    Hi,

I took the SSCP exam last year. I'm sure ISC2 won't thank me for saying so,
but the SSCP seems to me to be just a subset of the CISSP exam with a bias
away from processes and procedures and towards more technical aspects.

Were I a more cynical person I would say that the SSCP exam was simply a
means for ISC2 to extract money from professionals with less than three
years experience without damaging the sanctity of the CISSP's reputation.

I think the study guide for CISSP would be very useful in your revision for
both exams, as would William Stallings' Cryptography and Network Security.

As to whether either qualification is of use to your career as compared to
other's certification schemes and as discussed in Jeff Stebelton's email. I
think a certification is only as good as its reputation. If you simply want
to learn then there is no need for the certification at all what you will
learn you will learn, regardless any accompanying piece of paper.

To me ISC2 has a better reputation than SANS for certifications. Whether
that is an accurate representation however I can't say, I suppose the only
way to find out is to ask other security professionals (preferably not on
    this list!).

Has anyone taken the SSCP exam? If so, would you comment on whether or not
the CISSP Prep Guide could be used to prepare one for the SSCP? I have
been in I.T. 4 years now, 3 of them as a System Manager. I was going to
attempt the CISSP later this year but feel that I have not had a solid 3
years experience in security. As a result, I've decided to take the SSCP
first. Unfortunatley, I'm unable to find any study resources specifically
for the SSCP. So, will the CISSP study guides from the relevant domains
properly prepare one for the SSCP? Scott.
