[001] - AgileWiki 12.3.0 (Element Model)
  by Bill la Forge (http://freshmeat.net/users/laforge49/)
  Fri, Jan 30th 2009 12:24

Database
Documentation
Information Management

About: AgileWiki is an SDK for assembling software systems which are
fluid, easily configured and can be reorganized on-the-fly to meet ever
changing requirements. It includes a COW-based database, the Rolonics
programming paradigm, and semantic inferencing.

Changes: UserGroups were implemented in the new AccessControl plugin.
Relations were redone to support meta-relations. WPlugin now also supports
war files and static pages.

[002] - Back In Time 0.9.4
  by Dan (http://freshmeat.net/users/danleweb/)
  Fri, Jan 30th 2009 14:19

System :: Archiving :: Backup
Utilities

About: Back In Time is a simple backup system for Linux (Gnome & KDE4)
inspired by the "flyback project" and "TimeVault". The backup is done by
taking snapshots of a specified set of directories. All you have to do is
configure: where to save snapshot, what directories to backup, and when a
backup should be done (manually, every hour, every day, every week, or
every month). It acts as a "user mode" backup system. This means that you
can backup and restore only folders to which you have write access.

Changes: This release updates the German translation, adds better handling
of the "take snapshot" status icon, adds a first KDE4 version (not
finished), and updates the man page.

[005] - CGAL 3.4
  by Sylvain Pion (http://freshmeat.net/users/sylvainpion/)
  Fri, Jan 30th 2009 13:59

Scientific/Engineering :: Bioinformatics
Scientific/Engineering :: Geographical
Scientific/Engineering :: Image Recognition

About: CGAL, the Computational Geometry Algorithms Library, is a large C++
library of geometric data structures and algorithms such as Delaunay
triangulations, mesh generation, Boolean operations on polygons, and
various geometry processing algorithms. CGAL is used in various areas:
computer graphics, scientific visualization, computer aided design and
modeling, geographic information systems, molecular biology, medical
imaging, robotics and motion planning, and numerical methods.

Changes: An important change from CGAL 3.3 to 3.4 is the switch to CMake
for the installation. Besides improvements to existing packages, this
release offers the following new algorithms and data structures: Polynomial
(provides multi-variate polynomials), Modular Arithmetic (provides
arithmetic over finite fields), 3D Spherical Geometry Kernel (provides
functionalities on spheres, circles, circular arcs, and line segments in
3D), CGAL and the Qt4 GraphicsView (many 2D objects can be rendered in a
QGraphicsView).

[006] - connect proxy tunnel 1.3
  by macaronyde (http://freshmeat.net/users/macaronyde/)
  Fri, Jan 30th 2009 14:27

Communications
Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: cpt aims to be running in front of any HTTPS server. It forwards
all requests that don't call for a "CONNECT .." to the normal HTTPS server.
There is no error handling for mistaken requests; they go straight to the
default server. A request that doesn't pass the conditions is passed
forward too, and the Web server will handle it (with the default error
page). Users should be unaware that cpt is running as a proxy.

Changes: This release adds code cleanups and minor bugfixes for misbuild
requests, and integration of the stunnel configuration sample and startup
with stunnel.

Information Management :: Document Repositories
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: Wiki
Software Development :: Documentation

About: DokuWiki is a standards-compliant, simple-to-use Wiki mainly aimed
at creating documentation of any kind. It is targeted at developer teams,
workgroups, and small companies. It has a simple but powerful syntax which
makes sure the datafiles remain readable outside the Wiki, and eases the
creation of structured texts. All data is stored in plain text files, so no
database is needed

Changes: This RC reverts the mechanism for disabling plugins back to the
old method to avoid problems with distribution packaging. It also fixes
problems related to the login/logoff procedure.

  Fri, Jan 30th 2009 11:40

Information Management
Security

About: dradis is a tool for sharing information during security
assessments. It provides a centralized repository of information to keep
track of what has been done so far, and what is still ahead.

Changes: REST is now used instead of SOAP. In the server component, Nodes
are used instead of Hosts, Services, and Protocols. The server now uses
Rails 2.0 and ExtJS 2.2, and SSL transport and authentication are
supported. The wxWidgets client was adapted to the new node-note structure
of the server. The "modules" component of the client was refactored and is
now called "extensions". John's string encoding extension is built in to
the dradis client. The first building blocks of the service-oriented
multiverse architecture were set into place.

