[001] - .NET Calendar Control 1.1-1-08
  by Kasreyn (http://freshmeat.net/users/Kasreyn/)
  Thu, Jan 22nd 2009 14:50

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation

About: .NET Calendar Control is a control similar to
Windows.Forms.MonthCalendar, but it adds support for multi-select. It
provides a point and click interface for selecting holidays or special
days. It previously extended MonthCalendar, but now it has a fixed size in
all regions and handles all drawing internally. The assembly contains
several small controls for building calendar interfaces. These parts are
independent of each other, and are constructed with inheritance in mind.

Changes: The public events YearNext and YearPrevious were added for both
CalendarViewerControl and YearCalendarControl. For inherited controls, the
virtual OnYear*Click (YearCalendarControl) and OnYear*
(CalendarViewerControl) should be used. These methods can be overriden.

Software Development :: Testing

About: Ahven is a simple unit test library for the Ada 95 programming
language. It is loosely modeled after JUnit, and some ideas are taken from
AUnit.

Changes: This release introduces Test Anything Protocol (TAP) reporter, a
new API for stack-based test cases, and improved Janus/Ada support. Some
API changes were made, but they should affect only those who have extended
the framework.

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Ripping
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Writing
System :: Archiving

About: cdrtools (formerly cdrecord) creates home-burned CDs/DVDs with a
CDR/CDRW/DVD recorder. It works as a burn engine for several applications.
It supports CD/DVD recorders from many different vendors; all SCSI-3/mmc-
and ATAPI/mmc-compliant drives should also work. Supported features include
IDE/ATAPI, parallel port, and SCSI drives, audio CDs, data CDs, and mixed
CDs, full multi-session support, CDRWs (rewritable), DVD-R/-RW, DVD+R/+RW,
TAO, DAO, RAW, and human-readable error messages. cdrtools includes remote
SCSI support and can access local or remote CD/DVD writers.

Changes: Fewer compilation warnings are shown with GCC, HP-UX cc, and Mac
OS X cc. cdrecord now has a workaround for a TSST DVD+RW firmware bug. A
bug in cdrecord introduced wifh DVD multi-border 18 months ago that
prevented CD multi session in SAO mode was fixed. Readcd no longer dumps
core when the target FS is full. Mkisofs now fully supports the "ST" Rock
Ridge signature. A workaround has been added for a bug in gmake < 3.81.

About: DynaStop is a utility to examine IPv4 based addresses for Exim and
procmail for the purpose of filtering based upon patterns defined by the
administrator. This can be a pivotal factor in email filtering and server
load management, since dynamic IP addresses are typically used for dial-up,
DHCP, and DSL accounts. All of which have a designated mail exchange server
through which all outbound mail flows as defined with many, if not most,
large Internet service providers.

Changes: BleedingThreats, DropList, VirusList, and UnsubList example
config files were updated.

Software Development :: Libraries :: Perl Modules
System :: Filesystems

About: File-Find-Object provides Perl programmers with an object-oriented
alternative to the core File::Find module for traversing a directory
structure, which has some serious interface limitations. It can be
instantiated, can be interrupted in the middle, has an iterative interface,
and can also return result objects.

Changes: Many speed improvements were made. The nocrossfs option has been
been fixed, and symbolic links are now properly stat()'ed. Behavior on
Windows has been fixed.

  Thu, Jan 22nd 2009 14:48

System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Filesystems
System :: Recovery Tools

About: fsarchiver is a system tool that allows you to save the contents of
a filesystem to a compressed archive file. The filesystem can be restored
on a partition that has a different size, and it can be restored on a
different filesystem. Unlike tar/dar, fsarchiver also creates the
filesystem when it extracts the data to partitions. Everything is
checksummed in the archive in order to protect the data. If the archive is
corrupt, you just lose the current file, not the whole archive.

Changes: A buffer overflow that caused a crash was fixed. A problem that
truncated the external commands executed was fixed. Checks were added for
header files in ./configure to make sure the program won't fail to compile
when xattr.h is not installed. A workaround was added for a bug in tune2fs
on ext4, which is used by fsarchiver. Support was added for lzo compression
(a very fast algorithm).

