[001] - Absolute OS 12.2.1
  by Paul Sherman (http://freshmeat.net/users/psherma1/)
  Fri, Jan 9th 2009 10:36

About: Absolute Linux is a lightweight Slackware derivative that uses an
Icewm, pcmanfm, ROX-Filer, ivman, and others to create a lightweight yet
easy to use distribution. Installation is text-based but simplified, and
all packages are installed at once. It can run on a Pentium II and above,
including SMP systems. A minimum 128MB RAM is recommended. It features ease
of browsing any connected device in pcmanfm and an auto-popup menu for
inserted playable media. "Restricted" codecs are available to those
eligible via a root-user installer. There is a large range of software
available, including OpenOffice, Mplayer, GIMP, and K3B.

Changes: This is primarily a security update. Several major applications
have recently undergone security-related updates: Firefox, Samba,
Seamonkey, Pidgin, and Thunderbird. PTP camera auto-mounting has been
updated as well as wicd. GIMP has been updated twice since the last
release. The newer version of the help system now works properly and is on
CD2. A couple of other updates were made. The package for WPClipart-7.1 is
online and ready to install onto Absolute.

[006] - Back In Time 0.9
  by Dan (http://freshmeat.net/users/danleweb/)
  Fri, Jan 9th 2009 13:38

System :: Archiving :: Backup
Utilities

About: Back In Time is a simple backup system for the GNOME desktop
inspired by the "flyback project" and "TimeVault". The backup is done by
taking snapshots of a specified set of directories. All you have to do is
configure: where to save snapshot, what directories to backup, and when a
backup should be done (manually, every hour, every day, every week, or
every month). It acts as a "user mode" backup system. This means that you
can backup and restore only folders to which you have write access.

Changes: This release updates the Spanish and German translations, makes
the .deb packages more Debian-friendly, separates the common and
GNOME-specific files, and divides the backintime package into
backintime-common and backintime-gnome. When you open the snapshots dialog
more than once and make a diff, it will now make the diff on the file for
the first dialog (or all previous dialogs), and then for the current one.

  Fri, Jan 9th 2009 21:49

Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules
System :: Boot
System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions

About: Cobbler is a network installation and update server. It can be used
to automatically set up PXE, install virtual guests, manage answer files,
and reinstall existing Linux machines. Advanced features include importing
distributions from DVDs and rsync mirrors, kickstart templating, integrated
yum mirroring (integrated with the installer to make updates available at
install time), creation of netboot ISOs, and built-in DHCP/DNS Management.
Tools such as "cobbler triggers", a Python API, and an XMLRPC API allow
integration with cobbler with the rest of your datacenter environment or
other systems management applications. There is also a Web interface to
simplify management of the install server. Cobbler supports RHEL 4+,
Fedora, and derivative distributions, and is also able to install other
popular distributions.

[012] - DBIx::Perlish 0.51
  by Grrrr (http://freshmeat.net/users/Grrrr/)
  Fri, Jan 9th 2009 17:57

About: The DBIx::Perlish module provides the ability to work with
databases supported by the DBI module using Perl's own syntax for the four
most common operations: SELECT, UPDATE, DELETE, and INSERT. By using
DBIx::Perlish, you can write most of your database queries using a
domain-specific language with Perl syntax. However, the module is not
intended to replace all use of SQL in your program. The DBIx::Perlish
module quite intentionally neither implements nor cares about database
administration tasks like schema design and management.

Changes: This release fixes another problem with multiple joins. It
supports REs as a term.

[013] - Deliantra Server 2.75

  Fri, Jan 9th 2009 17:58

Games/Entertainment
Games/Entertainment :: Multi-User Dungeons (MUD)
Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing

About: Deliantra is an advancement of the crossfire multi-user RPG game.
Unlike the original project, it focuses mainly on stability and
playability, but also adds modern technology such as map scripting, Perl
server extensions, asynchronous I/O, higher resolution graphics, and better
client support.

Changes: Map scripts have been implemented, which are going to replace
most of the boulder logic in the maps. Lightning has been rebalanced again,
and the monster's ability to follow the trail of a player is now dependent
on their wisdom. Alchemy-like skills can't be used with any cauldron
anymore. A cheat in nimbus, which allowed infinite retries in minesweeper,
has been fixed. Recreating monsters will no longer propagate when there is
no player the map.

