[001] - beltane 2.3.9 (2.x)
  by rainer (http://freshmeat.net/users/rainer/)
  Thu, Jan 29th 2009 22:23

Security

About: Beltane is a Web-based central management console for the samhain
file integrity system. If samhain is used in a client/server setup, beltane
enables the administrator to browse client reports, acknowledge them, and
update file signature databases stored centrally on the log server.

Changes: This release supports the on-demand scan feature available since
Samhain 2.5.1, allows for hostnames containing an underscore, and fixes
some compiler warnings and build problems.

[002] - Big Faceless Report Generator 1.1.41 (Stable)
  by BFO (Big Faceless Organization)
(http://freshmeat.net/users/faceless/)
  Thu, Jan 29th 2009 01:38

Documentation
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: The Big Faceless Report Generator is a Java application for
converting source documents written in XML to PDF. Built on top of the Big
Faceless PDF & Graph Libraries, the Report Generator combines these
features and wraps an XML parser around them. Using JSP, ASP, XSL, or
similar, creating dynamic PDF documents directly from a database is now as
easy as HTML.

Changes: This release adds "aes256" as an encryption algorithm, to use the
new AES-256 encryption added in the PDF library 2.11.

[003] - Blitz templates for PHP 0.6.7
  by Alexey Rybak (http://freshmeat.net/users/alexeyrybak/)
  Thu, Jan 29th 2009 17:32

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: Blitz templates is a fast PHP template engine written in C and
compiled as a PHP extension. It started as a php_templates replacement, but
developed into much more. It is based on extensible template controllers
(custom view classes in PHP) and weakly-active templates (simple logic in
HTML). Benchmarks show that it is one of the fastest template engines for
PHP, even though it's not trivial and makes Web application closer to a
smart MVC-like architecture model with maximal separation of HTML from your
code. It was designed for big high-load Internet projects with a lot of
complex presentation logic.

Changes: Infinite include loops checking was added and corresponding
segfaults were fixed. Automatic path extension with the global variable
"blitz.path" was fixed on Windows-like systems. Block() affects contexts
hidden by IF/UNLESS contexts. getStruct() returns IF/UNLESS contexts
correctly. The internal method unless() was added as an opposite to if().

[006] - deco file extraction framework 1.6.0.1
  by P. Hartlich (http://freshmeat.net/users/phartlich/)
  Thu, Jan 29th 2009 17:30

System :: Archiving

About: deco is a command-line program that, together with the deco-archive
package, allows you to extract dozens of popular archive file formats. It
has a consistent interface ("deco 1.tar.bz2 2.rar 3.zip 4.flac 5.deb") and
consistent behavior (never deleting archives after extraction and
extracting relative to the current working directory, just verbosely
enough, all unless explicitly requested otherwise). It creates an
extraction directory if there is more than one file or directory at the
archive top level, and it is able to fix strange permissions.

Changes: The build system has been updated for BSD users having trouble
compiling deco.

[007] - depfinder 0.4
  by George Vlahavas (http://freshmeat.net/users/gapan/)
  Thu, Jan 29th 2009 22:53

Software Development :: Build Tools
Utilities

About: depfinder finds the dependencies of Zenwalk/Slackware packages and
outputs them in a comma separated list, as used in Zenwalk. The dependency
list can be output to stdout or to a .dep text file. depfinder is very
fast; its speed is mainly due to the C++ code that is used in depfinder to
find in which package each individual library is included. It also has
support for running multiple jobs, which makes it a lot faster when used
with multiple CPUs/cores. depfinder only uses ldd to look for dependencies,
so it won't detect dependencies for any kind of scripts (bash, Python,
etc.).

Changes: depfinder can now use a directory with the package structure
directly. When a package dependency is not installed, a proper error
message is shown. depfinder can now be run as a non-privileged user.
Support has been added for the ADD and EXCLUDE environment variables for
explicitly adding or excluding dependencies respectively.

[008] - dim versioning tool 0.5.1
  by Marc Vertes (http://freshmeat.net/users/mvertes/)
  Thu, Jan 29th 2009 10:17

Software Development :: Version Control
Utilities

About: Dim is a utility to help you track the changes of items (sets
composed of multiple files). It provides commands to handle the complete
lifecycle of version control operations: create a library, register users
(code authors), create items, save local versions, branch, clone, export,
import, remove, merge, archive, replicate library content over the network
or the filesystem, and access the full history and browse differences at
the library, item, file, line, or word level. Dim is a single
self-documented POSIX shell script. It just uses standard Unix utilities
like awk, diff, tar, and openssl.

Changes: Jobs were introduced. The mklib command was replaced by mkjob.
Exported versions are now signed with the committer RSA key, and can be
verified by all users. The ability to remove and re-import versions while
keeping a consistent and correct ancestor tree was improved. Dim has been
ported to OpenSolaris and AIX. Many bugs in network transfer, merge, and
metadata management were fixed.