  Thu, Jan 22nd 2009 21:30

Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Filters

About: GLD-fork is a fork of the GLD program by Salim Gasmi. The fork has
been made because the original project has been dead for many years, and
some new featured were needed. GLD-fork, as with the original GLD, adds
greylisting functionality to the Postfix mail server. Greylisting is a
fairly resource friendly anti-spam technique. GLD-fork can easily be
combined with other (more resource consuming) tools to build anti-spam
protection.

Changes: This release adds SQLite3 support, shortwhite, and nogreykey
features to GLD.

[025] - Paperkey 1.0
  by David Shaw (http://freshmeat.net/users/davidshaw/)
  Thu, Jan 22nd 2009 14:51

Security :: Cryptography

About: A reasonable way to achieve a long term backup of OpenPGP (GnuPG,
PGP, etc) keys is to print them out on paper. Due to metadata and
redundancy, OpenPGP secret keys are significantly larger than just the
"secret bits". In fact, the secret key contains a complete copy of the
public key. Since the public key generally doesn't need to be backed up in
this way (most people have many copies of it on various keyservers, Web
pages, etc), only extracting the secret parts can be a real advantage.
Paperkey extracts just those secret bytes and prints them. To reconstruct,
you re-enter those bytes (whether by hand or via OCR), and paperkey can use
them to transform your existing public key into a secret key.

Changes: Minor documentation and build changes were made. The program can
now be cross compiled for Win32. A gnulib refresh was done.

Dependency Injection (CDI) Inversion of Control (IoC) Java components.
There are implementations for Java, .NET, Ruby, and PHP. Simple components
for PicoContainer do not have to extend, implement, or throw anything. They
also do not ship with XML declarations.

Changes: Paranamer and Nullable Annotation were updated for use with
ReflectionMethodinjection. New Guarding behavior is used. Minor changes
were made in ComponentMonitor.

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio

About: Poddy Home is a multimedia application that can replace your CD

storing them on your computer. It gives you easy, fast, and intuitive
access to your media collection without the need to search for the disc
itself.

Changes: This is the first non-beta release. Several bugs in the
management and usage of CDs were fixed. Tracks in an album are now played
without gaps. The storage structure of DVD movies was modified to give an
easier overview when many DVDs are stored.

[032] - Remote HellaNZB GUI 0.9.3
  by NothernLights (http://freshmeat.net/users/NorthernLights/)
  Thu, Jan 22nd 2009 15:01

Communications :: Usenet News

About: Remote HellaNZB GUI is a small GTK+ application to control your
HellaNZB daemon. It's well integrated into your desktop. In a few clicks,
you can manage your remote (or local) queue: add NZB files from your
computer or from their newzbin.com ID, set priorities, see the progress of
your downloads, etc. Unlike other similar projects, this one can truly add
NZB files from your computer to your remote daemon; to do so, it copies
them through SSH. For Remote HellaNZB GUI to work you need a running
HellaNZB daemon; it does not configure it for you.

Changes: Bugs were fixed. Internationalization was implemented, but only a
French translation is done currently.

Software Development :: Widget Sets

About: SPTK (Simply Powerful Toolkit) is a cross-platform toolkit that
provides a set of C++ classes for fast and easy application development. It
provides GUI components that use FLTK, and features database support with
seamless connection to GUI components. There are drivers for use of SQLite
and PostgreSQL directly, as well as support for other database engines
through UnixODBC. SPTK includes many classes for working with strings,
dynamic arrays, and maps, and is faster and has a smaller footprint than
STL. It also supports reading, writing, and creating Excel 7 files,
high-level GUI components with dataset support, support for automatic
layouts, and support for Aspell.

Changes: The embedded libtar code has been embedded into the SPTK
namespace. This allows it to avoid linker problems on some platforms.
Several linkage problems on Linux and Solaris have been fixed.

Communications
Internet
Internet :: Proxy Servers

About: Tor is a network of virtual tunnels that allows people and groups
to improve their privacy and security on the Internet. It also enables
software developers to create new communication tools with built-in
privacy features. It provides the foundation for a range of applications
that allow organizations and individuals to share information over public
networks without compromising their privacy. Individuals can use it to
keep remote Websites from tracking them and their family members. They can
also use it to connect to resources such as news sites or instant
messaging services that are blocked by their local Internet service
providers (ISPs).

Changes: This release fixes a variety of bugs that were making relays less
useful to users. It also finally fixes a bug where a relay or client that's
been off for many days would take a long time to bootstrap. It fixes an
important security-related bug.