[014] - deltasql 1.004
  by Tiziano Mengotti (http://freshmeat.net/users/dangermouse_1/)
  Fri, Jan 9th 2009 13:42

Database :: Database Engines/Servers
Software Development :: Version Control

About: deltasql is a tool to synchronize databases with source code, which
helps to keep database evolution under control. While developing mid-sized
or big applications, developers make changes to the data model that go
along with changes to the source code. From time to time, branches of
source code are done to stabilize the code that will go to production. A
sort of data model branch is also needed. deltasql provides a simple way to
collect all scripts that change the data model and means to handle data
model branches. The deltasql server runs on Apache and is backed by MySQL.

Changes: This release adds the ability to create a branch of branches. To
create one, browse the "List Branches" page and chooses the Duplicate link.
After that, the new duplicated branch can develop its own history, as
scripts might belong to the old, to the new, or to both branches. In this
version, if someone modifies a script, the modification date and username
are recorded and displayed in the "List scripts" page.

  Fri, Jan 9th 2009 18:00

Communications :: Telephony
Utilities

About: Gammu (formerly known as MyGnokii2) is a cellular manager for
various mobile phones/modems. It supports a wide variety of Nokia, Symbian,
and AT devices (Siemens, Alcatel, Falcom, WaveCom, IPAQ, Samsung, SE, and
others) over cables, infrared, or BlueTooth. It contains libraries with
functions for ringtones, phonebook, SMS, logos, WAP, date/time, alarm,
calls, and more (used by external applications like Wammu). It also
includes a command line utility that can make many things (including
backups) and an SMS gateway with full MySQL and PostgreSQL support from the
PHP interface.

Changes: The biggest changes are in the SMS daemon, which has a lot of
improvements and is now in a separate binary, gammu-smsd. It can log
better, can work as a proper daemon or Windows Service, can be debugged
more easily, and can reload the configuration on the fly. The Gammu command
line interface now supports text for text messages to be entered through a
parameter and not just using standard input, and it has a new chekfirmware
command. The SMS daemon, all related things, and gammu configuration files
now have man pages, which boosts the documentation level from none to
almost perfect.

[034] - Nagzilla 1.5.3
  by Hurricane Labs (http://freshmeat.net/users/hurricanelabs/)
  Fri, Jan 9th 2009 21:47

About: Nagzilla was designed to be a Jabber relay "bot", in that it sits
quietly in a room until it gets a message to relay to either a chat room or
a person. The early work was based on several simple examples out on the
Internet, but would just keep logging into a room every time the bot had
something to say. It was made a daemon, which allows it to get Nagzilla
alerts from various systems and event creators. Nagzillac (the client
program) accepts any string input and makes it into a Jabber message. This
should work with Google Talk (as it's Jabber-based), but that is untested.

Changes: This release adds user change, a liblog-loglite-perl module to
help with logging, and very simple logging. Some code has been replaced
(array handling, etc.).

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Build Tools
Software Development :: Libraries

About: qooxdoo is a comprehensive and innovative AJAX application
framework. Leveraging object-oriented JavaScript allows developers to build
impressive cross-browser applications. No HTML, CSS, or DOM knowledge is
needed. It includes a platform-independent development tool chain, a GUI
toolkit, and an advanced client-server communication layer. It is under an
LGPL/EPL dual license.

Changes: This is quite a comprehensive release, with many bugfixes and
some useful new features. It is recommended as an upgrade for existing
applications. A new interactive application called "Playground" was
introduced. It allows for experimenting with qooxdoo application code.

[047] - TkResolver++ 0.6.1
  by Bob Ham (http://freshmeat.net/users/node/)
  Fri, Jan 9th 2009 21:48

Scientific/Engineering

About: TkResolver++ is a suite of software for conducting experiments into
psychokinesis (specifically retropsychokinesis.) It uses the output from a
random number generator to determine the course of a line as it is drawn
down the computer screen. Experiments consist of an operator who attempts
to influence the behaviour of the line drawing. The software records in a
database the operator's details, the experimental variables, and the
observed results. The suite includes programs for conducting visualisation
and statistical analysis of the database.

Changes: The integer and unsigned property types were merged into a single
long integer type which means a change to the property tables; this should
hopefully be the last such change. A bug was fixed in the editor where
empty constraints caused a crash. A bug was fixed in libtkquery where no
rows were returned. A bug was fixed in the Analyser where bad
property-getting caused a crash.