  Thu, Jan 29th 2009 10:17

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: Echo3 is a framework for developing rich Web applications. From the
developer's perspective, Echo3 behaves as a user interface toolkit, like
Swing or Eclipse SWT. AJAX technology is employed to deliver a user
experience to Web clients that approaches that of desktop-based
applications. Echo3 applications can be created in either client-side
JavaScript or server-side Java code using a component-oriented and
event-driven API.

Changes: This release focuses on fixing issues in preparation for the
first release candidate. API specifications are now available for all of
the client-side JavaScript as well as server-side Java APIs. JSLint'ing of
JavaScript code was added to the build process.

[013] - fsarchiver 0.3.7
  by François Dupoux (http://freshmeat.net/users/fdupoux/)
  Thu, Jan 29th 2009 14:04

System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Filesystems
System :: Recovery Tools

About: fsarchiver is a system tool that allows you to save the contents of
a filesystem to a compressed archive file. The filesystem can be restored
on a partition that has a different size, and it can be restored on a
different filesystem. Unlike tar/dar, fsarchiver also creates the
filesystem when it extracts the data to partitions. Everything is
checksummed in the archive in order to protect the data. If the archive is
corrupt, you just lose the current file, not the whole archive.

Changes: More flexibility was introduced in the compression levels to
allow more choices: there are now 9 compression levels. Support was added
for encryption using openssl and blowfish to encrypt the archive with a
password. The way an archive is read when we don't want to restore all of
its file systems was optimized. The help screen now shows which optional
features have been enabled at compilation time. Other internal changes were
made, which are not visible to users.

  Thu, Jan 29th 2009 17:34

Communications :: Telephony
Office/Business
Security

About: GNU SIP Witch is a pure SIP-based office telephone call server that
supports generic phone system features like call forwarding, hunt groups
and call distribution, call coverage and ring groups, holding, and call
transfer, as well as offering SIP specific capabilities such as presence
and messaging. It supports secure telephone extensions for making calls

extensions. It is not a SIP proxy, a multi-protocol telephone server, or an
IP-PBX, and does not try to emulate Asterisk, FreeSWITCH, or Yate.

Changes: SWIG-based interfaces have been introduced to enable creation of
Web services and administration scripts in Python and PHP that interact
with a locally running instance of the GNU SIP Witch daemon. This release
also introduced separate periodic call statistics management and service
provider registration management for the subscriber plugin module.

[018] - LanguageTool 0.9.6
  by Daniel Naber (http://freshmeat.net/users/dnaber/)
  Thu, Jan 29th 2009 22:44

About: LanguageTool is a style and grammar checker that currently supports
English, Polish, German, French, Dutch, and other languages to a different
degree. It scans the words and their part-of-speech tags for occurrences of
error patterns, which are defined in an XML file. More powerful error rules
can be written in Java. LanguageTool should be used after the spelling of a
text has been corrected.

Changes: Support for the new Proofreading API in OpenOffice 3.0.1 has been
added. There are new features in the rule disambiguator, such as
unification, filtering, deleting, and adding interpretations. Several rules
have been fixed or improved. This version only works with OpenOffice 3.0.1,
not with 3.0.0. Also, any previously installed release of LanguageTool must
be de-installed from OpenOffice.org before upgrading OpenOffice.org.

[022] - mumpot 0.4
  by Andreas Kemnade (http://freshmeat.net/users/akemnade/)
  Thu, Jan 29th 2009 21:54

Scientific/Engineering :: Geographical

About: mumpot is an application for viewing, simple editing, and routing
of OpenStreetMap data. It loads the tileshome and mapnik tiles, can print
the maps at some fixed scales, and has some tools for route planning.
Without OSM vector data, lines can be drawn onto the map; with vector data,
real shortest paths searches can be done. The route can also be calculated
from the current position. OSM vector data can be loaded to do routing and
editing tags. Some live editing is possible under good GPS conditions.

Changes: POIs can now be added during mapping with a configurable preset
dialog. There is also non-live editing now, so objects can be moved and
deleted, and new ways can be added manually. The routing algorithm is more
optimized. gpsd compability is improved. To get rid of third mouse button
dependence, mouse gestures are added for route editing. Cached tiles are
not overwritten anymore if the size is insane. There is now a simple map
selection dialog if no configuration file is given.

handle very large email address lists. Users can sign up to multiple lists,
but will only receive a single copy of cross-posted messages. When signing
up, users can identify their geographical location, and messages can be
targetted to these. You can add place holders in your email that will be
replaced with personal details (such as the person's name). Users can
update their own information, and unlike many other mailing list systems,
they can change their email address. HTML emails are supported.

Changes: This release fixes a local file include vulnerability that was
reported. It is highly recommended to upgrade from any previous version to
this one.

About: Pinot is a D-Bus service that crawls, indexes your documents, and
monitors them for changes. It is also a GTK-based user interface that
enables you to query the index built by the service or your favorite Web
engine, and display and analyze the results. It makes full use of advanced
indexing and search facilities offered by Xapian, features language
detection, dynamic document summaries, easy labelling of documents, and
internal support for common file types. The D-Bus interface allows easy
integration with other applications.

