The Stephen Northcutt book is excellent, make sure it is the 2nd Edition.
Well worth the money. I have found any book from O'Reilly is usually a good
    bet.

If you are looking for more than the basics, then I would stay away from
books that were published before 1999. A lot has changed since then, but
the basics haven't so some of them are still relevant.

FWIW, you can hit a site like Amazon and search for the ISBN and read
reviews from people that bought the books. You can get some good info and
    sometimes other recommendations.

It's not secure "Because they told me it was secure". The people at the
other end of the link know less about security than you do. And that's
    scary.

    Hello list,
As new to the security world I looked arround to find good books about
security and I ended with a list that I will paste for you. My question is
if this list books I ended with are good value for my money? Or should I buy
others? Another relevant issue is that its quite expensive to buy these
books and should I start with these? If you know where I can find good free
stuff about security issues where i can learn.
