I've always gotten paid based on:
1) What I feel I am worth (i.e. market value + my experiences + knowledge
level)
2) My perceived value to the perspective employer/customer
Not based upon any salary survey.
Having the CISSP after my name has provided for a higher level of perceived
VALUE from my customers/employers.

So how does one gauge their worthiness (amount of money they are worth to
an employer), if the CISSP is not accounted for anywhere in the various
salary guides that are produced by various organizations such as SANS, SAGE
or CSI, etc??
What is the avg starting range for a CISSP with 8 years experience??

Mark,
I can think of several reasons.
1) The results that I was sent do not correlate salary with any
certification whatsoever. Since this survey is primarily geared towards
network administrators, one would expect to see Cisco, Novell and Microsoft
breakouts before CISSP. I don't remember if a certification question was
asked on the survey.
2) This survey was targeted towards technical administrators, though some
management participated. The CISSP is primarily a management certification.
3) (ISC)^2 and SANS do not get along. I do not think this is valid, as every
public indication I've seen from SANS indicates that they are above such
pettiness. If they counted and published GIAC certs and not CISSP's then
this could be believed.
4) There was not enough data points. Even if the CISSP question was asked,
since the target audience was network administrators, there may not have
been enough responses for statistically solid numbers.
