[001] - Armadillo C++ Library 0.3.0
by gtfjbl (http://freshmeat.net/users/gtfjbl/)
Fri, Jan 16th 2009 13:10
Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
Software Development :: Libraries
About: The Armadillo C++ Library aims to provide an efficient base for
linear algebra operations (matrix and vector maths) while having a
straightforward and easy to use interface. Its intended target audience is
scientists and engineers. A delayed evaluation approach is employed (during
compile time) in order to combine several operations into one and reduce or
eliminate the need for temporaries. Where applicable, the order of
operations is optimized. Delayed evaluation and optimization are achieved
through recursive templates and template meta-programming.
Changes: Support was added for complex numbers as well as other types
(e.g. int, float). Trigonometric functions were added.

[004] - Back In Time 0.9.2
by Dan (http://freshmeat.net/users/danleweb/)
Fri, Jan 16th 2009 13:20
System :: Archiving :: Backup
Utilities
About: Back In Time is a simple backup system for the GNOME desktop
inspired by the "flyback project" and "TimeVault". The backup is done by
taking snapshots of a specified set of directories. All you have to do is
configure: where to save snapshot, what directories to backup, and when a
backup should be done (manually, every hour, every day, every week, or
every month). It acts as a "user mode" backup system. This means that you
can backup and restore only folders to which you have write access.
Changes: The Spanish and German translations were updated. A bug was fixed
in which if you add "/a" in include directories and "/a/b" in exclude
patterns, "/a/b*" items are not excluded. rsync is used instead of diff to
check if a new snapshot is needed. Code cleanup was done. A toggle button
to show hidden and backup files was added to the files view. A bug was
fixed in which ".*" items were not included even if they were not excluded.

Fri, Jan 16th 2009 00:20
About: Cacheboy Squid is a Squid-2 deriative that aims to build on top of
the Squid-2 codebase stability. The primary short-term aims of this

compression support, IPv6 support, better storage, and initial threading
support for certain subsystems.

Fri, Jan 16th 2009 12:40
System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Archiving :: Mirroring
About: Clonezilla is a partition or disk cloning tool similar to Symantec
Ghost. It saves and restores only blocks in use on the hard drive if the
file system is supported. For unsupported file systems, dd is used instead.
It has been used to clone a 5 GB system to 40 clients in about 10 minutes.
Changes: Some features were added, and bugs were fixed. The features added
are related to the new Spanish language support and MS Windows clone. An
option was added so that the CHS of an NTFS boot partition can be fixed by
ntfsreloc. The hidden data between the MBR and the first partition will be
cloned. This is useful for some recovery tools on MS Windows. Some minor
bugs were fixed.

[018] - GNU Rush 1.5
by Wojciech Polak (http://freshmeat.net/users/ghostface/)
Fri, Jan 16th 2009 23:21
About: GNU Rush is a Restricted User Shell designed for sites providing
limited remote access to their resources, such as SVN or Git repositories,
scp, or the like. Using a sophisticated configuration file, Rush gives you
complete control over the command lines that users execute, as well as over
the usage of system resources such as virtual memory, CPU time, etc. In
particular, it allows you to run remote programs in a chrooted environment,
which is important with such programs as sftp-server or scp that lack this
ability.
Changes: This version implements a new "post-process notification"
feature, which allows it to notify third-party programs via an INET or Unix
socket. The configuration file syntax has been extended with the new
'include' statement. Before startup, rush runs a sequence of security
checks over the main configuration file and any eventual include files, and
refuses to start up if any of these fail. Internationalization support is
available, and translations to Polish and Ukrainian are included.

[032] - Pantheios 1.0.1 beta 178
by Dr Proctor (http://freshmeat.net/users/DrProctor/)
Fri, Jan 16th 2009 13:15
Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Logging
About: Pantheios is a C/C++ logging API library. It offers an optimal
combination of complete type-safety, very high efficiency, genericity, and
extensibility. It is simple to use and extend, highly portable (platform
and compiler independent), and it upholds the C tradition of only paying
for what you use. Pantheios supports logging of message statements of
arbitrary complexity, consisting of heterogenous types. Pantheios supports
filtering of log messages based on severity level.
Changes: This release adds the PANTHEIOS_BE_FILE_F_SHARE_ON_WINDOWS flag,
which causes be.file to allow write-sharing on Windows.

[033] - Perl-Critic 1.094001
by Alexandr Ciornii (http://freshmeat.net/users/chorny/)
Fri, Jan 16th 2009 15:12
Software Development
Software Development :: Libraries :: Perl Modules
Software Development :: Quality Assurance
About: Perl::Critic is an extensible framework for creating and applying
coding standards to Perl source code. Essentially, it is a static source
code analysis engine. It is distributed with a number of
Perl::Critic::Policy modules that attempt to enforce various coding
guidelines. Most Policy modules are based on Damian Conway's book Perl Best
Practices. However, Perl::Critic is not limited to PBP, and will even
support Policies that contradict Conway. You can enable, disable, and
customize those Polices through the Perl::Critic interface. You can also
create new Policy modules that suit your own tastes.
Changes: This release fixes tests which would fail on systems without
Regexp::Parser.

[034] - phc 0.2.0.1
by Edsko (http://freshmeat.net/users/edsko/)
Fri, Jan 16th 2009 15:10
Software Development
Software Development :: Compilers
About: phc is a compiler for PHP with support for plugins. Programmers can
use it to compile PHP source into an executable program, compile a Web
application into a Zend PHP extension, pretty-print PHP code, or combine
many PHP scripts into a single file (experimental). Tool developers can use
phc to analyze, modify, or refactor PHP scripts using C++ plugins, or
convert PHP into a well-defined XML format, process it with your own tools,
and convert it back to PHP.
Changes: The installer for phc did not install all files necessary for
compilation, so that it could only be used from within the phc source
directory. This should now be corrected.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
About: Werc is a minimalistic RESTful content management system
implemented as a collection of shell scripts written in the rc shell and
taking advantage of other Plan 9 tools available on *nix systems as part of
"Plan 9 from User Space". It is designed to be fast, simple, convenient,
and easily extensible (you can easily integrate your own dynamic content
with the rest of the site). It handles both small and big sites well,
including seamless multi-domain handling. All data is stored as plain text
files without need of a database and there is support for blog directories
with automatic RSS feed generation (and multi-feed aggregation).
Changes: The new app framework was finished, with many big improvements
and optimizations. More pluggable handlers were added, so multiple apps can
handle different parts of the page, allowing for things like wiki,
comments, and tags. Static files can be served, which makes HTTP server
configuration much simpler. Many improvements, optimizations, and code
cleanups were made.
