[003] - Arno's IPTABLES Firewall Script 1.9.0
  by Arno (http://freshmeat.net/users/arnova/)
  Wed, Jan 7th 2009 15:54

System :: Networking
System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: Arno's IPTABLES Firewall Script is a secure stateful firewall for
both single and multi-homed machines. It supports NAT and SNAT, port
forwarding, ADSL ethernet modems with both static and dynamically assigned
IPs, MAC address filtering, stealth port scan detection, DMZ support,
protection against SYN/ICMP flooding, experimental IPv6 support,
multi-interface/aliased-IP support, and extensive user definable logging
with rate limiting to prevent log flooding. It has plugin support to add
extra features (like SSH Brute Force protection and (Racoon) IPSEC
support). It is easy to configure and highly customizable. A filter script
that makes your firewall log more readable is also included.

Changes: LAN_INET_HOST_DENY_TCP/UDP was fixed. The timeout/retry values
are set to the default for dig functions in the env-file. sysctl was fixed
for busybox setups which don't support -q. A sysctl wrapper was implemented
for this. A new traffic shaper was added. net.netfilter.nf_conntrack_max
was added as an additional sysctl key. AIF:-prefix was added to all LOG
messages. Fixes and tweaks were done in the install script. Verbose mode
was disabled by default in the init script. Miscellaneous plugin updates
were made.

[004] - AsItHappens 0.55
  by Mark Abrahams (http://freshmeat.net/users/markabrahams/)
  Wed, Jan 7th 2009 15:57

Games/Entertainment :: Arcade
System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: AsItHappens is a real-time network statistics collector and
grapher. It collects data from devices over a network via ICMP and SNMP and
displays them on a graph, optionally storing collected data in a database
for later retrieval. Collection types include network response, bandwidth
usage, processor usage, memory usage, Cisco NBAR, and Cisco NetFlow.
AsItHappens polls data in regular intervals, which can be in the order of
milliseconds, to give immediate feedback on network performance, and it can
also graph flow information from packet capture files. AsItHappens includes
the Self Defending Network, a horizontal shoot-em-up based on collected
graph data.

Changes: This release adds the ability to poll and graph arbitrary OID
values from an SNMP MIB.

  Wed, Jan 7th 2009 15:50

Communications
Internet
System :: Networking

About: CloudVPN is a VPN that allows mesh networking. It can create
secured networks with special or weird topologies. All nodes of the network
are equal and can connect in any way, so it's very easy to create
connection schemes with (for example) clustered servers, decentralized
servers, complete topologies for better throughput, ring topologies for
failover, long-line for passing through many routes, or tree topology for
optimizing inter-server bandwidth needs. It is very easy to get working.

Changes: A FreeBSD port added and mostly tested. An alternative improved
multipath routing algorithm for getting better security/bandwidth was
added. Some minor fixes were made.

[009] - Curie 6
  by jyujin (http://freshmeat.net/users/jyujin/)
  Wed, Jan 7th 2009 07:26

Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Operating System

About: Curie is a very minimalistic, tiny C library. It supports basic
I/O, basic networking, S-expression based I/O, signal handling, process
handling, and I/O multiplexing. If the target architecture is explicitly
supported, statically linked binaries may be as small as 4-20 kilobytes; if
not, then it only relies on the host's C library. The library explicitly
does not provide a POSIX interface so that it may be used in conjunction
with a regular host libc (or without one).

Changes: Apart from the regular bugfixes, this release adds directory
handling and regular expression matching to the list of curie's features.
Both new features should also have gotten proper documentation and a good
batch of testing, and a couple of oddities about the graph code have been
fixed in the process.

Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Chemistry

About: GAMGI (General Atomistic Modelling Graphic Interface) is a program
to build, view, and analyze atomic strucures such as molecules, crystals,
glasses, liquids, etc. It aims to be useful for: the scientific community
working in Atomistic Modelling that needs a graphic interface to build
input data and to view and analyse output data, calculated with Ab-Initio
and Molecular Mechanics programs; the scientific community at large
studying chemistry, physics, materials science, geology, etc., that needs a
graphic interface to view and analyse atomic structural information and to
prepare images for presentations in classes and seminars; teaching
chemistry and physics in secondary schools and universities; science
promotion in schools, exhibitions and science museums.

