Information Management :: Issue Tracking
Security
System :: Diagnostics
About: Advchk (Advisory Check) is a tool for monitoring the security of
installed software. It gathers security advisories using RSS, RDF, or XML
feeds, compares them against a list of known software, and alerts you if
you're vulnerable. Advchk leverages your system's package manager for
detecting software. Software installed on remote systems can be monitored
using SSH to run the package manager or by using NMAP scans. Supported
package managers: pkg_info, pkginfo, dpkg, RPM, LPP, Portage, inst,
MacPorts, and Fink.
Changes: This release adds support for HP-UX swlist(1m) packages. It adds
6 feeds to advchk-addfeeds.sh. Some SSH stuff has been added.

Information Management
Software Development :: Libraries :: Ruby Modules
System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions
About: The Amahi Home Server is a Linux Home Server based on Fedora (and
later on Ubuntu). Your machine becomes a "Home Digital Assistant" or HDA
after the installation. Each HDA is a Fedora-based server targeted for home
and home office environments. It provides an iTunes server, calendaring, a
wiki, shared network storage, network backups, a printer server, VPN, and a
plug-in architecture built on Ruby on Rails.
Changes: This release fixes a number of small issues regarding the
location of shares (an extra /, or more, could render a bad httpd
configuration). It also adds an empty htpasswd file in the password
directory for user access control to Web applications. The permissions of
the production.log were fixed.

Software Development :: Documentation
Software Development :: Quality Assurance
About: Cloc counts blank lines, comment lines, and physical lines of
source code in many programming languages. It is written entirely in Perl,
using only modules from the standard distribution of Perl 5.6 and higher,
and so is quite portable.
Changes: This release adds support for the VHDL language and improves the
filter that distinguishes between MATLAB, MUMPS, and Objective C files.
Additionally, the tool now processes archive files directly on Unix-like
operating systems. One can issue, for example, "cloc perl-5.10.0.tar.gz" to
count code within this compressed tar file.

Security
System :: Monitoring
System :: Networking :: Firewalls
About: fwknop implements an authorization scheme called Single Packet
Authorization that requires only a single encrypted packet to communicate
various pieces of information, including desired access through an iptables
or ipfw firewall policy and/or specific commands to execute on the target
system. The main application of this program is to protect services such as
SSH with an additional layer of security in order to make the exploitation
of vulnerabilities much more difficult. The authorization server works by
passively monitoring authorization packets via libpcap. Also supported is a
robust port knocking implementation based around iptables log messages.
Changes: The ability to send SPA packets over HTTP requests was added. The
fwknopd server was updated to support sniffing interfaces that have no IP
address assigned, and also to support sniffing ppp interfaces on Linux
systems. A bug was fixed to make sure to properly construct a hash
reference for the "include" command list for the check_commands() function
when checking for the mail command. A bug was fixed to add --Override
configuration support to knopwatchd. A bug was fixed to properly support
SPA packets over ICMP.

[019] - Monitorix 1.2.3
by Jordi Sanfeliu (http://freshmeat.net/users/Mikaku/)
Wed, Jan 14th 2009 14:45
System :: Monitoring
About: Monitorix is a lightweight monitoring tool designed to monitor as
many services as it can. At this time, it monitors from the CPU load and
temperatures to the users on the system. Network device activity, network
service demand, and even the devices' interrupt activity are also
monitored. It uses RRDtool as its logging and graphing back-end. The
current status of any corporate UNIX/Linux server with Monitorix installed
can be accessed via a Web browser.
Changes: This is mainly a maintenance version that fixes several issues.
The way that Monitorix creates the iptables rules that prevented one from
seeing the INPUT chain activity in the defined network ports was changed.
Another change directly affected the init script to removed the dependency
of the command lockfile, making it more portable to other systems. Some
other fixes were also implemented.

About: queXF (pronounced kweks-eff) takes scanned paper forms generated
using queXML and reads them. Operators can then verify that queXF has read
the form correctly. Once this is done, the data collected can be exported
in a fixed width ASCII file with a DDI data description. queXF can be used
as an alternative to programs such as Cardiff Teleform and Remark OMR, in
some situations. It removes the need to manually enter form data, therefore
reducing error and fatigue. It does OMR (Optical Mark Recognition) on each
form to determine if boxes have been filled, and can use Tesseract OCR to
determine what characters have been entered into boxes.
Changes: queXF will now scale, rotate, and offset a page to better handle
scanning irregularities. Missing page handling was improved by
automatically entering a missing page into the set if only one page is
missing from the set.

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
About: Stunnix JS-Obfus protects your JavaScript code from potential
analyzing/studying/reworking by unwanted parties. It's both an obfuscator

JavaScript/JScript source files into highly mangled and obfuscated form,
making it extremely difficult to study, analyse, reuse, and re-work for
competitors or customers, while fully retaining functionality of the
original source code, and then encodes it afterwards, making it completely

About: Tig is a git repository browser that additionally can act as a
pager for output from various git commands. When browsing repositories, it
uses the underlying git commands to present the user with various views,
such as a summarized revision log and showing the commit with the log

Changes: This release contains a major rewrite of the IO layer of tig to
use fork and exec instead of popen() and to remove the use of stdio's
fopen() and friends. The new IO API removes the need for shell quoting and
improves the overall speed of loading view data. On the downside, it brings

Adaptive Technologies
Security
Software Development :: Compilers
About: UpStare is a dynamic software updating system (compiler, runtime,
and patch-generator) for multi-threaded userspace applications. It allows
semi-automatic updates to programs that could not be updated with existing
approaches, or could be updated with a possibly indefinite delay between
the time an update is requested and the time the update is applied. The
approach can replace functions active on the stack by applying stack
reconstruction, which can update program state and program code immediately
in a single step. This obviates the need to rely on statically determined
safe update points, which might not exist, and can update server-side code
without closing client connections.
Changes: This release considerably improves the ability of the patch
generator to automatically produce stack transformers and incorporate
user-defined stack transformers. It also implements support for blocking
system calls in a much more efficient way.

[032] - Xplico 0.1-imap
by Gianluca Costa (http://freshmeat.net/users/gcosta/)

Communications :: Email
Security :: Forensics
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
About: The goal of Xplico is to extract the applications data from an
Internet traffic capture. For example, from a pcap file Xplico extracts
each email (POP, IMAP, and SMTP protocols), all HTTP contents, each VoIP
call (SIP), and so on. Xplico isn't a packet sniffer or a network protocol
analyzer; it's an IP/Internet traffic decoder or network forensic analysis
tool (NFAT).
Changes: The IMAP dissector was added. This dissector makes it possible to
reconstruct email messages (with all attachments) from a pcap IMAP capture.

Communications :: File Sharing
Information Management
Internet :: Name Service (DNS)
About: YaCy is a personal Web crawler and Web search engine. It's also a
P2P-based Web index exchange network without a central server and no
censoring possibility. Web crawls can be done locally, or you can trigger a
collaborative Web crawl with all other YaCy peers. YaCy is fun to use and
shows interesting text, image, audio and video search results with direct
links to Ogg, MP3, and video files. It has a cooperative bookmark system
and many Web publishing functions.
Changes: The full international character set and all UTF-8 characters are
now supported for indexing and search. Support has been added for site:,
inurl:, and filetype: operator search. A public API has been added to the
search results, the indexing, and link structure in XML and JSON syntax.