  Fri, Jan 30th 2009 14:20

System :: Archiving
System :: Systems Administration

About: Exbase is a backup system which aims to replace hand-written backup
scripts. Instead of writing backup scripts for each kind of system, Exbase
adopts this task by working as some kind of middleware between the backup
source and its targets. Exbase is configured using an XML configuration
file. Exbase works by fetching data from the source(s) and delivering it to
the target(s). Sources and targets may take a wide variety of forms.

Changes: This release adds a text mode GUI editor and incremental support
for the DAR archiver.

[016] - Haskell Database Connectivity 2.0.0
  by John Goerzen (http://freshmeat.net/users/jgoerzen/)
  Fri, Jan 30th 2009 22:03

Database :: API
Software Development :: Libraries

About: HDBC provides an abstraction layer between Haskell programs and SQL
relational databases. This lets you write database code once, in Haskell,
and have it work with any number of backend SQL databases (MySQL, Oracle,
PostgreSQL, ODBC-compliant databases, etc.) HDBC is modeled loosely on
Perl's DBI interface, though it has also been influenced by Python's DB-API
v2, JDBC in Java, and HSQL in Haskell.

Changes: This release adds support for Unicode, GHC 6.10, new exceptions,
and Data.Time. It includes type marshalling, a convertible typeclass for
fromSql/toSql, and a new test suite.

way. Every employee can access this information easily (and in a selective
way) through a Web browser. Due to its modular architecture, it is possible
to deploy functionality add-ons or even develop extensions.

Changes: Having the same SYS-ID for multiple objects is no longer
possible. A config constant in src/constants.inc.php was added. The logbook
description of failed overview savings now shows error information about
which category had problems. A quicklaunch menu was added in the welcome
screen. Object browser refreshing was changed to load with AJAX.

  Fri, Jan 30th 2009 18:37

Software Development :: Quality Assurance
Software Development :: Testing
Software Development :: Testing :: Traffic Generation

About: LANforge is a unified multi-protocol network traffic generation and
WAN emulation application. It allows users to generate real world customer
traffic in a controllable manner. The WAN emulator allows the injection of
latency and other network oddities like dropped, duplicated, and re-ordered
packets. LANforge includes a drag-and-drop virtual network builder that
supports virtual routers, WAN links, traffic-generating nodes, and more. It
provides a scriptable command line interface with Perl libraries as well as
a graphical user interface.

Changes: LANforge now supports the IPv6 protocol. The Windows build more
closely matches the feature set of Linux, and Solaris x86 and SPARC are
supported as well. The graphical network builder supports virtual routers,
including OSPF and subnet routing for IPv4 and IPv6, network impairments,
traffic-generating nodes, and more. The GUI and other components have been
improved to scale past 4000 concurrent connections on modern hardware. The
network emulator and traffic generator support 10G networks.

  Fri, Jan 30th 2009 14:00

About: Mount-gtk is a front end for pmount. It provides a means of
mounting devices with pmount through a graphical interface. It is intended
for use whenever automounting facilities are not desired or are not
effective. It is built as a single-instance program: if the user attempts
to start it when another instance of it is already running, the existing
instance will be brought up on the current desktop. It will therefore not
usually be necessary to mark it as displayable on all desktops.

Changes: This release corrects the mounting of a device in /media so that
it is mounted with its label name rather than its device name.

it, so it is safe to use on modules with side effects. It's also much
faster.

Changes: This release improves error reporting. Syntax errors now include
more detail. Multi-line syntax errors no longer produce unreasonably large
amounts of output. Nonexistent files are now handled with a warning instead
of an error. This release also improves support for new language constructs
introduced in Python 2.4 and 2.5. It improves reporting of certain errors.
Some kinds of import shadowing are now reported, and unbound locals that
collide with global names are now reported properly.

