
options joy_idx1 - joy_idx8 have been added. The template format has been
updated to include the template's emulator name. ROMAlyzer determines ROM
file CRC identification issues in ZIP files. Several macro definitions have
been changed to be consistent within QMC2's namespace. There are new make
options, a new SDLMESS options template (see data/opt/SDLMESS/template.xml,
initial version 0.128), experimental support for SDLMESS (very basic and no
device support yet), and much more.

Mon, Jan 5th 2009 00:11
Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Interpreters
About: Seed7 is a general purpose programming language. It is a higher
level language compared to Ada, C++, and Java. In Seed7, new statements and
operators can be declared easily. Functions with type results and type
parameters are more elegant than a template or generics concept. Object
orientation is used when it brings advantages and not in places when other
solutions are more obvious. Although Seed7 contains several concepts of
other programming languages, it is generally not considered as a direct
descendant of any other programming language.
Changes: A new example program (savehd7.sd7), which can be used to save a
partially damaged hard disk partition to an image file, was added. Spelling
errors in the FAQ and in the manual were fixed. The library line.s7i was
improved to be usable as a file that flushes every line. The bas7.sd7
(basic interpreter) example program was improved. The macros HAS_INT64TYPE
and INT64TYPE_IS_INT64 were replaced by INT64TYPE in various files. The
makefiles were improved to create defines for INT64TYPE and UINT64TYPE in
version.h . A makefile mk_osx.mak was added to support compilation under

Internet :: Proxy Servers
About: Tor-ramdisk is an i686 uClibc-based micro Linux distribution whose
only purpose is to host a Tor server in an environment that maximizes
security and privacy. Tor is a network of virtual tunnels that allows
people and groups to improve their privacy and security on the Internet.
Security is enhanced in tor-ramdisk by employing a monolithically compiled
GRSEC/PAX patched kernel and hardened system tools. Privacy is enhanced by
turning off logging at all levels so that even the Tor operator only has
access to minimal information. Finally, since everything runs in ephemeral
memory, no information survives a reboot, except for the Tor configuration
file and the private RSA key, which may be exported/imported by FTP.
Changes: This is a minor update to reflect updates upstream. tor is
updated to 0.2.0.32, and the kernel is updated to Gentoo's
2.6.25-hardened-r11. A minor bug regarding time synchronization was
addressed: ntpd now continues working correctly even if the networking
configuration is changed.
