Red Hat, Inc. Red Hat Security Advisory

    Synopsis: Updated openssh packages available
    Advisory ID: RHSA-2001:041-02
    Issue date: 2001-03-30
    Updated on: 2001-04-02
    Product: Red Hat Linux
    Keywords: openssh daemon restart limits
    Cross references:
    Obsoletes: RHSA-2001:033
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

    1. Topic:

Updated openssh packages are now available for Red Hat Linux 7. These
packages fix an error in the supplied init script and PAM configuration
    file.

    2. Relevant releases/architectures:

    Red Hat Linux 7.0 - alpha, i386

    3. Problem description:

The init script supplied with a previous openssh update used the daemon()
shell function to start the sshd daemon. This function will not start the
server if a process of the same name is already executing. As a result,
attempts to start the sshd server will always fail if any users are logged
    in remotely.

The PAM configuration file included in the previous update did not include
a reference to the pam_limits module, which enforces user resource limits.

    4. Solution:

To update all RPMs for your particular architecture, run:

    rpm -Fvh [filenames]

where [filenames] is a list of the RPMs you wish to upgrade. Only those
RPMs which are currently installed will be updated. Those RPMs which are
not installed but included in the list will not be updated. Note that you
can also use wildcards (*.rpm) if your current directory *only* contains
    the desired RPMs.

Please note that this update is also available via Red Hat Network. Many
people find this an easier way to apply updates. To use Red Hat Network,
launch the Red Hat Update Agent with the following command:

    up2date

This will start an interactive process that will result in the appropriate
RPMs being upgraded on your system.

    5. Bug IDs fixed (http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla for more info):

    33633 - openssh-2.5.2p2 upgrade kills master sshd, won't restart
