  Sat, Jan 17th 2009 17:07

Utilities

About: ChmSee is a Compiled HTML Help (CHM) file viewer. It uses the gecko
rendering engine, and features bookmarks.

Changes: "Copy Page Location" was added to the context menu. Hebrew,
Swahili, and Bengali translations were added.

[002] - CloudVPN 1.0.4
  by [exa] (http://freshmeat.net/users/exaexa/)
  Sat, Jan 17th 2009 17:26

Communications
Internet
System :: Networking

About: CloudVPN is a VPN that allows mesh networking. It can create
secured networks with special or weird topologies. All nodes of the network
are equal and can connect in any way, so it's very easy to create
connection schemes with (for example) clustered servers, decentralized
servers, complete topologies for better throughput, ring topologies for
failover, long-line for passing through many routes, or tree topology for
optimizing inter-server bandwidth needs. It is very easy to get working.

Changes: Several errors with SSL and ping computation were corrected. Bad
route information handling was fixed. This version can be compiled on
OpenBSD.

[003] - dyncall 0.3
  by Daniel Adler (http://freshmeat.net/users/pl3x/)
  Sat, Jan 17th 2009 17:25

Software Development :: Libraries

About: The dyncall library project provides a clean and portable C
interface to dynamically issue foreign function calls using small call
kernels written in assembly. Instead of providing code for every bridged
function call, which unnecessarily results in code bloat, only a modest
number of instructions are used to invoke all calls.

Changes: Two new ports were added for ARM THUMB mode and PowerPC 32-bit
System V ABI. The System V port has been tested on Linux, but the *BSDs are
currently untested. A bug was fixed for cygwin/GNU as a tool chain.
Additions and improvements were made in the test suites. Minor cosmetic
changes and documentation updates were made.

Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
Software Development :: Object Brokering

About: FFMQ is a fully Java, lightweight, fast native JMS 1.1
implementation. From the conception stage, emphasis was made on
architecture and performance. As a consequence, extra features were not a
priority and may appear scarce compared to other available implementations.

Changes: Some JMX issues and some minor glitches were fixed. Interaction
with external code was improved.

[005] - gWaei 0.13.1
  by Zachary Dovel (http://freshmeat.net/users/pizzach2/)
  Sat, Jan 17th 2009 17:21

Education

About: gWaei is a Japanese-English dictionary program for the GNOME
desktop. It is made to be a modern drop-in replacement for Gjiten, with
many of the same features. The dictionary files it uses are from Jim
Breen's WWWJDIC project and are installed separately through the program.
It features easy dictionary installation, support for searching using
regular expressions, streaming of results so the interface is never frozen,
and a simple interface that makes sense.

Changes: Bugs were fixed, the most noteworthy of which was an infinite
loop on startup that some computers encountered. There was a crasher bug
that occurred when attempting to print only one highlighted line in the
results. A crasher which occurred when users would go back or forward after
switching dictionaries was fixed. There have been a few minor features
added as well. Alt-left and alt-right will go back and forward in the
search history, much like a Web browser. Shift-tab will cycle backwards
through the dictionaries.

About: IndiMail is a mailing solution built upon qmail and other mailing
software. IndiMail also provides management of virtual domains. IndiMail
has the ability to distribute the users across multiple hosts. You can have
multiple hosts hosting a domain placed anywhere and tied up by IndiMail.
Indimail has multiple queues (called a queue collection). The system IDs
and configuration files used by IndiMail are all configurable through a set
of environment variables, allowing you to customize IndiMail the way you
want.

Changes: The focus of this release has been to make the installation easy
for novices. There were changes to installation documents, changes to the
script to further automate installation, code to backfill entries in
dir_control, which is needed to generate user_hash, and the creation of an
initial spam database corpus.

[009] - LCD-Linux 0.13.6
  by Mattia Jona (http://freshmeat.net/users/mjona/)
  Sat, Jan 17th 2009 17:22

System :: Hardware

About: LCD-Linux is a Linux software abstraction layer to drive LCD
alphanumeric displays. It features complete VT102 console emulation and
aims to be as general and flexible as possible. It consists of two kernel
modules, lcd-linux and the display driver. Currently, only the Hitachi
HD44780 is supported, but drivers for other LCD controllers can be easily
written.

Changes: This release mainly fixes a bug in the hd44780 driver when
driving displays with more than one controller onboard. In addition, there
are minor optimizations and simplifications in the driver. An incorrect
scroll behavior in the lcd-linux module was also corrected.

[016] - TkResolver++ 0.6.2
  by Bob Ham (http://freshmeat.net/users/node/)
  Sat, Jan 17th 2009 17:48

Scientific/Engineering

About: TkResolver++ is a suite of software for conducting experiments into
psychokinesis (specifically retropsychokinesis.) It uses the output from a
random number generator to determine the course of a line as it is drawn
down the computer screen. Experiments consist of an operator who attempts
to influence the behaviour of the line drawing. The software records in a
database the operator's details, the experimental variables, and the
observed results. The suite includes programs for conducting visualisation
and statistical analysis of the database.

Changes: The database is now written to in a separate thread and feedback
is presented to the user. A bug causing bad random number generation was
fixed for control experiment runs. A race condition in randomness
retrievers was fixed. An "out of randomness" error during deterministic
randomness retrieval was fixed.

daemon that has support for scheduling downloads and updating databases.

Changes: Postgresql is supported. Multiple servers are supported. Install
scripts were added. The browse page interface was improved. Speed while
generating sets was improved. Performance in Internet Explorer was
improved. All icons were remade at the size of 16x16. Multi-user support
was improved with per-user folders. A lot of bugs were fixed.

Games/Entertainment
Games/Entertainment :: Arcade
Games/Entertainment :: First Person Shooters

About: Vendetta Online is a multi-platform 3D space-combat MMO for
Windows, Mac, Linux/32 and Linux/64. The game permits players to interact
in a vast online galaxy; fighting, trading, and mining their way to
success. A "twitch" type real-time combat model makes true player skill the
deciding factor instead of character advancement. Massive capital-ship
battles shake the foundations of the major nations at war, while others
struggle to push back the encroachment of the AI "Hives". A no-strings free
trial is available.

Changes: The Jettison menu now shows the best price for each item in the
current system and the station at it's located. It updates once per minute
and whenever you enter a sector or launch from a station. 3D rendering
distance has been reduced to 20km from 60km to speed up rendering of large
sectors. Additional voice chat connection information is printed to the
console. Corvus stations now show correct license requirements for ships.
Many other minor bugs were fixed.

  Sat, Jan 17th 2009 17:49

System :: Software Distribution
System :: Software Distribution Tools

About: Wine-doors is an application designed to make installing Windows
software on Linux, Solaris, or other Unix systems easier. It is essentially
a package management tool for Windows software on Unix systems. It is
developed and styled to fit in with the GNOME desktop, but is fairly
portable and a user interface could be developed for KDE. The main goals
are to replace winetools, allow flexible application management, provide
Queue processing capabilities, provide Application Database integration,
avoid global native overrides, automatically add items to the desktop
menus, and allow users to manage their Windows applications with profiles
and bottles.

Changes: Preliminary support for OpenSolaris was added. Networking was
improved so that NetworkManager is no longer used and proxy support is
better. Support for setting the Wine theme to match GTK was added. Fixes
were made to many packages. Many new packages were added.