Changes: This release fixes a few copyright issues raised by the Debian
legal team. It includes most of the code needed to implement a fast,
sophisticated 3D convex hull incremental algorithm. This is array-based (to
be faster), with arrays of cell lists (to speed up sampling) and conflict
lists (to be NlogN), and can handle coplanar issues, non-triangular faces,
periodic boundary conditions, etc. It will be useful to describe arbitrary
sets of arbitrary polyhedra defined by atoms, such as in superconductors,
silicates, glasses, etc.

[019] - libev 3.52
  by Marc A. Lehmann (http://freshmeat.net/users/pcg1/)
  Wed, Jan 7th 2009 21:30

Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Libraries :: Perl Modules
System :: Networking

About: Libev is a high-performance event loop for C (with optional and
separate interfaces for C++ and Perl), featuring support for I/O, timers
(relative and absolute, cron-like ones), signals, process status changes,
and other types of events. It has both a fast native API and libevent
emulation to support programs written using the libevent API. The libev
distribution consists of libevent with the core event handling parts
replaced by the libev embedded event loop. Differences to libevent include
higher speed, simpler design, more features, less memory usage,
embedability, and no arbitrary limits. libev supports epoll, kqueue,
Solaris event ports, poll, and select.

Changes: This release mainly disables the use of kqueue and poll on OS X
again. Their use was erroneously enabled in 3.51, but these functions are
notoriously broken on OS X. The select backend in fd_set mode has seen some
bugfixes, and will actually compile now on platforms that need the fd_set
mode (such as QNX). Apart from these changes, a number of minor bugfixes
and improvements have been implemented.

  Wed, Jan 7th 2009 06:41

Multimedia
Software Development :: Libraries

About: Kate is a codec for karaoke and text encapsulation for Ogg. Most of
the time, this would be multiplexed with audio/video to carry subtitles,
song lyrics (with or without karaoke data), etc, but it doesn't have to be.
A possible use of a lone Kate stream would be an e-book. Moreover, the
motion feature gives Kate a powerful means to describe arbitrary curves, so
hand drawing of shapes can be achieved. This was originally meant for
karaoke use, but can be used for any purpose. Motions can be attached to
various semantics, like position or color, so scrolling or fading text can
be defined.

Changes: Repeats are supported to help seeking. The katalyzer tool was
added to display information about Kate streams. The KateDJ GUI remuxing
tool was added. kate_encode_set_id is now obsolete, and an event's ID is
now autogenerated. A problem in which kate_granule_time ignored the time
offset was fixed. kate_granule_split_time was exposed in the API. More
validation is done for UTF-8 text from SRT input files.

[028] - Minerva 2.3.1
  by Steven Goodwin (http://freshmeat.net/users/steevatbluedust/)
  Wed, Jan 7th 2009 15:39

Home Automation

About: Minerva is a complete, easy to use home automation suite. It allows
you to switch your on lights from anywhere using a mobile phone or PC,
email your video, check CCTV footage, control your central heating, and
much more. It relies on command line and can therefore be run from
virtually any platform (smart phone, PDA, laptop, or remote PC) with
identical functionality. The architecture consists of three parts: input,
output, and process. Each is completely distinct, meaning you can control
any of the house processes from any supported input conduit such as a Web
browser, remote control, or SMS. Reports or notifications can be sent to
any of the available output conduits.

Changes: Weather update now creates a machine-friendly description file.
The weather report Web applet was greatly improved. A bug in cdplayer which
occurred when the track was 08 or 09 was fixed. Media status output was
improved.

Database
Database :: Front-Ends

About: MyJgui is a GUI (graphical user interface) for MySQL. It aims to be
easy to use for new users as well as experts. You can store multiple
connections that can be used simultaneously. Stored passwords are encrypted
using symmetric encryption. Underlying databases and tables are displayed
in a tree structure with the connections being the first level nodes.
MyJgui is capable of easy data manipulation through a grid. It has a unique
feature of bookmarking parametrical queries (sqlmarks). The documentation
(user guide) is quite comprehensive and kept up-to-date.

Changes: You can hide/show columns in the Content tab of a table. This
option is also managed in the Preferences. A new option was added in the
quick search dialog to select count(*). In the wizard for table creation,
you can now choose the database where the new table should be created.
Afterwards, an automatic refresh of the database tree is performed.