[034] - Task Coach 0.72.0
  by Frank Niessink (http://freshmeat.net/users/fniessink/)
  Fri, Jan 30th 2009 12:15

Office/Business

About: Task Coach is a simple todo manager to manage personal tasks and
todo lists. It grew out of a frustration that well-known task managers,
such as those provided with Outlook or Lotus Notes, do not provide
facilities for composite tasks. Often, tasks and other things to do consist
of several activities. Task Coach is designed to deal with composite tasks.

Changes: This release adds a square map task viewer and a single-task
effort viewer. This release also fixes a few bugs and adds a few smaller
feature enhancements.

Office/Business :: Financial :: Investment
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
Scientific/Engineering :: Neuroscience

About: Trad4 is a fully concurrent, thread safe, graph based programming
language that scales linearly on multiple cores. It is initially intended
for deployment in the financial industry to model real-time risk. It is a
new way of arranging programs in memory and a new style of flow-of-control.

Changes: Trad4 has been used to build a concurrent model of the 1D heat
equation.This model used the centred difference method, where each node is
run by a different thread. This approach will scale for 2D, 3D, or nD
models of the heat, wave and convection-diffusion equations, all of which
are coming soon.

administrators quickly get reports and health status information from their
TSM servers. It generates its content dynamically so one can easily add or
modify queries to adapt the application to one’s own needs. It features
customizable queries, a dynamically generated navigation menu, an overview
page with traffic light logic, graphical timetable charts for queries with
start and end time (like backups and schedules), multiple servers, login
protection (authentication against a default TSM server), and result
caching for better performance.

Changes: Configuration files are written in XML. The navigation menu can
easily be customized. User authentication against a TSM server to control
access to the TSM monitor. Queries and their results can be cached to
improve performance. Queries can be edited online in your browser. Changes

[038] - VideoCache 1.8
  by Kulbir Saini (http://freshmeat.net/users/kulbirsaini/)
  Fri, Jan 30th 2009 21:53

Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Multimedia :: Video

About: VideoCache is a squid URL rewriter plugin written in Python that
traps the requests to Squid for various audio/video Web sites and caches
the audio/video in the local storage on a proxy server for serving
subsequent requests for the same audio/video. It caches the audio/video
independently of Squid's caching system. The cached files are stored in a
browsable fashion.

Changes: Code cleanup on a large scale. Improved assigment for Web
site-specific global variables. Daemon forking has been moved from the
XML-RPC server to the client, as it would result in fewer occupied sockets.
The total number of queries to the XML-RPC server has been reduced in order
to get rid of TIME_WAIT sockets. Major cleanup in the cache_video and
squid_part functions.

About: Videoporama (formerly known as Images2dvgui) is an application to
make a video images slideshow. The supported export formats are DV (Raw
dv, Raw.dif, AVI Type 1, and AVI Type 2) and MPEG (VCD, SVCD, XVCD, and
DVD). It's possible to add sound. It's possible to add transitions between
images, and the transition type can be defined for each image.

Changes: The Ken Burns effect was added. The interface was improved and
resized. New export formats were added: FLV and H264 AVC. New resolutions
are possible for exporting: Web (384x288), PAL/SECAM (720x576), NTSC
(720x480), HD 720 (1280x720), and HD 1080 (1920x1080). FFmpeg is used to
encode images to video format, so libDV and DVgrab are no longer needed.
PIL is used instead of ImageMagick for transitions and image manipulation.
The encoding process is much faster. The Windows version is in beta status.
Bugfixes and lots of code improvements were done.

[042] - Zoom Profiler 1.3.1
  by RotateRight (http://freshmeat.net/users/rotateright/)
  Fri, Jan 30th 2009 21:34

Software Development
Software Development :: Quality Assurance
System :: Benchmark

About: Zoom is a low-overhead graphical and command line profiler for
Linux. A Zoom profile is system-wide, precise down to the instruction
level, and captures backtraces. This lets you see exactly what was running,
where time was spent, and how that code was called. Drill down into
critical code to get detailed performance data. Zoom analyzes and annotates
your code with specific tuning advice for many compilers and processors.
Share what you find with colleagues or archive it for later review. Zoom
saves profiles as a single, self-contained session file that can be emailed
or attached to bug reports. It also supports remote network profiling and
scripting.

Changes: This release fixes a potential crash when the kernel module
cannot be found. x86 processor instruction timing information has been
improved.