Changes: A lot of changes and improvements were made to Unicode support,
portability, Web metasearch, command-line and desktop integration, and
more. The UI is more coherent and less invasive. The daemon is smarter.

[031] - pyPEG 0.24
  by Volker Birk (http://freshmeat.net/users/fdik/)
  Thu, Jan 29th 2009 14:04

Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers

About: pyPEG is a quick and easy solution for creating a parser in Python
programs. pyPEG uses a PEG language in Python data structures to parse, so
it can be used dynamically to parse nearly every context free language. The
output is a plain Python data structure called pyAST.

Changes: pyPEG now optionally generates the positions of the parsed
symbols in the source text into the generated pyAST, so you can, for
example, have line numbers in warnings and errors in your backend in
addition to the line numbers of syntax errors that pyPEG creates.

[032] - Random Thoughts On Distributed Algorithms 0.0.3
  by David Beck (http://freshmeat.net/users/dbeck/)
  Thu, Jan 29th 2009 23:24

Security
Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Networking

About: Random Thoughts On Distributed Algorithms (rt0d4) is a collection
of tools and helpers for creating distributed applications.

Changes: The source now builds on Windows. The RT0D4/Rx interface has been
sanitized to provide a means for attaching connection-related info to the
connection. This is treated as opaque data. It can be created and destroyed
by callbacks or direct calls. This is documented in the rt0d4_rx.h header
and the doxygen documentation.

[033] - rsyslog 4.1.4 (Development)
  by Rainer Gerhards (http://freshmeat.net/users/rgerhards/)
  Thu, Jan 29th 2009 17:31

System :: Logging

About: Rsyslog is an enhanced multi-threaded syslogd. Among others, it
offers support for on-demand disk buffering, reliable syslog over TCP, SSL,
TLS, and RELP, writing to databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, and many
more), email alerting, fully configurable output formats (including
high-precision timestamps), the ability to filter on any part of the syslog
message, on-the-wire message compression, and the ability to convert text
files to syslog. It is a drop-in replacement for stock syslogd and able to
work with the same configuration file syntax.

Changes: This is primarily a stability update. Most importantly, this
version addresses a potential segfault that occurred rather infrequently,
and primarily on very fast and busy systems. The only other change is a fix
for the $PreserveFQDN config directive, which did not properly affect
locally emitted messages. This is a recommended update for all users of the
development branch.

[034] - samhain 2.5.2
  by rainer (http://freshmeat.net/users/rainer/)
  Thu, Jan 29th 2009 22:13

Security

About: samhain is a daemon that can check file integrity, search the file
tree for SUID files, and detect kernel module rootkits (Linux only). It can
be used either standalone or as a client/server system for centralized
monitoring, with strong (192-bit AES) encryption for client/server
connections and the option to store databases and configuration files on
the server. For tamper resistance, it supports signed
database/configuration files and signed reports/audit logs. It has been
tested on Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, and Unixware.

Changes: This release provides a new option to avoid reports for timestamp
changes on directories. For open ports, PID is determined now, and
reporting of open ports to prelude has been improved. A bug has been fixed
that could cause truncation of the reported file size upon entering into an
RDBMS, and some build problems have been fixed.

[035] - Shell In A Box 2.3
  by Markus Gutschke (http://freshmeat.net/users/gutschke/)
  Thu, Jan 29th 2009 21:56

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
System :: Networking :: Firewalls
Terminals

About: Shell In A Box implements a Web server that can export arbitrary
command line tools to a Web-based terminal emulator. This emulator is
accessible to any JavaScript and CSS enabled Web browser, and does not
require any additional browser plugins. Most typically, login shells would
be exported this way: "shellinaboxd -s /:LOGIN". This starts a Web server
at http://localhost:4200 that allows users to log in with their username
and password and to get access to their login shell. The connection will be
encrypted if SSL/TLS certificates are available.

Changes: This is a full rewrite of the original ShellInABox code. Instead
of requiring a Java applet, ShellInABox now works with any
Javascript/CSS-enabled browser.

[039] - The LibMsgque Project 2.6
  by Andreas Otto (http://freshmeat.net/users/aotto1968/)
  Thu, Jan 29th 2009 10:15

Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
System :: Networking
System :: Shells

About: The LibMsgque Project is an infrastructure for linking applications
together to act like a single application. Work is distributed from one
application to another using network or local sockets. The framework
handles all aspects of setting up and maintaining the link in addition to
starting and stopping the different applications, starting and stopping the
communication interface, sending and receiving packages, reading and
writing data from or into packages, setting up and maintaining the event
handling for asynchronous transfers, and propagating warnings or errors.

Changes: A new "atool" tool that supersedes the "aplit", "ajoin", "acut",
and "asort" tools was included. The default value for checking the
connection between "server" and "client" was changed to 1h. A new
"--srvname" option was added to the client startup options to prefix all
log and error messages with a client-specific identifier. New options were
added to the "client" performance measurement tool: "--transaction-perf",
"--parent-perf", and "--child-perf". A crash bug in application cleanup
within tclmsgque was fixed along with a bug where events were not cleaned
up under high load.
