Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Interpreters

About: Bigloo is an implementation of the Scheme programming language. It
relies on an optimizing compiler from Scheme to C. Bigloo enables
connections between Scheme code and C code. It proposes many extensions to
Scheme such as a regular parser compiler, an lalr parser compiler, pattern
matching, an object layer, etc.

Changes: A new mail API has been added wit support for Maildir, IMAP,
vcard, RFC 2045, RFC 2047, and RFC 2822. New compiler optimizations were
implemented. New system APIs were added, including getuid/setuid,
os-charset, socket-option, and get-protocols. New Makefiles that support
parallel compilation were provided. This version has been successfully
installed on a range of platforms.

[014] - FreeCC 0.9.3
  by Jonathan Revusky (http://freshmeat.net/users/revusky/)
  Tue, Jan 13th 2009 18:35

Software Development :: Code Generators

About: FreeCC (formerly KawaDD) is parser/lexer generator written in Java.
It is a development fork of the well known JavaCC parser generator
originally developed at Sun Microsystems. It has extra features such as
"code injection" and more flexible tree-building strategies. Also, it is
far easier to customize the code the tool generates, because it uses
FreeMarker templates that can be tailored for one's needs.

Changes: A major bug was fixed where FreeCC would not work on many
grammars that contain case-insensitive token matching. The
Node/Token/BaseNode API was rounded out and cleaned up. The MULTI option
now generates subclasses of Token as well as BaseNode. An introductory
tutorial (still incomplete) has been added. Many out-of-the-box defaults
have been changed. Code generated by the tool Generated code now requires
JDK 1.5.

About: G4L is a hard disk and partition imaging and cloning tool. The
created images are optionally compressed, and they can be stored on a local
hard drive or transferred to an anonymous FTP server. A drive can be cloned
using the "Click'n'Clone" function. G4L supports file splitting if the
local filesystem does not support writing files >2GB. The included kernel
supports ATA, serial-ATA, and SCSI drives. Common network cards are
supported. It is packaged as a bootable CD image with an ncurses GUI for
easy use.

Changes: busybox 1.13.2 and syslinux 3.73 pre 7 were included. Applets
were cleaned up. updcast was updated. The kernel was updated to version
2.6.27.10, and 2.6.28 was added. chkldd was added for checking libraries.
Programs were moved to match with the location on Fedora 8. Fedora's dd and
gzip are now used again because of speed issues. grub4dos is used to run
g4l from NTFS partitions. An option to use the run="command" from grub was
added to g4lmenu.

[019] - gWaei 0.13.0
  by Zachary Dovel (http://freshmeat.net/users/pizzach2/)
  Tue, Jan 13th 2009 18:39

Education

About: gWaei is a Japanese-English dictionary program for the GNOME
desktop. It is made to be a modern drop-in replacement for Gjiten, with
many of the same features. The dictionary files it uses are from Jim
Breen's WWWJDIC project and are installed separately through the program.
It features easy dictionary installation, support for searching using
regular expressions, streaming of results so the interface is never frozen,
and a simple interface that makes sense.

Changes: There is a new libsexy dependency that allows spell checking in
the search entry. The documentation has had a large overhaul. The help
manual is a bit more complete, and the README gives better install
directions. The grey highlighting was a bad idea in 0.12.0. A bug where
some users could not type into the search entry was fixed. This is the
first version to have PPC RPM and deb packages.

  Tue, Jan 13th 2009 02:02

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Security
System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: httpry is a specialized packet sniffer designed for displaying and
logging HTTP traffic. It is not intended to perform analysis itself, but
instead to capture, parse, and log the traffic for later analysis. It can
be run in real-time displaying the live traffic on the wire, or as a daemon
process that logs to an output file. It is written to be as lightweight and
flexible as possible, so that it can be easily adaptable to different
applications. It does not display the raw HTTP data transferred, but
instead focuses on parsing and displaying the request/response line along
with associated header fields.

Changes: The program now parses all standard request methods by default,
and has a new -m switch to allow the selection of which methods to parse.
There are also a number of less visible improvements to make the structure
and output more consistent. Two new plugins were added to the included log
parser to provide additional options and examples.

of the WAP infrastructure freely to everyone so the market potential for
WAP services, both from wireless operators and specialized service
providers, will be realized as efficiently as possible. It also works as an
SMS gateway for GSM networks. Almost all GSM phones can use it to send and
receive SMS messages, so this is a way to serve many more clients than just
those using a WAP phone. Kannel was among the first WAP gateways to be
certified as WAP 1.1 compliant.

System :: Monitoring

About: Likewise Open is an application that joins Linux, Unix, and Mac OS
machines to Microsoft Active Directory and securely authenticates users
with their domain credentials. Features include: joining non-Windows
systems to Active Directory domains in a single step from the command line
or from a GUI; authenticating users with a single user name and password;
enforcing the same password policies for all platforms; supporting multiple
forests with one-way and two-way cross forest trusts; caching credentials
in case your domain controller goes down; and providing single sign-on for
SSH and Putty. It does not require Active Directory schema changes for
installation.

Changes: Improved performance. When a duplicate UID is found, it will go
to AD to get info on a user rather than updating the cache. When a bad
username/password is given to domainjoin, it will report "password is
incorrect for this account" instead of "call to krb5 failed." Unix
attributes from AD are no longer ignored in the default cell.

[044] - Ping Tunnel 0.7

  Tue, Jan 13th 2009 22:38

Internet :: Proxy Servers
System :: Networking

About: Ping Tunnel is a tool for reliably tunneling TCP connections over
ICMP echo request and reply packets (commonly known as ping requests and
replies). It is useful for evading firewalls that, for whatever reason,
prevent outgoing TCP connections, but allow in- and outgoing ICMP packets.
The tunnel works by having a proxy run on a machine ping-able from the
inside of the firewall, with the client running on the local machine from
which TCP access is required.

Changes: This release adds support for syslog and compilation on Windows.
It also enables tunneling over UDP port 53, and fixes a few minor bugs (in
particular, ptunnel should no longer crash due to failed DNS lookups).

About: TTG is a small command line utility that displays current
throughput (bandwidth usage) on an interface of a remote device such as
router, switch, firewall, etc., over SNMP. You can think of TTG as command
line version of STG, or a high-interval/ad-hoc query/test tool for MRTG,

Software Development

About: WebSite Auditor is a tool for anyone dealing with Web site
promotion. This software gives you an in-depth look into your top 10
competitors' page content. All the data is presented in a customizable
table, accompanied by the illustrative cloudmap of keywords contained
within the page. A built-in report explains in plain English what to do
with the information collected. It will also use the gathered data to
create an optimization plan tailored for your page.

Changes: A new option was added to let you update data for your Web page
only. The algorithms for the Google, Altavista, Yahoo!, and Alexa search
engines were updated. Support for twelve new search engines was added,
including Google Groups, as well as many Italian and Malaysian search
engines.
